Abrams went 2-for-2 with a solo homer, an RBI single and a stolen base in Friday's loss to Houston. The young shortstop has impressed in spring games thus far, logging four hits and three steals without a strikeout over the course of four games. Abrams' impressive rookie campaign with Washington included him setting the single-season franchise record with 47 steals. The 23-year-old will consistently be hitting leadoff for a less-than-stellar lineup, and he will look to explode as perhaps one of the few bright spots on the Nationals.... See More ... See Less

Nationals' CJ Abrams: Returns after one-game absence
Abrams (knee) will start at shortstop and bat leadoff Monday versus the Pirates in his return to the lineup, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports. Abrams missed Sunday's 7-3 loss to the Dodgers after banging his knee Saturday, but he needed just one day off to move past the injury. The young infielder has a .719 OPS with 16 home runs and 41 stolen bases this season.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' CJ Abrams: Managing knee issue
Abrams is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers due to a knee injury, though manager Dave Martinez said the shortstop should be available off the bench, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.comreports. The 22-year-old apparently banged his knee on a slide during Saturday's contest and will sit out Sunday's series finale, though Marinez expects Abrams to be back in the lineup Monday in Pittsburgh. Ildemaro Vargas will take over at shortstop and bat fifth.... See More ... See Less -

Abrams stole two bases and scored a run in Thursday's win over the Red Sox. The shortstop began the game on the bench, but after getting hit by a pitch in the eighth inning when he pinch-hit for Jeter Downs, Abrams races around the bases before adding an insurance run for the Nationals on a Stone Garrett single. Abrams is up to 33 steals in 36 attempts on the season, and since the All-Star break the 22-year-old is slashing .272/.338/.432 with four homers, nine RBI and 23 runs in 32 games.... See More ... Nationals' CJ Abrams: Reaches three times in loss
Abrams went 1-for-3 with two walks, a run and a stolen base in Thursday's loss to the Mets. Abrams was one of just two Nationals hitters to reach base multiple times in the loss, and he scored the team's only run following a walk and a stolen base in the sixth inning. Though the shortstop has begun to tail off just a bit by going 4-for-19 over his past five games, that won't prevent July from being arguably the best month of his career thus far. Through 21 July games, Abrams is slashing .337/.398/.542 with three homers, four doubles, two triples, eight RBI, 21 runs, and 12 thefts on 12 attempts.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' CJ Abrams: Swipes bag No. 20
Abrams went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's 6-5 win over the Rockies. The young shortstop continues to emerge as a fantasy force. Through 19 games in July, Abrams is slashing .342/.386/.566 with three homers, seven RBI and 19 runs while primarily hitting leadoff. He's also gone a perfect 11-for-11 on the basepaths this month, giving Abrams the first of what could be many 20-steal seasons.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' C.J. Abrams: Possible waiver wire pickups
Here he is, the ultimate shortstop replacement if you lost Corey Seager or someone else. It's taken over a calendar year of major-league action, but Abrams has finally begun to live up to his prospect billing here in July, batting .353 (24 for 68) with three homers and 10 steals. A big part of his turnaround is simply making better use of his wheels, which was always thought to be his best tool, but his two home runs over the weekend serve as a reminder he's not a one-trick pony. His on-base skills are still sorely lacking, but they haven't stopped him from batting leadoff over the past two weeks. And lest you mistake him for a Roto-only play, Abrams is now averaging more Head-to-Head points per game on the season (2.72) than Dansby Swanson (2.66).... See More ... See Less
