Mookie Betts would've easily captured his second career MVP award in 2023 if not for the bonkers season Ronald Acuna put up. The 31-year-old's .307 average, 39 home runs, 126 runs scored and 14 stolen bases were all highs during his time as a Dodger and his 107 RBI broke a major-league record for a leadoff hitter. Not only that, Betts further added to his defensive versatility, starting nearly as many games at second base (62) as he did in right field (77) while also adding his first career 12 starts at shortstop. He fell just shy of retaining shortstop eligibility, but Betts will enter 2024 with dual eligibility and is expected to be the Dodgers' regular at the keystone. You can make a strong argument for Betts being the second pick in fantasy drafts after Acuna.

  • Dodgers' Mookie Betts: Swipes two bags in loss

Betts went 1-for-2 with three walks, a double, a run scored and two stolen bases in Saturday's 6-4 loss to the Mets. The 31-year-old was excellent once again out of the leadoff spot, but the rest of the Dodgers' order had trouble bringing him around to score. Betts has failed to get on base only twice in 23 games to begin the season, and he boasts a .356/.473/.644 slash line with six homers, five steals, 18 RBI and an MLB-leading 23 runs.

  • Dodgers' Mookie Betts: Nabs majors' first five-hit game

Betts went 5-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs Tuesday in the Dodgers' 6-2 win over the Nationals. Betts produced the majors' first five-hit game of the season Tuesday and matched his previous career high for hits in a game, raising his batting average to an MLB-best .388 in the process. Though the Dodgers' 12-8 start to the season is somewhat disappointing given the immense talent on the roster, Betts and Shohei Ohtani (1.019 OPS) are doing their part in the top two spots in the lineup. Betts has still been able to rack up 22 runs and 18 RBI through 20 games, even while No. 3 hitter Freddie Freeman (.788 OPS) has yet to really get going at the plate.

  • Dodgers' Mookie Betts: Tallies three hits in victory

Betts went 3-for-5 with two RBI in Saturday's 5-2 win over San Diego. Betts plated Los Angeles' first run with a fourth-inning single and came through again with a run-scoring base knock in the sixth. The star outfielder-turned-infielder finished with his sixth multi-hit game of the campaign. Betts has reached base via hit or walk in all but one of his 17 contests this season and is slashing .364/.488/.712 with six homers, 16 RBI, 20 runs, two stolen bases and a 16:12 BB:K.

  • Dodgers' Mookie Betts: Belts sixth homer Friday

Betts went 1-for-6 with a three-run home run in Friday's extra-innings loss to the Padres. Betts made the most of his only hit in the contest, smashing a 409-foot blast in the second inning to plate three runs. The long ball pushed Betts back into a tie for the major-league lead with six on the campaign. He's also tied for seventh in MLB with 14 RBI and leads the league with 20 runs scored and 16 walks.

  • Dodgers' Mookie Betts: Plays in 10th game at shortstop

Betts made his 10th appearance of the season at shortstop in Monday's game against the Twins. It's a notable number because it means Betts will now have shortstop eligibility if your fantasy league uses a 10-game in-season threshold. Betts, of course, already has second base and outfield eligibility, as well. The 31-year-old is slashing a robust .375/.508/.792 with five home runs and two stolen bases in the early going.

  • Dodgers' Mookie Betts: Belts homer No. 5

Betts went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored during Tuesday's win over the Giants. Betts' bat continues to be one of the best in baseball, as he mashed his league-leading fifth home run of the campaign. He sits comfortably atop the league in hits (15) with the next-closest players a full three hits behind, and he has 14 more total bases than any other player. While his ridiculous .500/.605/1.167 slash line is certain to regress at some point, fantasy managers have to be thrilled with what they're getting from the six-time All-Star early on.

  • Dodgers' Mookie Betts: Remains scorching hot

Betts went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, a double, two walks and three total runs in Saturday's extra-inning loss to the Cardinals. Betts is on an absolute heater to begin the campaign, as he's homered in four straight contests and has reached base an absurd 18 times through 25 plate appearances. His long ball Saturday came in the clutch, pulling the Dodgers to within one run in the ninth inning against Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley. Betts is already paying huge dividends for fantasy managers who made a big investment in him in fantasy drafts -- he leads all players in homers (four), RBI (10) and walks (seven) while posting an astronomical 2.109 OPS through the Dodgers' first five games.

  • Dodgers' Mookie Betts: Homers again Friday

Betts went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Friday's 6-3 win over the Cardinals. Betts got the Dodgers started early Friday, belting his third home run of the season off Zack Thompson to lead off the bottom of the first inning. The 31-year-old Betts is off to a torrid start this season, going 8-for-14 with four extra-base hits and nine RBI through four games. He looks poised for a massive season while leading off in front of Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman.

  • Dodgers' Mookie Betts: Belts second homer

Betts went 1-for-2 with a solo home run, two walks and three total runs in Thursday's 7-1 win over St. Louis. Betts had a big two-game series against the Padres in Seoul, Korea, to kick off the regular season, and he carried his hot bat over to the Dodgers' domestic home opener. The outfielder-turned-shortstop launched a solo shot off Miles Mikolas in the third inning and reached base two additional times via walks. Through three contests, Betts is slashing a scorching .636/.733/1.273 with two homers, eight RBI, four walks and five runs.

  • Dodgers' Mookie Betts: Drives in six runs in loss

Betts went 4-for-5 with a home run, a double, a walk, two total runs and six total RBI in Thursday's loss to San Diego in the second game of the Seoul Series. The Padres built an early 9-2 lead before Betts almost single-handedly brought the Dodgers back into contention with a two-run double in the third inning, a two-run homer in the fifth and a two-run single in the eighth. Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com, the six RBI were his most in a game since 2017 and tied for the third-most in any game in his career. Betts is off to a fast start in his 11th big-league campaign -- during the season-opening two-game set in South Korea, Betts went 6-for-9 with seven total RBI.

  • Dodgers' Mookie Betts: Moving to shortstop

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Friday that Betts will be the team's shortstop moving forward, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. Roberts referred to the move as "permanent, for now." Betts and Gavin Lux are flip-flopping infield positions due to the latter's defensive issues at shortstop. Betts did start 12 games at shortstop last season, so the position isn't totally foreign to him, but he's been an outfielder for the overwhelming majority of his career so asking him to become a full-time shortstop at 31 years old is ambitious. For fantasy purposes, Betts will pick up a third position of eligibility early on this season.

  • Dodgers' Mookie Betts: Playing 2B exclusively this spring

Betts said Thursday that he expects to play second base exclusively this spring, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports. Betts even joked that he didn't bring his right fielder's glove to spring training. While the 31-year-old undoubtedly could return to right field if a need arises there, this emphasizes the point that the Dodgers are committed to Betts as a full-time second baseman. Betts made 62 starts at the keystone in 2023, more than doubling his career total coming into the year.

  • Dodgers' Mookie Betts: Staying at leadoff spot in 2024

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts announced Feb. 3 at the team's Fan Fest event that Betts will remain the team's leadoff hitter in 2024, Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com reports. Roberts' announcement doesn't come as a major surprise after Betts hit leadoff in all 151 of his starts in 2023 on his way to finishing second in the National League MVP balloting while slashing .307/.408/.579 with 39 home runs, 107 RBI, 126 runs and 14 stolen bases. His run total was good for fourth in baseball last season, and if health prevails, Betts could have a chance at besting his previous career high of 135 runs during the 2024 campaign. He'll be batting in front of Freddie Freeman and free-agent pickup Shohei Ohtani (elbow), whom Roberts confirmed would hit second and third, respectively. Freeman had already hit regularly out of the two hole in 2023, while Ohtani should represent an upgrade in the No. 3 spot over catcher Will Smith, who made 88 starts out of that lineup spot last season. In addition to the arrival of Ohtani, Betts' fantasy appeal should also get a boost by virtue of having eligibility at both outfield and second base, something he didn't have in most fantasy leagues to begin the 2023 season. Roberts previously said earlier in the offseason that Betts will be a full-time second baseman in 2024 after moving between both the infield and outfield last season.

  • Dodgers' Mookie Betts: Will be everyday second baseman

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Monday in an interview on MLB Network that Betts will be the team's everyday second baseman in 2024. The Dodgers had confirmed previously that Betts was going to play extensively at the keystone again during the upcoming season, but Roberts' statement Monday was more definitive in that second base will be the 31-year-old's regular spot in the field. Betts made 107 appearances in right field and 70 appearances at second base in 2023, in addition to 16 appearances at shortstop. Though Roberts indicated that Betts will still see the occasional start in right field versus left-handed pitching, he looks like he'll mostly be on the dirt moving forward. Jason Heyward is slated to draw most of the starts in right field when the Dodgers face righties.

  • Dodgers' Mookie Betts: Will continue to see starts at 2B

Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes said Wednesday that Betts will play a lot of second base next year, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. Betts made 62 starts at second base in 2023 and showed well, so the Dodgers are comfortable making that a regular thing moving forward. Gomes also noted within the same conversation Wednesday that Miguel Vargas and Michael Busch might have to transition to the corner outfield in order to carve out significant playing time at the MLB level.

  • Dodgers' Mookie Betts: On bench for nightcap

Betts is not in the lineup for the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader at Colorado. Betts will grab a breather after going 2-for-5 with two singles and a stolen base in the early tilt at Coors Field. Kolten Wong is covering second base for the Dodgers in the nightcap as Enrique Hernandez patrols right field.

  • Dodgers' Mookie Betts: Makes history with two RBI

Betts went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two walks, two runs and two RBI in a 7-0 win over the Giants on Saturday. When Betts doubled in a pair of runs in the seventh inning, it gave him 105 RBI on the campaign, establishing a new single-season MLB record for runs batted in by a leadoff hitter. The previous mark was held by Charlie Blackmon, who knocked in 103 runs with the Rockies in 2017. Betts is enjoying an MVP-caliber campaign for the NL West champion Dodgers, complementing the RBI mark with a .309/.411/.593 slash line along with a career-high 39 homers, 40 doubles, 125 runs and 13 stolen bases.

  • Dodgers' Mookie Betts: Tallies three hits

Betts went 3-for-5 with a run scored in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Tigers. Betts had gone 3-for-18 over his previous five games, though he added five walks and two stolen bases in that span. After being hampered by a foot injury earlier in the month, Betts is now 12-for-49 (.245) through 14 contests in September. He's still slashing an impressive .311/.410/.596 with 39 home runs, 103 RBI, 123 runs scored and 13 stolen bases through 141 games overall.

  • Dodgers' Mookie Betts: Gets off day

Betts is out of the lineup Sunday versus the Mariners. Betts will get the day off after the Dodgers clinched the division Saturday. This will be just the seventh game the 30-year-old does not play in if he does not come off the bench. Kolten Wong will start at second base, and Chris Taylor will hit in the MVP candidate's usual leadoff spot.

  • Dodgers' Mookie Betts: Records two steals in loss

Betts went 1-for-2 with a walk and two stolen bases in Wednesday's 6-1 loss to the Padres. Betts has hit .233 (7-for-30) with nine walks and three steals over 10 games in September. The superstar's 13 steals for the season represent his most in a campaign since he swiped 16 bags in 2019. Betts has added a .312/.412/.607 slash line with 39 home runs, 103 RBI, 120 runs scored, 37 doubles and a triple over 137 contests.
