Renfroe isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against Detroit. Renfroe is slashing just .130/.231/.152 on the season and has seen his playing time diminish recently as a result. He'll step aside again Saturday so Maikel Garcia can start in right field while Michael Massey covers second base, putting Salvador Perez at DH and Freddy Fermin behind the plate.... See More ... Royals' Hunter Renfroe: Sitting again versus righty
Renfroe is not in the lineup for Thursday's tilt in Detroit. Renfroe has now started only three of the last nine games against right-handed pitching and hasn't started consecutive contests over that span. Cavan Biggio will patrol right field and hit seventh for Kansas City.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Hunter Renfroe: On bench again Wednesday
Renfroe is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees. Renfroe is out of the lineup against a right-hander for the third time in four games after an 0-for-3 performance in Tuesday's 4-2 loss brought his season-long batting line down to .119/.213/.143 over 47 plate appearances. Since Renfroe has yet to turn the corner offensively, the Royals will likely continue to give opportunities to Cavan Biggio and Drew Waters in right field as they look to see whether either player can offer more of a boost to the offense.... Royals' Hunter Renfroe: Getting night off
Renfroe is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Yankees. Renfroe cracked the starting nine in eight of the Royals' first 10 contests, but his hold on a near-everyday role could be slipping. He hasn't started consecutive games since April 6 and 7 while he's gotten off to a miserable start to the season, as he's slashing just .128/.209/.154 with a 27.9 percent strikeout rate over 43 plate appearances. Cavan Biggio will replace Renfroe in right field Monday.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Hunter Renfroe: Not starting Saturday
Renfroe isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Guardians. Renfroe has gotten off to a poor start this season, slashing just .143/.231/.171 across 39 plate appearances through 11 games. He'll get another day off to regroup Saturday, and his absence will open up a spot in the lineup for Cavan Biggio to start at first base while batting sixth.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Hunter Renfroe: Absent from lineup
Renfroe is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest against the Twins. It's a routine day off for Renfroe, who is sporting a lowly .416 OPS across his first 10 games of the season. The Royals are going with Cavan Biggio in right field and in the fifth spot in the lineup for Thursday's series finale.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Hunter Renfroe: On bench Tuesday
Renfroe is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Twins. Renfroe started eight of Kansas City's first 10 games of the season but has gone 5-for-29 with three walks, a double and nine strikeouts in 32 plate appearances. MJ Melendez will shift to right field while Mark Canha receives a start in left.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Hunter Renfroe: Sitting Friday
Renfroe is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Orioles. The 33-year-old is off to a slow start and will begin Friday's series opener on the bench, as Cavan Biggio is in the lineup at designated hitter with MJ Melendez in right field. Renfroe is 2-for-18 at the plate with one double, three RBI, three walks and six strikeouts through five games this season.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Hunter Renfroe: Idle Saturday
Renfroe is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Guardians. Renfroe went 0-for-4 with a strikeout on Opening Day and will now step out of the lineup Saturday. His absence will open up a spot in the lineup for Cavan Biggio to bat eighth while covering first base.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Hunter Renfroe: Feeling good despite slow spring
Renfroe is hitting just .188 (3-for-16) with a home run this spring, but he says a return to full health has been his priority after a back injury, a broken left toe and right hamstring strain slowed him last season, MLB.com reports. "It was a big issue," Renfroe said. "Toward the middle part of the season, some things popped up. And that led to lower back, hamstring. It's all connected. But it feels good now. I was hoping that when I started up this offseason that I wouldn't feel it, and I didn't, which was great." Renfroe had a disappointing 2024 season by hitting just .229 with 15 home runs and a .689 OPS over 120 regular-season games. His performance this spring isn't inspiring confidence that he'll have a bounceback season, but he appears set for an everyday role in right field.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Hunter Renfroe: Sticking with Royals
Renfroe exercised his $7.6 million player option for the 2025 season Thursday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. The veteran outfielder began the season as the starting right fielder for the Royals, though his role shrunk after the acquisitions of Tommy Pham and Robbie Grossman. Renfroe's primary shortcoming was a lack of power, as he posted a career-low .163 ISO across 424 plate appearances. Pham is entering free agency, which could give Renfroe a shot to start again entering 2025.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Hunter Renfroe: Reaches 15-homer mark
Renfroe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 4-2 win over Atlanta. Renfroe has homered in two of his last three games, giving him 15 long balls on the year. It's his lowest power output in any season in which he's played at least 100 games. The veteran outfielder has added 52 RBI, 44 runs scored, one stolen base, 18 doubles and a .229/.297/.392 slash line over 120 contests. He enters the postseason in a timeshare with Tommy Pham and Adam Frazier for playing time in right field.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Hunter Renfroe: Lifts 14th homer
Renfroe went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Thursday's 7-4 win over the Nationals. Renfroe tied the game at 1-1 with his second-inning blast. The veteran outfielder has gone 8-for-44 (.182) with two homers and four RBI over 14 games since he returned from a hamstring injury. He's now at a .230/.300/.389 slash line with 14 homers, 51 RBI, 43 runs scored, one stolen base and 18 doubles through 118 contests. With Tommy Pham and Adam Frazier also in the mix for playing time in right field, Renfroe is likely to remain in a part-time role to close out the regular season.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Hunter Renfroe: On bench again
Renfroe is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Giants. Renfroe will sit for a second straight contest, with Adam Frazier filling right field Saturday. Renfroe has one hit in his last 16 at-bats and is slashing .232/.303/.387 on the year.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Hunter Renfroe: Losing work
Renfroe is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates. Renfroe will hit the bench for the third time in four matchups with a right-handed starting pitcher (Jared Jones). The 32-year-old is slashing a modest .237/.308/.397 over 393 plate appearances on the season and looks like he could have to settle for a part-time role down the stretch.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Hunter Renfroe: Not starting Saturday
Renfroe isn't in Kansas City's lineup Saturday versus the Pirates. Renfroe will get a breather Saturday after going 0-for-4 in Friday's victory, snapping a four-game hitting streak that began when he returned from the injured list. While Renfroe sits, Adam Frazier will patrol right field while Tommy Pham serves as the DH.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Hunter Renfroe: Resting Wednesday
Renfroe is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees. Renfroe will head to the bench for the series finale in New York after he had picked up starts at either designated hitter or in right field in each of the past three contests while going 3-for-12 with a solo home run. Tommy Pham will cover right field Wednesday, while Adam Frazier gets a turn as the Royals' DH.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Hunter Renfroe: Pops homer in loss
Renfroe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 10-4 loss to the Yankees. Renfroe has gone 4-for-12 with three RBI over three games since he returned from a hamstring strain he suffered in late August. The outfielder has made all three of his starts in right field since his return, pushing Tommy Pham to left field or designated hitter more regularly. For the year, Renfroe is at a .240/.313/.405 slash line with 13 homers, 50 RBI, 42 runs scored and a stolen base across 107 contests.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Hunter Renfroe: Starting rehab assignment
Renfroe (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Wednesday. Renfroe went through a full workout Tuesday and will now test himself in a game setting. The 32-year-old could require just one rehab contest, as he is poised to rejoin the Royals' active roster this weekend if all goes well. Renfroe has been shelved since late August with a right hamstring strain.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Hunter Renfroe: Could return this weekend
Renfroe (hamstring) hit on the field and ran the bases at Kauffman Stadium on Monday, MLB.com reports. The Royals have yet to decide whether Renfroe will go out on a rehab assignment, but regardless, he is tracking toward a return from the 10-day injured list as soon as this weekend, just a few days after he's first eligible for activation. Renfroe has seen virtually all of his playing time this season in right field, but with Tommy Pham recently being added to the roster and with Vinnie Pasquantino (thumb) out for the season, the Royals could consider using Renfroe some at first base, where he has a bit of experience....
