The Cowboys haven't offered Prescott a contract extension, with player and team having a "mutual understanding" of the situation as he enters a contract season, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Prescott had one of his best statistical seasons in 2023, but the Cowboys may be hesitant to commit long term after yet another disappointment in the playoffs. On the other hand, Prescott is scheduled for a $55.46 million cap hit in 2024 even after restructuring with void years, and an extension would allow the Cowboys to significantly lower that number. He'll turn 31 in August, and without a significant addition in the draft, he may play 2024 behind the worst offensive line he's ever had while also working with a diminished supporting cast following the departure of Tony Pollard.

Prescott restructured his contract over the weekend, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
The Cowboys converted a $5 million roster bonus into a signing bonus and added two void years to free up $4 million in 2024 cap space. They can further reduce Prescott's present-year cap hit by either extending him or doing a similar restructure with the $29 million base salary for the final year of his contract. Dallas hasn't done much else through the first week of free agency, despite losing last year's starters at left tackle (Tyron Smith - Jets) and center (Tyler Biadasz - Commanders).

The Cowboys finally put together a strong performance on the road, and Prescott led the way with four red-zone TD strikes, two to CeeDee Lamb and one each to Jalen Tolbert and Brandin Cooks. In the process, Prescott became the first Dallas quarterback to ever lead the NFL in touchdown passes, tossing 36 in 17 games. Prescott showed a significant improvement over last week's dismal performance against the Bills, nearly leading Dallas to victory over one of the AFC's top contenders. While the Cowboys fell short on Miami's last-second field goal, fantasy managers have to be pleased with the return to form from the star quarterback. The stiff tests continue for Prescott with a matchup against the Lions on tap this Saturday. On the bright side, the game will be played at home, where Prescott has completed 74 percent of his passes with a 20:2 TD:INT ratio in seven starts this year.

Prescott turned in an underwhelming performance against the Bills and had only 43 passing yards on 13 attempts at halftime. He used a garbage-time drive late in the fourth quarter to pad his yardage total, but he still averaged only 3.9 yards per attempt and was held without multiple touchdowns for the first time since Week 6. Prescott was one of the leading MVP candidates entering this game, so there's a strong chance he'll be able to put this performance behind him as he leads the Cowboys into a Week 16 matchup against the Dolphins.

Prescott and the Cowboys as a whole likely got a lot more than they bargained for from the opposing offense, which helped lead to a busy night for Dallas' star quarterback. He proved he was up to the task of pulling out a rare close game at home, connecting with CeeDee Lamb (15 yards), Brandin Cooks (seven yards) and Jake Ferguson (12 yards) for his trio of scores. The latter touchdown pass came with 4:37 remaining and was followed by a two-point conversion toss to Cooks, taking the Cowboys from a five-point deficit to three-point advantage. He's a low-end QB1 who I'd sit for Jared Goff, Kirk Cousins and Joe Burrow but start over Brock Purdy and Geno Smith.

He's been amazing in his career after a bye, averaging 26.9 Fantasy points in six games after a break, and only once has he failed to score at least 22.9 points after a bye over that span. We'll see if he can stay successful this week against the Rams, who have allowed just two quarterbacks (Anthony Richardson and Jalen Hurts) to score more than 15.2 Fantasy points this season. San Francisco's vaunted defense gave Prescott fits all game long, sacking the quarterback three times and forcing three interceptions in Sunday's one-sided affair, although two of the picks came in the fourth quarter when Dallas was in desperation mode. Prescott was inaccurate when given time in the pocket, airmailing an open Luke Schoonmaker on a third-down pass in the first half before leading Brandin Cooks out of bounds on a deep shot later in the contest. The 30-year-old had done a good job of protecting the ball with just one turnover over his four previous starts, so its fair to write this off as a down game against a tough opponent. Prescott has yet to throw for 300 yards in any game this season, but that could change with a potential bounce-back performance against the Chargers' league-worst pass defense next Monday.

Prescott has scored 16.4 Fantasy points or less in three of four games this season, and it's hard to trust him in one-quarterback leagues at San Francisco. While the 49ers did allow Joshua Dobbs to score 27.4 Fantasy points in Week 4, the previous three quarterbacks against San Francisco (Kenny Pickett, Matthew Stafford and Daniel Jones) combined for just 31.8 points. Granted, that's not exactly the most stellar list of opponents, but Prescott has been underwhelming this season with his production. He also has offensive line concerns with left tackle Tyron Smith (knee) and right guard Zack Martin (quad) at less than 100 percent. I would only start Prescott in Superflex and two-quarterback leagues in Week 5.

Coming off of a disappointing Week 3 performance, Prescott bounced back to carve up the New England defense with an efficient effort. I don't mind starting Prescott IF his offensive line is healthy. However, that includes his left tackle, and Tyron Smith isn't going to play -- the interior guys might. Repeat, MIGHT. Prescott's at his best when he's protected and the Patriots will attack him if they think they can get to him easily. I have Geno Smith, Russell Wilson, Anthony Richardson and Justin Fields ranked ahead of Prescott.
