Bregman combined to go 4-for-9 with a home run, two doubles, six RBI, three runs scored and a walk in Sunday's doubleheader against the Cardinals. Bregman went 0-for-4 with a walk in Game 1 but came around to score the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning. He caught fire in Game 2, going 4-for-5 with three extra-base knocks and six RBI, highlighted by his three-run shot in the third inning. Bregman began the season 6-for-26 (.231) with no extra-base hits, but he has since gone 9-for-18 (.500) with seven extra-base hits and 10 RBI over his last four games.... See More ... See Less

Red Sox's Alex Bregman: Breaks out Thursday
Bregman went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer, two doubles, an additional run scored and three total RBI in Thursday's 8-4 victory over the Orioles. After failing to record an extra-base hit in his first six games this season, Bregman picked up three in Thursday's win, including a first-inning homer off Charlie Morton, his first long ball with the Red Sox. The 31-year-old Bregman is now 9-for-31 to start the year after slashing .260/.315/.453 with 26 home runs and 75 RBI in 634 plate appearances during the 2024 regular season with the Astros.... Red Sox's Alex Bregman: Quiet start to season continues
Bregman went 1-for-4 with a strikeout in Wednesday's 3-0 win over Baltimore. Bregman is a quiet 6-for-26 (.231) with zero RBI or extra-base hits to begin his debut season in Boston, which is rather disappointing after he hit .279 with three home runs, three doubles and 10 RBI in 43 at-bats during spring training. Fantasy managers are still in anticipation of the star third baseman's first games this season at Fenway Park, where Bregman is batting a robust .375 (30-for-80) with seven long balls, nine doubles, 15 RBI and 24 runs scored in 21 games for his career at the ballpark.... Red Sox's Alex Bregman: In line to bat third
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Wednesday that he plans to have Jarren Duran, Rafael Devers (shoulders) and Bregman as the top three in his batting order this season, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports. They will be followed by Triston Casas and Trevor Story in the fourth and fifth spots, respectively, at least against right-handers. Bregman has had a terrific spring at the plate with his new club, slashing .391/.467/.826 with a couple home runs.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Alex Bregman: 'Increasingly likely' to open at 3B
Bregman is "increasingly likely" to open the season as the Red Sox's starting third baseman, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. Bregman has yet to play an inning at second base this spring and Rafael Devers (shoulders) has yet to play an inning anywhere, so Bregman handling third base and Devers being used at designated hitter on Opening Day looks to be a safe bet at this point. It would leave Vaughn Grissom, David Hamilton and Kristian Campbell fighting for reps at second base.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Alex Bregman: Homer, steal Friday
Bregman went 2-for-2 with a two-run home run, an additional run scored and a stolen base in Friday's spring game against Miami. The homer was the second of the spring for Bregman, who has been productive in the Grapefruit League. He's batting .471 with four extra-base hits and eight RBI through seven contests. He's started at third base six times (one at DH) and batted second in the order in all outings. Third baseman Rafael Devers (shoulder) is due back this week -- he could debut Tuesday or Wednesday -- but is expected return as the designated hitter. Boston manager Alex Cora has yet to divulge his plans for third base.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Alex Bregman: Boffo debut Sunday
Bregman started at third base and went 3-for-3 with a home run, double and two RBI in Sunday's spring game against the Blue Jays. Bregman's debut in a Boston uniform could not have gone any better. Batting second, he singled in his first at-bat, laced a two-run home run in the second inning, then had a double off the replica Green Monster at JetBlue park. The 30-year-old told Christopher Smith of Mass Live following the game that he worked on his swing mechanics during the offseason. After posting a career-low .768 OPS in 2024, Bregman studied video and noticed his hands were launching from further back over the last few seasons, so he worked to bring his hands inside the frame of his body.... Red Sox's Alex Bregman: Gets in first workout with new team
Bregman (elbow) took part in his first workout with Boston on Saturday, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. After signing a three-year contract earlier in the day, Bregman took batting practice on the back fields and participated in infield drills. He took grounders alongside third baseman Rafael Devers during infield drills, but Red Sox manager Alex Cora was not ready to declare which position Bregman will play in 2025, though the skipper acknowledged that he believes Bregman is capable of developing into a reliable defender at second base. Cora added that Bregman will hit within the top three spots in the order, most likely second or third. Bregman underwent a minor procedure in November to remove a bone spur from his right elbow, but he doesn't appear to be operating with any restrictions during camp.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Alex Bregman: Headed to Boston
Bregman (elbow) signed a three-year, $120 million contract with the Red Sox on Wednesday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Bregman slashed .260/.315/.453 with 26 home runs and 75 RBI across 634 regular-season plate appearances in 2024, giving him the lowest OPS (.768) of his nine-year MLB career. In spite of that, his new contract will pay him nearly double the AAV of the $21.05 million qualifying offer he rejected, and it also includes opt-outs after both of the first two seasons. With Rafael Devers already in Boston, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports that Bregman is expected to move to second base -- a position he has not fielded since 2018. An alternate possibility is having Bregman, who won a gold glove at third base in 2024, play the hot corner and have Devers serve as the primary designated hitter.... See More ... See Less -
Alex Bregman: Rejects qualifying offer
Bregman (elbow) rejected the Astros' one-year, $21.05 million qualifying offer Tuesday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. It's a no-brainer, as Bregman is one of the more sought-after free agents this offseason. He and the Astros are interested in a reunion, and his rejection of the qualifying offer does not impact the odds of that happening. If Bregman does sign elsewhere, Houston will get a draft pick. The third baseman had surgery recently to remove a bone spur from his right elbow but is expected to be 100 percent for spring training.... See More ... See Less -
Alex Bregman: Willing to move to second base
Bregman's (elbow) agent, Scott Boras, said Wednesday that his client is willing to move to second base for a team that signs him in free agency, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports. Bregman just won his first-ever Gold Glove at third base and has made only two career starts at second base, with the most recent of those coming back in 2018. However, the 30-year-old is willing to consider a shift to the keystone in the right situation. Bregman is recovering from surgery to remove a bone spur from his right elbow but is expected to be fully recovered by spring training.... See More ... See Less -
Alex Bregman: Qualifying offer extended by Astros
Houston extended a qualifying offer to Bregman on Monday. Bregman will have until Nov. 19 to accept or reject the qualifying offer, but it's more likely that the 30-year-old third baseman will decline the offer and enter free agency. Bregman was named as a finalist for Silver Slugger Award for his 2024 regular-season performance, during which he slashed .260/.315/.453 with 30 doubles, 26 home runs and 75 RBI across 634 plate appearances.... Astros' Alex Bregman: Sitting Sunday after delay
Bregman was scratched from Sunday's lineup against the Guardians while it was in a rain delay, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. The game had been delayed for almost an hour when the team submitted a new lineup without Bregman, Jose Altuve or Kyle Tucker, as the Astros opted to not risk one of their veterans getting injured in subpar conditions ahead of the playoffs.... Astros' Alex Bregman: Idle Saturday
Bregman isn't in the Astros' lineup for Saturday's game against the Guardians. Bregman will get a day off Saturday following his three-hit performance during Friday's win. Grae Kessinger will get the nod at the hot corner in Bregman's stead.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Alex Bregman: Opens scoring with homer
Bregman went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Mariners. Bregman gave the Astros an early lead with his first-inning homer. He's gone deep three times over his last five games while adding seven RBI and five runs scored in that span. The third baseman is up to 26 homers this season, his most in the last five years. Bregman has added 74 RBI, 79 runs, three stolen bases and a .257/.314/.449 slash line over 143 contests this season.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Alex Bregman: Goes deep in loss
Bregman went 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and three runs scored in Sunday's loss to the Angels. Bregman started the game's scoring with an RBI sacrifice fly in the third inning. He then ripped a two-run shot in the fifth before singling and scoring a run in each of the eighth and ninth innings. Bregman has gone deep twice in his last three games after hitting just two home runs in his previous 17 appearances. He now owns a .758 OPS with 55 extra-base hits and 78 runs scored through 141 games.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Alex Bregman: Pops 24th home run
Bregman went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and three RBI on Friday against the Angels. Bregman missed some time in late August and early September with an elbow injury, and he has struggled to find his rhythm at the plate since. In 57 at-bats since September began, he is hitting just .211. However, Bregman has still managed to provide meaningful counting stats, delivering three homers, nine RBI and eight runs scored in that span.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Alex Bregman: Not in Sunday's lineup
Bregman is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Bregman will receive a day off after a run of seven straight starts, during which he went 6-for-30 with two homers, six RBI and five runs. Mauricio Dubon will receive a look at the hot corner while batting ninth.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Alex Bregman: Goes yard Sunday
Bregman went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Sunday's loss to the Diamondbacks. Bregman got the Astros on the board with a two-run blast off Ryne Nelson in the fourth but was held quiet the rest of the night. The long ball was his first since Aug. 25 and he's now driven in four runs over the last two games after combining for just four RBI total over his previous 15 games. For the year, Bregman is slashing .259/.315/.447 with 22 homers, 65 RBI, 70 runs, three steals and a 38:77 BB:K in 562 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Alex Bregman: Drives in pair
Bregman went 1-for-4 with two RBI and a walk Saturday against Arizona. Bregman didn't hit a ball out of the infield but managed a productive game. He's battled elbow soreness since Aug. 16 and has been in and out of the lineup, though his performance hasn't suffered significantly. Across 13 games and 48 at-bats in that span, Bregman has homered twice with four RBI and four runs scored while hitting .250.... See More ... See Less
