  • Texans' Robert Woods: Has statistically worst season

Woods ended the 2023 regular season with 40 catches (on 75 targets) for 426 yards and one touchdown over 14 games. Woods was given heavy usage early in the season -- more than half of his targets came in the first five weeks -- but quarterback C.J. Stroud looked his way less often as the season wore on. Part of that was due to injuries, but it also was a reflection of improved production from Nico Collins and the emergence of rookie Tank Dell (lower leg). Woods had the worst statistical season of his 11-year career. Those developments and another turn around the sun -- Woods will be 32 next season -- suggest the Texans might move on from the veteran. Cutting Woods could save Houston $5 million in cap space.

  • Texans' Robert Woods: Cleared to play Saturday

Woods (hip) doesn't carry an injury designation ahead of Saturday's divisional-round game against the Ravens. Woods was deemed a limited practice participant Tuesday through Thursday, but the wideout nonetheless will be available Saturday. In the process, he should have a chance to reclaim a key role alongside top WR Nico Collins, with Noah Brown (shoulder) having landed on injured reserve earlier this week. In that context, John Metchie and Xavier Hutchinson also are candidates to see added opportunities this weekend.

  • Texans' Robert Woods: Another limited session

Woods (hip) remained a limited participant at practice Wednesday. Woods was also deemed limited in Tuesday's session, but at this stage, the Texans haven't suggested that the wideout will miss Saturday's divisional-round game against the Ravens. Thursday's injury report will clarify whether Woods heads into the weekend with a designation or is fully cleared to play.

  • Texans' Robert Woods: Manages limited practice

Woods (hip) was officially a limited participant in practice Tuesday. Though Woods was a limited participant in the session, he could have a bigger role this weekend against Baltimore after ranking fourth among Houston's wide receivers in snaps during Saturday's 45-14 win over Cleveland. Noah Brown suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in the first quarter, and it was mostly John Metchie and Xavier Hutchinson who took on extra snaps -- perhaps because Woods was still bothered by the hip injury that held him out Week 18 and had him listed as questionable for the wild-card round.

  • Texans' Robert Woods: Fifteen snaps in playoff win

Woods caught one of two targets for 11 yards in Saturday's 45-14 wild-card win over Cleveland. Woods returned to action after missing the final game of the regular season but played just 15 snaps on a day when Noah Brown (shoulder) was removed after just five snaps. That, along with elevated usage for John Metchie (35 snaps) and Xavier Hutchinson (20 snaps), suggests Woods may not have been 100 percent healthy.

  • Texans' Robert Woods: Active Saturday

Woods (hip) is listed as active for Saturday's wild-card game against the Browns. Woods, who was listed as a non-participant in practice Tuesday, was deemed limited both Wednesday and Thursday before being listed as questionable for the contest. With Woods back in the lineup after missing Houston's playoff-clinching win over the Colts in Week 18, the veteran wideout will bolster a Texans passing attack that figures to be paced by top wideout Nico Collins and the team's No. 1 tight end, Dalton Schultz. In 14 regular-season games, Woods recorded a 40-426-1 line on 75 targets, a pace that limited his fantasy utility to deeper formats.

  • Texans' Robert Woods: Questionable for wild-card game

Woods (hip) is listed as questionable for Saturday's wild-card game against the Browns. After missing last week's regular-season finale versus the Colts, Woods sat out Tuesday's practice before logging limited reps Wednesday and Thursday. Like Woods, Noah Brown (back) is also listed as questionable for the wild-card round, though the former is likely a better bet to play after turning in two limited practices this week to the latter's one. Official word on the statuses of Woods and Brown for the playoff opener will arrive when Houston releases its inactive list 90 minutes prior to Saturday's 4:30 p.m. ET kickoff. Woods provided limited fantasy utility during the regular season, posting a modest 40-426-1 receiving line on 75 targets over his 14 appearances.

  • Texans' Robert Woods: Limited in return to practice

Woods (hip) was a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports. Woods missed the Texans' Week 18 win over the Colts after suffering a hip injury in the fourth quarter of the Week 17 win over Tennessee. He now has a chance to return for Saturday's playoff matchup with Cleveland, and he may even be the Texans' No. 2 wide receiver with Noah Brown (back) still not practicing. Woods said Wednesday that he felt good during his return to practice and hopes to be ready to go by Saturday, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston.

  • Texans' Robert Woods: Back at practice

Woods (hip) returned to practice Wednesday, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports. Woods, who was sidelined for the Texans' Week 18 win over the Colts, missed practice Tuesday, but his return to the field a day later suggests that the wideout has a chance to suit up for Saturday's playoff opener against the Browns. The team's second injury report of the week will be released later Wednesday, when the extent of Woods' practice participation will be known.

  • Texans' Robert Woods: Sitting out practice

Woods (hip) isn't participating in Tuesday's practice, DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN.com reports. Woods and fellow wideout Noah Brown (back) were both absent from the Texans' first practice of the week after the two were sidelined for this past Saturday's 23-19 win over the Colts. Both receivers will have two more opportunities to mix into drills ahead of Saturday's wild-card game against the Browns. While Woods and Brown were sidelined in Week 18, John Metchie (one catch for five yards on two targets) and Xavier Hutchinson (one catch for six yards on four targets) settled into top-three roles at receiver, but neither came through with a useful fantasy line.

  • Texans' Robert Woods: Gets questionable tag for Week 18

Woods (hip) is listed as questionable for Saturday's game against the Colts. Woods wasn't able to practice in any capacity this week, but the Texans aren't closing the door on the veteran wideout being available for Saturday's contest. Noah Brown (back), meanwhile, has already been ruled out for Week 18, so if Woods joins him on the inactive list, Houston would likely turn to youngsters John Metchie and Xavier Hutchinson to take on more reps alongside No. 1 receiver Nico Collins. Even if Woods is available to play without any limitations, he hasn't shown the ability to produce fantasy-friendly stat lines this season. Woods has maxed out at six catches and 74 receiving yards over his 14 appearances thus far in 2023.

  • Texans' Robert Woods: Remains sidelined Wednesday

Woods (hip) remained sidelined for Wednesday's practice. Both Woods and Noah Brown (back) have opened the practice week with two straight absences ahead of Saturday's regular-season finale versus the Colts. Woods played 64 percent of the Texans' offensive snaps in last week's win over the Titans, catching all four of his targets for 58 yards.

  • Texans' Robert Woods: No activity to begin week

Woods (hip) didn't take part in Tuesday's walkthrough. Woods and Noah Brown (back) were estimated as non-participants to kick off Week 18 prep after both players were knocked out of this past Sunday's win versus the Titans. Their respective activity levels Wednesday and Thursday likely will be key to determining if one or both have chances to play Saturday in Indianapolis.

  • Texans' Robert Woods: Injures hip Sunday

Woods was forced out of Sunday's 26-3 win over the Titans with a hip injury. Prior to his exit from the contest, Woods had caught all four of his targets for 58 yards. Meanwhile, Noah Brown also was forced out of the game with a hip injury, so the status of the two wideouts will need to be monitored as next weekend's game against the Colts approaches.

  • Texans' Robert Woods: Six targets in loss

Woods caught two of six targets for 14 yards in Sunday's 36-22 loss to the Browns in Week 16. Woods maintained elevated usage (61 snaps) even with the return of top wideout Nico Collins from a calf injury. Collins was on the field for just 35 snaps, which could have been a decision to hold him back due to the game getting out of hand early. With various injuries at wideout the last two games, Woods has 11 targets and played 81 percent of the offensive snaps.

  • Texans' Robert Woods: Increased opportunities

Woods caught three of five targets for 30 yards in Sunday's 19-16 overtime win over Tennessee in Week 15. Woods had been on the outs recently, but he was afforded an increased role (62 snaps, 81 percent) with both Nico Collins (calf) and Tank Dell (lower leg, IR) unavailable. Collins never practiced in preparation for Week 15, which leaves his availability for Week 16's home game against Cleveland in doubt. If he can't go, Woods should reprise an enhanced role in the passing attack.

  • Texans' Robert Woods: Three targets in loss

Woods caught two of three targets for 40 yards in Sunday's 24-21 loss to the Jaguars in Week 12. Woods found himself on the edge of quarterback C.J. Stroud's target distribution. Nico Collins (nine targets) and Tank Dell (eight), each of whom scored a touchdown Sunday, further established themselves as the team leaders at wide receiver. Given the way Noah Brown (knee) performed -- 13 catches, 325 yards, one touchdown -- in the two games leading up his Week 10 injury, a strong case can be made that Woods is fourth on the depth chart when all receivers are healthy.

  • Texans' Robert Woods: Returns to full practice

Woods (foot) practiced fully Thursday. Woods didn't practice Wednesday, but his ability to log a full session a day later would seem to confirm that his initial absence was maintenance-related. In his return from a two-game absence in the Texans' Week 10 win over the Bengals, Woods played 45 of 75 snaps on offense and caught one of his three targets for 15 yards. Now that he's further removed from the foot issue that sidelined him, Woods could see an uptick in production Sunday against the Cardinals, with quarterback C.J.Stroud having put up big passing numbers in two straight Houston wins.

  • Texans' Robert Woods: Back at practice

Woods (foot) was spotted at practice Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Woods didn't practice Wednesday, but his return a day later hints at his absence being maintenance related. Thursday's injury report will reveal the wideout's participation level in the team's second practice ahead of Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

  • Texans' Robert Woods: Misses practice Wednesday

Woods (foot) didn't practice Wednesday. Woods returned from a two-game absence in this past Sunday's 30-27 win over the Bengals, logging 45 of 75 snaps on offense and catching one of his three targets for 15 yards. With no reported setbacks in the contest, Woods may just be getting some extra maintenance for his foot ahead of this Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
