Rivera (shoulder) has gone 3-for-12 with two walks, an RBI and a stolen base in three games since being activated from Triple-A Norfolk's 7-day injured list Friday. Rivera had been attending spring training as a non-roster invitee but didn't appear in any Grapefruit League games after March 13 due to a sore left shoulder. The injury resulted in him being inactive when Norfolk opened its season March 28, but Rivera missed only a handful of games before being cleared for his 2025 debut. The 28-year-old boasts 341 games' worth of MLB experience, but since he no longer possesses a spot on the Orioles' 40-man roster, he may face an uphill battle to earn another look with Baltimore in 2025.... Orioles' Emmanuel Rivera: Dealing with sore left shoulder
Rivera is working through left shoulder soreness that popped up during Thursday's spring game against the Blue Jays, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Rivera started feeling discomfort in his left shoulder when swinging the bat. He'll likely be held out for the next couple of days and could return following the Orioles' off-day Wednesday.... Orioles' Emmanuel Rivera: Accepts outright assignment
The Orioles outrighted Rivera to Triple-A Norfolk on Monday, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports. Rivera had the option to decline the assignment and elect free agency, but that would have meant forfeiting the $1 million salary he and the Orioles already agreed to earlier this offseason. He will now receive that salary whether he begins the season in the majors or minors, and the 28-year-old is likely ticketed for Triple-A Norfolk.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Emmanuel Rivera: Booted from 40-man roster
The Orioles designated Rivera for assignment Friday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. The transaction frees up room on the 40-man roster for Luis Vazquez, who was acquired from the Cubs on Friday. Rivera slashed .313/.370/.578 in 73 plate appearances down the stretch with the Orioles last season and agreed to a one-year, $1 million contract earlier this offseason to avoid arbitration, but he'll now go through the waivers process.... Orioles' Emmanuel Rivera: Settles at $1 million
Rivera agreed to a one-year, $1 million contract with the Orioles on Friday to avoid arbitration, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. Rivera slashed .313/.370/.578 with four homers and 14 RBI in 73 plate appearances after joining the Orioles in August -- good enough to earn him a $260,000 pay increase for 2025. Though he's played well in his brief Orioles tenure, the 28-year-old is expected to fill a reserve role next season.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Emmanuel Rivera: Career game in Minnesota
Rivera went 4-for-4 with two home runs, a double, a walk, four RBI and three runs scored in Saturday's 9-2 win over the Twins. Rivera has had to battle for playing time ever since he got to Baltimore, but he's produced with a .323/.380/.597 slash line over 26 games with the team. He doubled his homer total with the Orioles in a big game Saturday. Overall in 2024, he's slashing .240/.314/.346 with five homers, 29 RBI, 24 runs scored and two stolen bases across 300 plate appearances between the Orioles and the Marlins. With Baltimore having gotten healthier late in the regular season, Rivera may be limited to a bench role if he's included on the postseason roster.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Emmanuel Rivera: Heads to bench Sunday
Rivera is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers. Rivera had started in each of the Orioles' last nine games while slashing .276/.333/.414 with one home run and two walks during that stretch, but he'll head to the bench for the series finale. With both Jordan Westburg (hand) and Ramon Urias (ankle) picking up starts in the infield in their returns from the 10-day injured list Sunday, Rivera could be at risk of falling into a part-time role during the final week of the season.... Orioles' Emmanuel Rivera: Drawing sixth straight start
Rivera will start at third base and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Giants. Rivera has produced a .754 OPS thus far in September and will be rewarded with a sixth consecutive start at third base while he remains one of the Orioles' more productive bats of late. Though top prospect Coby Mayo hasn't presented much of a threat to his playing time, Rivera could be more at risk of losing at-bats once Ramon Urias (ankle) returns from the injured list. Urias is expected to report to Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday to begin a rehab assignment.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Emmanuel Rivera: Belts homer Wednesday
Rivera went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional RBI in Wednesday's extra-inning loss to Boston. Rivera put Baltimore on the board in the third inning with a solo shot to left field. He gave the team another lead with an RBI single in the 10th, but Boston emerged with the victory on a Tyler O'Neill walk-off homer in the bottom of that frame. It was a rare opportunity for Rivera to produce, as he's started just twice in the Orioles' past seven games.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Emmanuel Rivera: Belts second homer
Rivera went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI in Friday's 5-3 win over the Rockies. His two-run homer off Austin Gomber in the fourth inning put Baltimore in the lead for good. It was Rivera's first long ball as an Oriole and just his second of the season, and while he's started three of the last six games for his new squad, he's received only seven plate appearances during that time as Ramon Urias continues to see the bulk of the action at third base.... Orioles' Emmanuel Rivera: Claimed by Baltimore
The Orioles claimed Rivera off waivers from the Marlins on Wednesday. Rivera is out of options, so he will report to the major-league club. Once that happens, the Orioles will need to make a corresponding move to their 26-man roster. Rivera slashed only just .214/.294/.269 with one home run in 96 games with the Marlins, but he grades out well defensively at third base, where he could get some reps while the Orioles try to withstand the loss of Jordan Westburg (hand).... Marlins' Emmanuel Rivera: Removed from 40-man roster
The Marlins designated Rivera for assignment Monday. Rivera had seen his playing time drying up lately and with the arrival of Connor Norby, he's now off the roster altogether. The 28-year-old slashed just .214/.294/.269 with one home run in 96 games with Miami and would seem to stand a good chance of passing through waivers.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Emmanuel Rivera: Resting Saturday
Rivera isn't in the Marlins' lineup Saturday versus the Padres. Rivera went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts Friday, snapping a five-game hitting streak. His absence will put Jake Burger at third base and open a spot in the lineup for Derek Hill to start in center field while batting eighth.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Emmanuel Rivera: Sitting out Thursday
Rivera is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Reds. Rivera has been the Marlins' primary third baseman of late while Jake Burger mostly occupies first base or the designated hitter slot. However, it will be Burger handling the hot corner in this one.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Emmanuel Rivera: Out of Tuesday's lineup
Rivera is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Reds, Kevin Barral of FishonFirst.com reports. Rivera started the previous four games and will receive Tuesday off after going 5-for-14 with two walks, a run and a steal during that stretch. Jake Burger will man the hot corner while Jesus Sanchez receives a turn at designated hitter.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Emmanuel Rivera: Gaining playing time vs. righties
Rivera will start at third base and bat fifth in Sunday's game against Atlanta. Rivera has operated as a short-side platoon player for much of his time in the majors this season, but he started the first two games of the series against right-handed pitchers and will remain in the lineup for the finale while southpaw Max Fried toes the rubber for Atlanta. The uptick in playing time against right-handed pitching looks to be a byproduct of the Marlins shipping Josh Bell to the Diamondbacks at the trade deadline, with the deal paving the way for Jake Burger to log more time at first base and designated hitter while Rivera gets more reps at third base.... Marlins' Emmanuel Rivera: Lifts homer
Rivera went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run during Tuesday's 9-3 loss to the Rays. Rivera notched his first long ball of the season Tuesday, taking Jeffrey Springs yard in the first inning. With the Marlins unloading several bats at the deadline, Rivera could see regular playing time down the stretch of the regular season. The 28-year-old is slashing .212/.296/.279 with 14 RBI and 14 runs across 190 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Emmanuel Rivera: On bench Tuesday
Rivera isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Orioles. Rivera will be on the bench for the third time in five games since the All-Star break, with Josh Bell starting at first base and Jake Burger handling the hot corner. Rivera is slashing .214/.303/.253 through 179 plate appearances this season.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Emmanuel Rivera: Back on bench Sunday
Rivera is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox. Heading into the weekend, Rivera had started at third base in each of the last four games, but he'll move to the bench for the second time during the Marlins' three-game series with the White Sox. Rivera should have a regular spot in the lineup against left-handed pitching, but he might be viewed as more of a part-time option against right-handed pitching while he's thus far provided a weak .214/.296/.257 slash line over 160 plate appearances in the big leagues this season.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Emmanuel Rivera: Getting breather
Rivera is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the White Sox. Rivera had made four consecutive starts at third base, but he'll take a seat for Friday's series opener. In his stead, Jake Burger will play third base and bat sixth.... See More ... See Less
