Middleton (forearm) played catch from 110 feet Saturday and Sunday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. The Cardinals haven't followed up about how Middleton responded to his latest long-toss session, but assuming he didn't experience any complications with his strained right forearm, he could soon be cleared to start throwing off a mound again. Middleton hasn't pitched since suffering the injury in a March 7 Grapefruit League game, but once healthy, he's expected to be a key part of the late-inning bridge to closer Ryan Helsley.... Cardinals' Keynan Middleton: Resumes throwing
Middleton (forearm) started playing catch Sunday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. Middleton was diagnosed with a right forearm strain in mid-March and received a PRP injection earlier this month after he had to be pulled off his initial recovery program. The team will likely take a conservative approach with Middleton's throwing from here given the nature of the injury and the fact that he's already suffered one setback this spring. There is no set timetable for his return.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Keynan Middleton: Receives PRP injection
Middleton received a platelet-rich plasma injection in his right forearm Saturday, John Denton of MLB.com reports. Middleton had to be pulled off his recovery program after suffering a setback earlier in the week, and he will now be shut down from all activity for another three days. The Cardinals will re-evaluate his progress in a week, at which point a decision will be made on whether or not to resume his throwing program. As a reliever, Middleton's ramp-up process will likely be relatively short, but a late-April return seems to be the best possible outcome for the 30-year-old righty.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Keynan Middleton: Still not throwing
Manager Oliver Marmol said Saturday that Middleton (forearm) has yet to resume his throwing program, John Denton of MLB.com reports. Middleton had been scheduled for mound work earlier in the week, but a setback prevented him from throwing. He will meet with the Cardinals' staff Saturday to discuss the next steps of his rehab process, but it appears the right-hander's absence will extend further into the season than originally expected.... Cardinals' Keynan Middleton: Set to resume throwing
Middleton (forearm) will start a throwing program Wednesday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. Next week will mark the first time Middleton has thrown since March 16 after he sustained a right forearm strain during spring training. He was placed on the 15-day IL on Tuesday, and Middleton's progress in the throwing program will give the Cardinals a better idea as to when the right-hander will be able to return to the majors.... Cardinals' Keynan Middleton: Placed on IL
The Cardinals placed Middleton on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a right forearm strain, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. Middleton has been shut down from throwing since March 16, and although he's slated to begin his throwing progression soon, his absence will officially extend into the regular season. An exact timetable for the right-hander's return is unclear, but a better picture should emerge as he gets further along in his recovery process.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Keynan Middleton: Dealing with right forearm strain
Manager Oli Marmol said Saturday that Middleton will be shut down for 10 days due to a right forearm strain, John Denton of MLB.com reports. It's unclear when Middleton picked up the injury, but he won't be in action for the next 10 days and will start the regular season on the injured list. Middleton joined the Cardinals on a one-year, $6 million contract in February after splitting last season between the White Sox and Yankees. The right-hander posted a 3.38 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 64:23 K:BB over 50.2 innings in 2023.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Keynan Middleton: Away from camp
Middleton left the Cardinals' camp Thursday to watch his brother play in Oregon's state basketball tournament, John Denton of MLB.com reports. Middleton has served as a part-time coach for his brother's team and arranged for his absence when he signed with the Cardinals in the offseason. He is expected to return to camp Sunday. The 30-year-old reliever has thrown two scoreless innings this spring with one strikeout and is in line to serve in middle relief for the Cardinals in 2024.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Keynan Middleton: Set for live session
Middleton (illness) is scheduled to throw a live batting practice session Wednesday, John Denton of MLB.com reports. Middleton was a late arrival to camp after he battled a stomach bug last week, but the fact that he's taking the mound to face hitters Wednesday suggests he's overcome the illness. After signing a one-year, $5 million contract in free agency, Middleton is projected to be a key part of the late-inning bridge to closer Ryan Helsley in 2024.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Keynan Middleton: Activated from 15-day IL
The Yankees activated Middleton (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Friday. Middleton will return to the Yankees' bullpen for the final weekend of the regular season after missing three weeks due to right shoulder inflammation. He had allowed just one run through 13.1 innings of relief with New York prior to the IL stint.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Keynan Middleton: Likely for weekend return
Middleton (shoulder) is expected to be activated from the injured list for the final weekend of the regular season, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. Middleton got through a bullpen session Wednesday without issue and can log another appearance or two with the Yankees before his 2023 campaign comes to a close. The 30-year-old reliever is scheduled to become a free agent this winter.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Keynan Middleton: Slated for bullpen session
Middleton (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session Tuesday or Wednesday, MLB.com reports. If the reliever's bullpen session goes off without a hitch, he could be activated from the 15-day injured list before the end of the week. Middleton has been on the shelf since early September with right shoulder inflammation.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Keynan Middleton: On track to return on homestand
Middleton (shoulder) is aiming for activation during the Yankees' homestand that begins next week, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. Middleton is eligible to return next Tuesday, and it sounds like he could be ready that day or shortly after. The middle reliever has been sidelined for most of this month with right shoulder inflammation.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Keynan Middleton: Placed on IL
Middleton was placed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday, retroactive to Sept. 3, with right shoulder inflammation. It is evidently something Middleton has been dealing with for a few days, and the Yankees have decided to go ahead and make an IL move. Matt Krook will absorb Middleton's roster and bullpen spot.... Yankees' Keynan Middleton: Traded to Bronx
The Yankees acquired Middleton from the White Sox on Tuesday in exchange for right-hander Juan Carela, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. It's a rather underwhelming move in what has been a quiet deadline for the Yankees, but Middleton should be a solid option in middle relief over the final few months of the season. The 29-year-old right-hander was sporting a 3.96 ERA and 47:16 K:BB through 36.1 innings this season with Chicago.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Keynan Middleton: Logs second save
Middleton struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the save in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Red Sox. Middleton had been in a rough patch with four runs allowed over his last 4.2 innings, but he was sharp Sunday. The right-hander is up to two saves, three holds and a blown save through 29 appearances. He has a 2.33 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 36:10 K:BB over 27 innings while serving primarily as a setup man.... White Sox's Keynan Middleton: Promotion official
The White Sox selected Middleton's contract from Triple-A Charlotte ahead of Monday's game against the Twins. He'll be joining the bullpen as a replacement for Joe Kelly (groin), whom the White Sox placed on the 15-day injured list. A veteran of 154 career big-league appearances, Middleton earned the call-up after a strong start to the season at Charlotte, where he struck out three and allowed three baserunners over three scoreless innings.... White Sox's Keynan Middleton: Added to roster
The White Sox will select Middleton's contract from Triple-A Charlotte on Monday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Middleton had made three scoreless appearances for Charlotte this season before the promotion. The 29-year-old has had trouble finding his footing in the majors over the last three seasons, holding a 5.10 ERA over 60 innings.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Keynan Middleton: Heads to MiLB camp
Middleton was reassigned to minor-league camp by the White Sox on Monday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Middleton inked a minor-league contract back in January but was unable to earn himself a spot on the Opening Day roster. He'll serve as bullpen depth after making 18 appearances a season ago with the Diamondbacks, posting a 5.29 ERA and 1.12 WHIP with a 15:3 K:BB across 17 frames.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Keynan Middleton: Links up with ChiSox
Middleton (toe) signed a minor-league contract with the White Sox on Sunday. Middleton is moving on to a new organization after splitting the 2022 campaign with the Diamondbacks and their Triple-A affiliate in Reno. Before missing the final three weeks of the season with a sprained left big toe, Middleton posted a 5.29 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 15:3 K:BB in 17 innings with Arizona. Presumably back to full health, Middleton could get the chance to compete for a spot in the White Sox's Opening Day bullpen, but he's more likely to open the campaign at Triple-A Charlotte....
