Luis Arraez won the AL batting title and was dealt to Miami in a deal for Pablo Lopez over the winter. Rather than pout about leaving the only organization he has ever known, Arraez simply went out and won the NL batting title as well as the overall league batting title obliterating the competition. He was one of three qualified hitters who walked more than he struck out, which is quite the accomplishment given he only walked 35 times in 617 plate appearances in 2023. His extreme bat to ball skills with a willingness to use all fields gives him the highest batting average floor in fantasy baseball and his .326 career average in nearly 2200 plate appearance attests to that. He does not run well, but is on base at a high volume to score enough runs and is not a drag on RBIs like other "slappies" can be. Don't sell his power short as he can turn and burn on occasion as well. Arraez is to batting average what Esteury Ruiz is to steals without dragging down other categories.

  • Marlins' Luis Arraez: Three hits in loss

Arraez went 3-for-4 with a run scored in Monday's loss to the Giants. All three hits were singles, but that's par for the course for Arraez. The reigning NL batting champ had a slow start to the season but quickly found his form, and he's hit safely in five straight games while going 8-for-20. The surge has lifted Arraez's slash line to .284/.368/.343 with 12 runs scored, but he has zero homers or steals and only one RBI.

  • Marlins' Luis Arraez: Four hits in win

Arraez went 4-for-5 with a triple and three runs scored in Sunday's win over the Cardinals. Arraez's bat finally got going after he entered Sunday's action hitting just .194 through nine games. It was his 14th career 4-hit game though he is still in search of his first RBI on the season. Arraez has scored nine runs while batting atop the Marlins' order, which is currently tied for ninth best in baseball.

  • Marlins' Luis Arraez: Reaches base five times

Arraez went 2-for-2 with three walks and a run scored during Monday's loss to the Angels. Arraez had an uncharacteristic opening series against the Pirates, going just 2-for-18 in the four-game set. Monday's performance was his first multi-hit effort of the year and looked much more like the elite bat-to-ball star that fantasy managers are used to. He's registered a .360 OBP through five games despite the slow start.

  • Marlins' Luis Arraez: Racking up hits this spring

Arraez went 2-for-3 with a double in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Phillies. It's the fifth time in his last six spring games that Arraez has banged out multiple hits. The reigning NL batting champ has a .382 average in camp (13-for-34) with five doubles and a 0:3 BB:K, and Arraez is locked into the leadoff spot for the Marlins after posting a .354/.393/.469 slash line with a career-high 10 homers and 69 RBI in 2023.

  • Marlins' Luis Arraez: Loses arbitration case

Arraez lost his arbitration hearing with the Marlins on Wednesday and will earn $10.6 million in salary for the 2024 season, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports. Coming off a 2023 season in which he won the National League batting crown with a .354 average, Arraez filed for $12 million, but an arbitrator ruled in favor of the Marlins. The $10.6 million salary still represents a $4.5 million pay increase from 2023 for Arraez, who is set to go through the arbitration process one more time next offseason before becoming a free agent following the 2025 campaign. Arraez will head into his second season as Miami's everyday second baseman, and while he once again projects to rank among the league leaders in batting average, his paucity of power and speed put a ceiling on his overall fantasy value.

  • Marlins' Luis Arraez: Batting leadoff in Game 1

Arraez (ankle) is starting at second base and batting leadoff Tuesday in Game 1 of the NL Wild Card Series against the Phillies. Arraez played only one full game over the final two weeks of the regular season because of a left ankle injury, but he's ready to rock for the Marlins leading into their best-of-three NL Wild Card Series matchup at Philadelphia. The 26-year-old paced all qualified MLB hitters in batting average this season with a mark of .354.

  • Marlins' Luis Arraez: Expected to be ready for Game 1

Marlins manager Skip Schumaker said Monday that he expects Arraez (ankle) to be ready for Game 1 of the National League Wild Card Series against the Phillies on Tuesday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. Arraez hasn't started a game in more than a week after aggravating a left ankle sprain on Sept. 23, but he did contribute a pinch-hit single off the bench this past Friday and is expected to be in the Marlins' Game 1 lineup. The two-time batting champ finished the 2023 campaign having slashed .354/.393/.469 with 10 home runs.

Xavier Edwards is covering second base and batting ninth in Thursday's series finale against New York.

  • Marlins' Luis Arraez: Out for first game Wednesday

Arraez (ankle) remains out of the lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Mets, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Arraez had been set to miss Tuesday's contest before it was rained out and is not in there for the makeup game, either. He hasn't played since Sept. 23 because of a left ankle sprain, and it's not clear whether he might have a shot to participate in Wednesday's nightcap. Jon Berti is at second base and batting fifth for the first game.

  • Marlins' Luis Arraez: Held out Sunday

Arraez (ankle) isn't in the Marlins' lineup Sunday against Milwaukee, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Arraez re-injured his left ankle during Saturday's win over Milwaukee and said before Sunday's game that he "can't do anything right now." He will get an extra day of rest during Miami's day off Monday, but for now there's no telling when he'll be able to return. Xavier Edwards will start at second base and bat ninth while Arraez is out.

Arraez was removed from Saturday's win over the Brewers with an apparent leg injury, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports. Arraez slipped on the dugout steps when the lights were turned off at loanDepot park for Tanner Scott's entrance in the top of the ninth inning. Garrett Hampson took over at second base for the final frame as Joey Wendle entered to play shortstop. Arraez, the MLB batting average leader at .353, just returned Friday from a two-game absence for a left ankle sprain and could now need more time off in the heat of the Marlins' NL wild-card hunt.

  • Marlins' Luis Arraez: Out again with ankle sprain

Arraez (ankle) remains out of the lineup Wednesday versus the Mets. Arraez was scratched Tuesday after suffering a left ankle sprain while participating in pregame infield practice. It's a positive sign that he has yet to be placed on the 10-day injured list, and the MLB batting average leader (.354) can utilize Thursday's scheduled team off day to hopefully get himself healthy for the Marlins' upcoming three-game weekend set against the Brewers. Jon Berti will fill in at second base and hit eighth in Wednesday's series finale versus New York.

This injury comes with awful timing for the Marlins, who are currently a half-game back of the third NL wild-card spot. Xavier Edwards is filling in at second base Tuesday night against New York.

  • Marlins' Luis Arraez: Belts leadoff homer

Arraez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 3-1 loss to the Brewers. Arraez started Tuesday's game with fireworks, swatting his seventh long ball of the season in the first inning off Freddy Peralta. However, Arraez would be the only Marlin to cross home plate, as they ultimately fell 3-1. Through 10 games this month, Arraez is 13-for-39 (.333) with eight runs scored and six RBI while striking out just 4.8 percent of the time.
