  • Red Sox's Triston Casas: Dropped in order

Casas batted sixth and went 1-for-3 with a walk in Sunday's 3-1 win over the White Sox. Red Sox manager Alex Cora trotted out a reconfigured batting order Sunday, dropping Casas, who had batted cleanup behind Alex Bregman in all 12 of his starts, to sixth. The hot-hitting Wilyer Abreu was promoted to cleanup. "Willy is swinging the bat well," Cora told Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com. "Triston put some good swings two nights ago but I felt like today was a good day to have this configuration." Casas entered Sunday's contest batting .176 (9-for-51) with a .530 OPS.

Casas is not in the lineup for Tuesday's contest against the Blue Jays, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports. The left-handed hitting Casas is getting a day off as the Blue Jays send left-hander Easton Lucas to the hill. Romy Gonzalez will start at first base and bat seventh for the Red Sox. Boston has faced two left-handed starters this season, and Casas was held out of the starting lineup in both games.

  • Red Sox's Triston Casas: Takes seat for Game 2

Casas is not in the starting lineup for the nightcap of Sunday's doubleheader with the Cardinals, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. Romy Gonzalez will draw the start at first base and bat seventh versus St. Louis.

  • Red Sox's Triston Casas: Belts first homer

Casas went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in Thursday's 8-4 win over the Orioles. Like a few of his teammates, Casas has had a quiet start to the regular season, going 1-for-17 (.059) through his first five games. The first baseman had an encouraging finish to team's seven-game road trip though, with his two-run homer in the seventh inning giving the Red Sox breathing room en route to their first series win of the season. Casas was often given days off against left-handers last season, and he was on the bench for the lone southpaw the team has faced thus far in 2025. He'll look to build off Thursday's contributions in Boston's home opener Friday against St. Louis right-hander Erick Fedde.

Casas will not start Monday in Baltimore, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. The top four in Boston's order hit a combined .138 (9-for-65) during a season-opening series that saw the Red Sox lose three of four games in Texas. Casas, who was 1-for-16 with seven strikeouts, will get the day off against Baltimore lefty Cade Povich, the first southpaw starter the team will face this season.

  • Red Sox's Triston Casas: In lineup for opener

Casas (hand) will start at first base and bat cleanup in Thursday's season opener in Texas. Casas took a ball off his bare hand in the field earlier this week, but X-rays were negative, and he'll be good to go for the start of the season. The first baseman was limited to only 63 games in 2024 due to injury but heads into the 2025 campaign with a clean bill of health.

  • Red Sox's Triston Casas: Expected to be fine for Opening Day

Casas (hand) is expected to be ready to play Thursday against the Rangers, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports. X-rays were negative after Casas attempted to field a bad hop with his bare hand Monday. Manager Alex Cora noted after Tuesday's exhibition that Casas was sore but feeling "a lot better," while the decision to hold him out Tuesday was described as precautionary. With that, Casas appears to be in line to bat cleanup against right-hander Nathan Eovaldi on Opening Day, though fantasy managers may want to confirm his status before first pitch.

Casas has been scratched from the lineup for Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against the Pirates due to an illness, Alex Speier of the Boston Globe reports. • Red Sox's Triston Casas: Not being shopped in trades

Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said Monday that the team is "not shopping" Casas in trade talks this offseason, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports. We wouldn't have expected him to say otherwise, and Breslow did acknowledge that he's discussed Casas with other clubs in trade scenarios this winter. Breslow also noted that he's looking for a right-handed bat, and a trade of the left-handed hitting Casas still seems possible as the Red Sox seek to balance out their lineup.

  • Red Sox's Triston Casas: Multiple hits again

Casas went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the second game of Monday's doubleheader against the Blue Jays. He was 0-for-2 with a walk in the afternoon game. The afternoon game was the resumption of a June 26 contest suspended by rain. Casas, who was on the injured list at that time, took over at first base for the departed Dominic Smith. The two hits in the nightcap gave him six multi-hit efforts in the 10 games since coming off the IL. Casas is batting .359/.419/.538 with three extra-base hits (two home runs), six RBI and six runs scored since he was activated Aug. 16.

  • Red Sox's Triston Casas: Homers early in win

Casas went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, an additional RBI and two walks in Tuesday's 6-5 win over the Astros. Casas has logged multiple hits in three of his five games since returning from what was nearly a four-month absence due to a cartilage tear in his ribcage. He's gone 7-for-20 (.350) since his return, with his homer Tuesday being his first extra-base hit in that span. For the year, the first baseman is at a .265/.363/.510 slash line with seven homers, 13 RBI, 16 runs scored and three doubles across 113 plate appearances.

  • Red Sox's Triston Casas: Activation coming Friday

The Red Sox will activate Casas (ribs) from the 60-day injured list ahead of Friday's game in Baltimore, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports. Casas is finally ready to rejoin the Boston lineup after being shelved since late April with a cartilage tear in his left ribcage. The first baseman slashed .300/.404/.550 with one home run and seven doubles over 11 rehab games with Triple-A Worcester. Casas will be the everyday first baseman down the stretch, although it's possible he'll be given some extra off days initially following such a long layoff.

  • Red Sox's Triston Casas: Not expected back during homestand

Manager Alex Cora said Saturday that Casas (ribs) likely won't return from the 60-day injured list before the Red Sox's homestand ends Wednesday, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports. Casas seems to have physically recovered from the cartilage tear in his ribcage that forced him onto the injured list in April, but he'll remain at Triple-A Worcester for the next several days in order to continue working on his timing at the plate. However, his rehab assignment is set to expire next week, so he should be activated off the 60-day IL sometime during Boston's road series in Baltimore that begins Friday.

  • Red Sox's Triston Casas: Return date up to him

Red Sox manager Alex Cora indicated Friday that Casas (ribs) will be activated from the 60-day injured list whenever the first baseman feels his timing at the plate is ready, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports. Casas is 8-for-25 with five doubles and a 7:2 K:BB over six rehab games with Triple-A Worcester. It sounds like the team is no longer concerned about whether Casas is ready physically and now it's just about knocking a little more rust off. While the news is relatively vague in terms of a potential timetable, it would appear Casas could be back any day now. He's been sidelined since late April with a cartilage tear in his left ribcage.
