He is looking to secure a depth cornerback role with the 49ers in training camp.

The Titans placed Mitchell (hamstring) on injured reserve Thursday, Jim Wyatt of the team's official site reports. Mitchell has recorded 39 tackles, four passes defended and an interception while playing all but eight of his 378 snaps on defense across 11 games in 2022. With Elijah Molden (groin), Chris Jackson (undisclosed) and Caleb Farley (back) all on IR as well, the Titans currently have just four remaining cornerbacks on the active roster.

  • Terrance Mitchell: Released by New England

The Patriots released Mitchell on Tuesday, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports. Mitchell served as a starter in Houston's secondary in 2021 and signed a one-year, $3 million deal with New England this offseason. However, he finds himself among a wave of cuts ahead of Tuesday's 53-man roster deadline. The 2014 seventh-round pick has played at least 300 defensive snaps with three different teams over the last five seasons, so he figures to garner some interest as a free agent.

Jackson before allowing him to leave for the Chargers in free agency.

  • Browns' Terrance Mitchell: Will play in wild-card round

Mitchell (personal) will play in Sunday's wild-card round game against the Steelers. Mitchell missed Friday's practice after what turned out to be a false positive COVID-19 test. He has tested negative since and gotten clearance to play, and Mitchell should play an increased role in a Cleveland secondary that will be without top cornerback Denzel Ward (reserve/COVID-19).

  • Browns' Terrance Mitchell: Questionable for wild-card round

Mitchell (personal) is questionable for Sunday's wild-card round game against the Steelers, Andrew Gribble of the Browns' official site reports. Mitchell's questionable designation isn't injury-related, though the exact reason for his inclusion on the injury report is unknown. If Mitchell's unable to suit up Sunday, Tavierre Thomas would be in line for a larger role in Cleveland's undermanned cornerback corps.

  • Browns' Terrance Mitchell: Piles up 12 tackles

Mitchell posted 12 tackles (11 solo) in Sunday's 49-38 win over the Cowboys. Mitchell led the Browns in tackles since Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott attempted 58 passes Sunday, but the cornerback's coverage has been decent this season. Through four games, Mitchell has allowed a 99.1 passer rating while filling in for Greedy Williams (shoulder). Mitchell will likely maintain a consistent role even when Williams returns, but he's probably not worth an add in IDP formats with Sunday's numbers considered an anomaly.

  • Browns' Terrance Mitchell: Inks three-year deal with Browns

Mitchell signed a three-year, $12 million contract with the Browns on Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Mitchell, a 2014 seventh-rounder, easily had his best statistical season as professional last year with the Chiefs but proved to be somewhat of an on-field liability -- so much so he was ultimately benched in Week 8. He didn't see significant playing time again until Week 12 before getting benched again in Week 16, and then once again for Kansas City's postseason loss to the Titans on Jan. 6. Fortunately, he'll now get a fresh start in Cleveland and will compete for slotting on the depth chart underneath undisputed top cornerback Jason McCourty.

  • Chiefs' Terrance Mitchell: Breaks out in 2017

Mitchell racked up 53 tackles (48 solo) and four interceptions during the 2017 regular season. Mitchell appeared in no more than eight games in his first three NFL seasons and wasn't much of a contributor in his first few seasons in the league. That changed in 2017, when the fourth-year cornerback provided the team with some quality snaps with Steven Nelson down with an abdominal injury early in the season, and Marcus Peters missing a game late due to a suspension and a rest day in Week 17. The team signed Darrelle Revis late in the campaign, but that experiment seemingly fell flat. A restricted free agent heading into 2018, it wouldn't be surprising if the Chiefs re-upped the 25-year-old in 2018, albeit more as a depth corner when Peters and Nelson are both on the field.
