As anticipated, Colas will join the big club after the White Sox placed infielder Yoan Moncada (adductor) on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. With the White Sox sitting on a 2-9 record and already trending toward fading from the playoff race with Moncada and two other key regulars in Luis Robert (hip) and Eloy Jimenez (adductor) on the IL, Colas could end up getting a look as an everyday player in the outfield. The 25-year-old did little to distinguish himself after making the White Sox's Opening Day roster last spring, as he slashed just .216/.257/.314 over 263 plate appearances and ultimately finished the 2023 season in the minors. Colas had posted an .875 OPS with one stolen base through his first eight games with Charlotte this season prior to receiving a promotion.

The White Sox need reinforcements with Yoan Moncada (adductor) joining Luis Robert (hip) and Eloy Jimenez (adductor) on the shelf. Colas is 9-for-28 with one home run and two doubles in the early going with Charlotte and should get a decent number of reps in the outfield, at least against right-handed pitching.

Colas has played only right field and center field since being signed by the White Sox in January of 2022, but he has extensive experience at first base from his days playing in Japan. Andrew Vaughn has first base locked down with the big club, but Colas adding to his versatility gives him another avenue to at-bats. The 25-year-old is expected to begin 2024 back in the minors following a disappointing 2023, which saw him post just a .571 OPS over 75 games with the big club.

Colas earned the starting right field job for the White Sox to begin the 2023 season, though he posted just a 53 wRC+ across 263 plate appearances. He was also demoted to Charlotte from early May to early July, and once again in mid-September. If the 25-year-old returns to the minors to start 2024, Gavin Sheets and the newly signed Kevin Pillar would be the top options in right field, but Colas could still re-establish himself with a big spring.

Colas has now been sent down to the minors for the second time this season, as he was also optioned back in early May following a slow start to the campaign. Colas slashed just .219/.253/.331 in 50 games after being recalled in early July and is hitting only .216/.257/.314 overall in his rookie campaign. Gavin Sheets and Trayce Thompson are likely to form a platoon in right field with Colas headed back to Triple-A.

The 24-year-old is still trying to settle in at the major league level, as he's slashing .233/.227/.279 with two extra-base hits, two RBI, five runs and a 0:16 BB:K in 43 plate appearances since being recalled July 4. Colas has settled in as Chicago's everyday right fielder, but he could be at risk of losing some at-bats when third baseman Yoan Moncada (back) returns from the injured list during the upcoming week. Jake Burger has been one of the Chicago's top bats and could settle in at designated hitter once Moncada is in the fold, perhaps resulting in Eloy Jimenez poaching starts from Colas in right field.

Colas had been swinging a hot bat with Charlotte, putting up a 1.253 OPS with seven home runs over his last 10 contests. He batted only .211/.265/.276 in his first 25 games for the White Sox before being sent down back in late April, but the talented 24-year-old is worth another shot in deeper mixed leagues as he settles back in in right field for the Pale Hose.

Colas is hitting .297 with six home runs and a 21.2 percent strikeout rate in 44 games since getting optioned to Triple-A on May 2. Gavin Sheets and Clint Frazier have been platooning in right field for the White Sox, and both players have been below league average as hitters, so it would seem that Colas could be nearing a return to the big leagues.
