There have been some ups and downs for Ozzie Albies in recent years, but the downs are mostly injury-related. When he's at his best and healthiest, he rates as a legitimate fantasy superstar with his blend of power and overall athleticism. The dynamic second baseman put it all together in 2023, delivering career highs in homers (33) and RBI (109) while tallying 96 runs scored as the primary No. 2 hitter for the runaway National League East champions. He also swiped 13 bases in 14 attempts despite a drop in sprint speed from where he was at his base-stealing peak. Sandwiched again among the likes of Ronald Acuna, Austin Riley, Matt Olson, Marcell Ozuna, Michael Harris and Sean Murphy, Albies should continue to rack up counting stats in bunches in 2024, what will be his age-27 campaign. It's truly remarkable that Atlanta only owes him $7 million annually over the next four seasons.

  • Braves' Ozzie Albies: Could return as soon as Friday

Albies (toe) has begun swinging a bat and could return from the 10-day injured list when first eligible Friday, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. If he's not quite ready to go Friday, his return would likely come soon after. Albies suffered a fractured right great toe when he was hit by a pitch a week ago, but he actually stayed in to finish that game and has made a rapid recovery. Luis Guillorme and David Fletcher have been handling second base for Atlanta in Albies' absence.

  • Braves' Ozzie Albies: Ready for fielding drills

Albies (toe) isn't wearing a protective walking boot Sunday and has been cleared to participate in fielding drills, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. The 27-year-old landed on the injured list Tuesday with a fractured toe, but he needed only a brief period with the walking boot. Albies will be eligible to be reinstated Friday, but he'd need to progress quickly in his rehab work this week in order to have a chance of being activated at that point. A potential return the following week seems more realistic.

  • Braves' Ozzie Albies: Multi-week absence expected

Atlanta manager Brian Snitker indicated Tuesday that Albies (toe) won't require surgery but could be sidelined 2-to-3 weeks, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. Snitker didn't offer an official return timetable for the All-Star second baseman's return from a fractured great toe, but it doesn't appear as though Albies is looking at an extended absence. According to David O'Brien of The Athletic, Albies was in a great deal of pain after he suffered the injury Monday and is now sporting a protective walking boot.

  • Braves' Ozzie Albies: Out with fractured toe

Atlanta placed Albies on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a fractured right great toe. Albies suffered the injury when he was hit by a pitch Monday against the Astros, though he never exited the contest. The 27-year-old will now be sidelined for at least the next 10 days, but the absence could be longer depending how the toe heals. Luis Guillorme and David Fletcher, who was added to the major-league roster Tuesday, are likely to see time at second base while Albies is out.

  • Braves' Ozzie Albies: Could sit out with sore toe

Albies might be held out of Tuesday's lineup after being hit on the toe by a pitch Monday in Houston, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. Albies finished Monday's game but was limping noticeably after the contest and had his foot examined. While he looks to have avoided a serious injury, Albies' status for Tuesday will be determined when he gets to the ballpark and is checked out. If Albies is not able to go Tuesday, Luis Guillorme would likely fill in at second base.

  • Braves' Ozzie Albies: Drives in three Monday

Albies went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, a run scored and three RBI in Monday's loss to the Mets. He brought home the first two runs of the game in the third inning with a double before drawing a bases-loaded walk in the eighth. It's already the third three-RBI performance of the season for Albies, who's batting .289 (11-for-38) through nine games with two homers, one steal, nine runs and 10 RBI.

  • Braves' Ozzie Albies: Hits second homer, drives in three

Albies went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Sunday's loss to the Phillies. Albies opened the game's scoring with a two-run home run off Ranger Suarez in the first inning. He later added a third RBI to his performance when he singled home Jarred Kelenic in the eighth. Albies should continue providing plenty of power at the keystone after smashing 33 home runs last year and now going deep in two straight.

  • Braves' Ozzie Albies: Leads charge in Saturday's win

Albies went 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored, three RBI and a stolen base in Saturday's 12-4 win over the Phillies. The 27-year-old second baseman got the barrage started for Atlanta by socking a two-run homer off Aaron Nola in the first inning for his first long ball of the season. Albies has seen his steals totals dwindle over the last couple years, as he's gone 16-for-22 on the basepaths in 212 games while registering a sprint speed in the 55th percentile in both 2022 and 2023, but even if he never becomes a reliable stolen base threat again, his power and prime placement in one of the league's most potent offenses keep his fantasy floor high.

  • Braves' Ozzie Albies: Pops first spring homer

Albies went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Twins. The second baseman took Chris Paddack deep in the first inning for his first long ball of the spring. Albies has gone 4-for-22 so far in Grapefruit League action with a 2:6 BB:K, but there are no concerns with the 27-year-old as he looks to follow up a big 2023 campaign that saw him set new careers highs with 33 homers and 109 RBI.

Overall, Albies is batting .278 with an .845 OPS, 107 RBI, 92 runs scored and 13 stolen bases across 640 plate appearances this season.

  • Braves' Ozzie Albies: Homers among four hits

Albies went 4-for-6 with a double, home run, four RBI, two runs scored and one steal in Thursday's win over the Nationals. Albies opened the scoring Thursday night for Atlanta with a first-inning RBI double and closed it out with a two-run homer in the ninth. This was the 26-year-old's third four-hit game of the year (first since June 4). Albies has produced a splendid year while bouncing back from last year's injury-riddled 64-game season. He has slashed .274/.328/.509 with 32 homers, 13 steals, 103 RBI and 89 runs over 139 contests.

Albies is not in the lineup for Game 2 of Monday's doubleheader with the Phillies. Albies does not sit much, but with him just a couple weeks removed from a stint on the injured list, he will get a breather Monday night. Nicky Lopez will cover the keystone in place of Albies.

It's Albies' first long ball since returning from the IL in late August, giving him 29 on the season, but he's been locked in at the plate lately, batting .407 (11-for-27) over a six-game hitting streak.

  • Braves' Ozzie Albies: Getting breather Thursday

Albies will be held out of the lineup Thursday against the Dodgers, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. It's a planned day of rest for the 26-year-old second baseman, who just returned Monday from a two-week absence to heal a left hamstring strain. Albies went 5-for-10 with five singles in the final two games of Atlanta's previous series at Colorado. Nicky Lopez is starting at second base and batting ninth Thursday in Los Angeles.

  • Braves' Ozzie Albies: Tallies three hits

Albies went 3-for-5 in Wednesday's 7-3 win over the Rockies. Albies has gone 5-for-16 (.313) with four strikeouts over three games since he returned from a two-week absence with a left hamstring strain. The second baseman's power hasn't come back yet, but his timing at the plate is there. For the season, he's slashing .268/.326/.507 with 28 home runs, 90 RBI, 75 runs scored and 11 stolen bases through 120 contests. Albies has hit second in all three games since returning, bumping Michael Harris back to the bottom of the order.

  • Braves' Ozzie Albies: Batting second in return

Albies (hamstring) will start at second base and bat second in Monday's game against the Rockies. Albies was activated from the 10-day injured list earlier Monday after missing two weeks with a strained left hamstring. He'll step back right into an everyday role in the middle infield and will get a favorable setup this week as Atlanta opens a three-game series in hitter-friendly Coors Field.

  • Braves' Ozzie Albies: Unlikely to return this weekend

Albies (hamstring) has rejoined Atlanta in San Francisco but is not expected to be activated from the injured list this weekend, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Albies is eligible for activation Friday as he works his way back from a left hamstring strain. He's not quite ready yet, though, and the NL East leaders have no incentive to push him. Atlanta continues its road trip next week in Colorado and Los Angeles, and it would appear Albies has a shot to return for one or both of those series.

  • Braves' Ozzie Albies: Not certain for weekend return

Albies (hamstring) isn't certain to be activated from the 10-day injured list this weekend, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. Albies is first eligible to return Friday and is said to be trending well in his recovery from the left hamstring strain that put him on the shelf Aug. 15, but O'Brien hears that the second baseman's status remains a "day-to-day" situation leading into Atlanta's three-game weekend series in San Francisco. Nicky Lopez and Vaughn Grissom continue to share starts at the keystone for the runaway NL East leaders.

  • Braves' Ozzie Albies: Could avoid rehab assignment

Manager Brian Snitker does not believe Albies (hamstring) "will play in a rehab game before being activated," Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. Albies has not encountered any issues since landing on the injured list a little less than a week ago, and as a result he may not need a tune-up before rejoining the big club. He is eligible to be activated by Atlanta this upcoming Friday, Aug. 25.
