  • Mariners' Austin Voth: Gets MLB deal from Seattle

Voth signed a one-year, $1.25 million contract with the Mariners on Wednesday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. The 31-year-old's contract includes a potential additional year of team control in 2025. Voth collected a 5.19 ERA and 34:15 K:BB over 34.2 innings in 2023 with the Orioles. He was used exclusively in relief last season during his time in the majors but has plenty of past starting experience and could operate in a swingman or long-relief role in Seattle.

  • Orioles' Austin Voth: Accepts outright assignment

Voth cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday, Steve Melewski of MASNSports.com reports. Voth is no longer on the Orioles' 40-man roster but has accepted the outright assignment and will join Norfolk's roster as swingman depth. He holds a 5.19 ERA through 34.2 innings in the majors in 2023.

  • Orioles' Austin Voth: DFA'd by O's

The Orioles designated Voth for assignment Sunday. Voth will be pushed off the 40-man roster to clear a spot for Jorge Lopez, who was claimed off waivers from Miami on Saturday. The 31-year-old righty holds a 5.19 ERA and 1.56 WHIP through 34.2 innings, and he will likely remain in the minors for the rest of the year if he goes unclaimed on the waiver wire.

  • Orioles' Austin Voth: Returns from injured list

Voth (elbow) was activated from the 60-day injured list Wednesday, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports. Voth has been on the shelf for more than two months with a sore right elbow, but he's ready to go now after making eight rehab appearances. The righty will give Orioles manager Brandon Hyde a reliever capable of throwing multiple innings.

  • Orioles' Austin Voth: Moving rehab to Triple-A

Voth (elbow) will move up to Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday as he continues his rehab assignment, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports. Voth has been out since mid-June with right elbow discomfort but seems to be nearing a return. The 31-year-old has collected a 4.94 ERA over 23 relief appearances with the Orioles this season.

  • Orioles' Austin Voth: Starts rehab assignment

Voth (elbow) began a rehab assignment with the Orioles' Florida Coast League affiliate Thursday. Voth tossed a perfect inning in his first appearance with the FCL Orioles. It's not clear how many more rehab games he might require before rejoining the O's bullpen. Voth has been out since mid-June with right elbow discomfort.

  • Orioles' Austin Voth: Throwing side sessions

Voth (elbow) has been throwing side sessions at the Orioles' complex in Florida, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports. If all goes according to plan, Voth will begin working in game situations sometime next week. There's still no telling how long it will be before Voth returns to Baltimore's bullpen, but he seems to be at least a few weeks out. The 31-year-old righty has been on the injured list since June 14 with right elbow discomfort.

  • Orioles' Austin Voth: Plays catch Monday

Voth (elbow) resumed throwing Monday on flat ground, Danielle Allentuck of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports. Voth entered into a rest and treatment period when he hit the 15-day injured list in mid-June due to elbow discomfort, but he's on the right track again and could perhaps return to the Orioles' bullpen before the All-Star break. He had registered a 4.94 ERA and 31:14 K:BB across 31 innings of relief prior to the IL stint.

  • Orioles' Austin Voth: Shut down for one week

Voth (elbow) was given anti-inflammatories Thursday and will be shut down for one week, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Voth landed on the injured list Wednesday with right elbow inflammation, an issue which has apparently been bothering him since spring training, per Kubatko. The Orioles seem confident the injury is minor, and Voth could be back after spending the 15-day minumum on the shelf.

  • Orioles' Austin Voth: Shelved with elbow discomfort

The Orioles placed Voth on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with right elbow discomfort. Voth will be shut down after he recorded just one out while allowing two earned runs on three hits and one walk in a relief appearance in Tuesday's 11-6 win over the Blue Jays. The Orioles will presumably send Voth in for further testing to determine whether he's dealing with an elbow strain or anything more severe than soreness or inflammation. Baltimore called up right-hander Reed Garrett from Triple-A Norfolk to take Voth's spot in the bullpen.

  • Orioles' Austin Voth: Takes extra-inning loss

Voth (1-2) allowed an unearned run on a hit and a walk with one strikeout in two-thirds of an inning, taking the extra-inning loss Tuesday versus the Brewers. Voth was called on for another short assignment Tuesday, his second since serving as a primary pitcher May 31 versus the Guardians. This one didn't go particularly well, and he has now given up six runs (four earned) over nine innings across his last five appearances. The Orioles haven't revealed their rotation for this weekend's series versus the Royals -- it's still possible Voth could make a start or serve as a bulk reliever in one of those three games. There's also a chance Baltimore recalls Cole Irvin, who has pitched to a 3.21 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 22:4 K:BB over 42 innings at Triple-A Norfolk. Irvin hasn't pitched for the Tides since May 31, and the affiliate's pitching plans beyond Wednesday are yet to be determined. Voth would likely return to the bullpen full-time if Irvin were promoted.

  • Orioles' Austin Voth: Makes relief appearance

Voth struck out one in a perfect inning of relief during Sunday's 8-3 win over the Giants. Voth made his last appearance versus Cleveland in a bulk relief role, but Baltimore is skipping his turn in the rotation thanks to days off last Thursday and this Monday. This was his first scoreless outing in his last four appearances. Voth has been more effective as a reliever, and he may still follow an opener in his next game, which is tentatively scheduled to come over the weekend at home versus the Royals. As such, Sunday's appearance seems to be just to keep him on schedule. He has a 4.55 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 29:10 K:BB through 29.2 innings.

  • Orioles' Austin Voth: Struggles in primary role

Voth allowed three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out three over 2.1 innings Wednesday versus the Guardians. He did not factor in the decision. Voth has served as a long reliever for much of the season, but he was tabbed for a primary-pitcher assignment behind opener Keegan Akin in this contest. It didn't go very well, as Voth struggled in the third and fourth innings, and the rest of the Orioles' bullpen didn't fare much better. Over 14 innings in May, Voth pitched to a respectable 3.86 ERA with a 1.50 WHIP. He's at a 4.71 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 28:10 K:BB through 28.2 innings overall. He's tentatively scheduled to pitch next week in Milwaukee if he continues to fill the fifth-starter role opened up by Grayson Rodriguez's demotion to Triple-A Norfolk. Voth could also end up back in the bullpen if the Orioles opt to give Cole Irvin another chance in the rotation soon.

  • Orioles' Austin Voth: Serving as bulk reliever

Voth will serve as a bulk reliever behind opening pitcher Keegan Akin in Wednesday's game against the Guardians, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports. Though the Orioles are bypassing him for a start, Voth will still effectively be taking the rotation spot of Grayson Rodriguez, who was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk last week. In his most recent relief outing five days ago against the Rangers, Voth covered 3.2 innings, so he should be able to provide the Orioles with a decent amount of length out of the bullpen.

  • Orioles' Austin Voth: Joining rotation Wednesday

Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said Voth will either start or serve as a bulk reliever in Wednesday's game versus the Guardians, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. The rotation spot had previously been occupied by Grayson Rodriguez, who was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk over the weekend. All 18 of Voth's appearances this season have been in relief, although he has plenty of past starting experience and went 3.2 innings in his last outing May 26.

  • Orioles' Austin Voth: Awarded win Sunday

Voth (1-1) walked two and struck out two over two scoreless and hitless innings, earning the win Sunday over the Tigers. This was just the third time in 10 appearances this season that Voth wasn't changed with a run. All three of his scoreless efforts have come over his last four outings. The right-hander has a 5.52 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 14:4 K:BB across 14.2 innings as a low-leverage reliever this year. He's also picked up two holds. Voth's biggest problem has been home runs -- he gave up five long balls over his first five appearances but has since kept the ball in the yard.

  • Orioles' Austin Voth: Role not yet defined

Voth's experience as a reliever could lead to him starting 2023 in the bullpen, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. Voth started 17 of his 41 appearances between the Nationals and the Orioles last season, with most of his success coming in Baltimore. With a crowded competition for the rotation, it would make sense for the Orioles to move the 30-year-old to the bullpen at the start of the campaign. He would likely fill a long-relief role with the ability to make spot starts since he's stretching out in camp.

  • Orioles' Austin Voth: Avoids arb with '24 club option

Voth has avoided arbitration with the Orioles and signed a one-year contract Thursday, which includes a club option for 2024. Voth will be guaranteed $1.85 million with this new deal, and the 2024 option is worth $2.45 million with escalators that could add another $500,000. The 30-year-old right-hander struggled out of the gate last season with Washinton before moving on to Baltimore and registering a sharp 3.04 ERA with 72 strikeouts in 17 starts and five relief appearances covering 83 innings. He projects to operate in a swingman role again for the O's in 2023, shuffling between long relief and emergency starting/opening duties.

  • Orioles' Austin Voth: Allows two homers in loss

Voth (5-4) took the loss against the Yankees on Saturday, allowing four runs on seven hits while walking two over five innings. He struck out three. Voth didn't do himself any favors on Saturday, hitting Aaron Judge with a pitch to lead off the first before giving up three runs in the inning, including a solo shot to Giancarlo Stanton. The right-hander served up another solo homer in the second and also hit Anthony Rizzo with a pitch. It was the first time this season that Voth allowed more than one home run in a game and only the second time that he allowed more than three earned runs. He's now lost three of his last four decisions.

  • Orioles' Austin Voth: Strikes out six in no-decision

Voth allowed one run on four hits over five innings against the Astros on Sunday. He struck out six and did not factor in the decision. Voth coughed up one run in the third inning and was in line to take a tough-luck loss before the Orioles forced extra innings. After producing a brutal 10.13 ERA in 19 appearances with the Nationals this season, the 30-year-old righty has produced a 2.77 ERA with a 69:23 K:BB through 78 innings as an Oriole. Voth has given up two or fewer runs in nine straight appearances. He's lined up for a road start against the Yankees next week.
