  • Rangers' Dustin Harris: Healthy again in spring training

Harris (oblique) came off the bench and played two innings at first base Saturday in the Rangers' 7-1 loss to the Dodgers in Cactus League play. Harris hadn't appeared in a Cactus League game since Feb. 28 due to a sore oblique, but he looks like he'll head into the regular season with a clean bill of health after he was available to play Saturday. He'll open the 2024 campaign at Triple-A Round Rock after the Rangers optioned him Tuesday.

  • Rangers' Dustin Harris: Optioned to minor-league camp

The Rangers optioned Harris (oblique) to Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday. Harris received an invite to big-league camp as one of the organization's top prospects and went 3-for-10 with a double and two RBI through five games, but he's been sidelined by an oblique issue for the past week. The 24-year-old didn't have a realistic chance of making the Opening Day roster regardless of the injury, and he'll now shift over to minor-league camp.

  • Rangers' Dustin Harris: Scratched with oblique soreness

Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said that Harris was scratched from the lineup for Thursday's Cactus League game against the Brewers due to "a little soreness in the oblique area," Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. Harris, who has gone 3-for-10 with a double and two RBI through his first five spring training games, was slated to start in left field and bat seventh Thursday before he developed the oblique issue. Though Bochy seemed to downplay any concern about the injury, given the tendency of oblique issues to linger, it wouldn't be surprising if Harris was held out for the next several days. Harris was a standout performer between the Double-A and Triple-A levels in 2023 and already possesses a spot on the 40-man roster, but with fellow prospects Evan Carter and Wyatt Langford seemingly ahead of him in the outfield pecking order, Harris is likely to return to Triple-A Round Rock to begin the 2024 season.

  • Rangers' Dustin Harris: Promoted to Triple-A

Harris was promoted to Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. Harris had a slow April for Double-A Frisco but had an .827 OPS with 11 steals over the last month for the RoughRiders. He went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run and two additional runs scored in his first game with the Express.

  • Rangers' Dustin Harris: Likely done for season

Harris (wrist) won't require surgery but isn't expected to return to action for Double-A Frisco this year, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports. The 23-year-old landed on the shelf with a sprained left wrist Aug. 10, and he isn't expected back with the RoughRiders in 2022. One of the Rangers' top prospects, Harris should finish the year with a .259/.346/.485 slash line with 18 home runs, 68 RBI and 19 stolen bases in 86 games at Double-A. He could still be available to play in the Fall League.

  • Rangers' Dustin Harris: Cool start in Double-A

Harris has a six-game hitting streak going at Double-A Frisco, but he's still sitting on a modest .258/.294/.290 line to open the campaign. The power he showed in the minors last year has yet to make an appearance in Double-A, and Harris is also sitting on career-worst walk and strikeout rates (6.1 and 29.4 percent, respectively) early on. That said, his spectacular 2021 results -- .327/.401/.542 with 20 homers and 25 steals in 110 games across Low-A and High-A -- certainly earned him some patience. There's no need to downgrade his stock based on these early returns.
