  • Orioles' Ronald Guzman: Reports for camp

Guzman (visa issues) reported to the Orioles' camp Sunday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Guzman was absent for the start of camp due to visa issues but didn't end up missing significant time. The first baseman-turned-pitcher signed with the Orioles on a minor-league deal in January and is all but guaranteed to begin the season in the minors given his lack of pitching experience.

  • Orioles' Ronald Guzman: Waiting on visa

Guzman has yet to report to Orioles camp due to visa issues, Danielle Allentuck of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports. The first baseman-turned-pitcher joined Baltimore on a minor-league deal in January and is attending big-league camp as a non-roster invitee. Guzman, who missed most of the 2023 season while recovering from a forearm strain, appears to be fully healthy after he made two relief appearances in the Dominican Winter League.

  • Orioles' Ronald Guzman: Receives minors deal from Orioles

Guzman signed a minor-league contract with the Orioles on Thursday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. A former first baseman, Guzman converted to pitcher last year but wound up missing the season with a forearm injury. He returned to make a couple appearances in the Dominican Winter League, and the Orioles have elected to take a shot on the left-hander.

  • Ronald Guzman: Let go

Guzman (forearm) was released by the Giants, per the MiLB's transaction log. Guzman was sent out on a rehab assignment Aug. 19 to the ACL Giants, and he was released one week later. The first baseman had been working his way back from a left forearm strain.

  • Giants' Ronald Guzman: Expects to miss 6-to-8 weeks

Guzman (forearm) said Tuesday that he expects to miss 6-to-8 weeks, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Guzman had been making a surprisingly-solid case for a spot in the Giants' bullpen before he suffered a pronator strain in his left forearm over the weekend. The former slugger will be in no-throw mode for the next four weeks and is probably going to have to prove his health -- and his stuff -- for a good while in the minors once he's deemed fit to return to the mound.

  • Giants' Ronald Guzman: Diagnosed with pronator strain

Guzman was diagnosed Tuesday with a pronator strain in his left forearm, Evan Webeck of the San Jose Mercury News reports. Guzman will not require surgery, but this injury is going to put a hard pause on his pursuit of a relief role in San Francisco. The 28-year-old former first baseman had been impressing with high-90s velocity this spring. There's no exact recovery timetable at the moment.

  • Giants' Ronald Guzman: Getting MRI

Guzman (forearm) is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. Guzman has impressed this spring as the Giants try him out as a two-way player, but he exited Sunday's Cactus League appearance with forearm discomfort. Even if the injury winds up being relatively minor, it likely eliminates what already slim chances Guzman had to make the roster.

  • Giants' Ronald Guzman: Suffers forearm injury

Guzman suffered a left forearm injury in Sunday's spring game, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. This is a big blow to Guzman's hopes of winning a bullpen spot in spring training. The former first baseman turned two-way player exited after airmailing a pitch and generally struggling with his control in the outing. He should be considered out indefinitely and should head to Triple-A when healthy.

  • Giants' Ronald Guzman: Exits with injury

Guzman exited Sunday's spring training game with an apparent injury, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. A two-way player who used to be solely a first baseman, Guzman doubled over on the mound after airmailing a pitch in Sunday's outing and had generally struggled to locate his pitches prior to suffering the injury. His best bet to have a big-league career at this point is likely as a reliever, but this injury could dash any hopes of making the roster out of camp.

  • Giants' Ronald Guzman: Will get chance to pitch in 2023

Guzman was listed as a two-way player by the Giants on their list of spring training invites, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. Guzman signed a minor-league contract with the Giants in the middle of January, and has spent the overwhelming bulk of his time as a professional at first base. The left-handed thrower appeared in one game as a reliever with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre as a member of the Yankees' organization in 2022, and reportedly can get his fastball into the mid-to-high 90s. It's unlikely that Guzman will hit or pitch well enough to be relevant in fantasy leagues in 2023, but it will be fun to see him attempt to do both in the Cactus League.

  • Giants' Ronald Guzman: Lands contract with Giants

Guzman signed a minor-league contract with the Giants on Thursday. Guzman, 28, got a cup of coffee with the Yankees last season but spent the bulk of the year at their Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre affiliate. He's a career .225/.302/.410 hitter over parts of five major-league seasons.

  • Ronald Guzman: Parts ways with Yankees

Guzman elected free agency Monday. Guzman chose to explore the open market one day after the Yankees' season came to an end with New York losing to Houston in the American League Championship Series. The 28-year-old first baseman last saw big-league action with the Yankees in September and went 0-for-6 with five strikeouts in three contests with the team before being outrighted off the 40-man roster.

  • Yankees' Ronald Guzman: Clears waivers

The Yankees outrighted Guzman to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday. Guzman will remain in the Yankees organization after going unclaimed off waivers when New York designated him for assignment Saturday. He was up with the big club for less than a week, going 0-for-6 with five strikeouts across three games before being cast off the 40-man roster.

  • Yankees' Ronald Guzman: Cast off 40-man roster

Guzman was designated for assignment by the Yankees on Saturday, Marly Rivera of ESPN.com reports. Guzman was out of the lineup for the last three games, and he'll lose his spot on the 40-man roster after Josh Donaldson was reinstated from the paternity list Saturday. It's possible that Guzman reports to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre if he goes unclaimed on waivers.

  • Yankees' Ronald Guzman: Sitting Friday

Guzman will sit Friday versus the Rays. Guzman started Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Twins, going 0-for-5 with four strikeouts, but he will now sit for a third game in a row. Marwin Gonzalez will start at first base and bat ninth in the series opener.

  • Yankees' Ronald Guzman: Promoted, batting cleanup in Game 1

The Yankees selected Guzman's contract from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre ahead of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Twins, Justin Shackil of WFAN Sports Radio 66 New York reports. He'll start at first base and bat cleanup in the first game of the twin bill, according to Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record. With Anthony Rizzo (head) going on the 10-day injured list Tuesday and Josh Donaldson (personal) landing on the paternity list Wednesday, the Yankees could have an everyday role available for Guzman in the corner infield in the short term. The 27-year-old, who saw action in seven big-league games with the Rangers in 2021, has spent the 2022 campaign exclusively with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. In 322 plate appearances at Triple-A, Guzman has slashed .260/.357/.466 with 12 home runs and 39 RBI.

  • Yankees' Ronald Guzman: Call-up imminent

The Yankees plan to select Guzman's contract from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports. Guzman would have been called up Tuesday had the Yankees' matchup with the Twins not been postponed, but he will have to wait one more day. Guzman recently began pitching, but with fellow first baseman Anthony Rizzo (back) landing on the injured list, he will likely be limited to hitting in his latest stint in the big leagues.

  • Yankees' Ronald Guzman: Pitching and hitting at Triple-A

Guzman is attempting to become a two-way player at Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre, Conor Foley of The Scranton Times-Tribune reports. A former first baseman with the Rangers, Guzman has now been pulling double duty for two months at the highest level of the Yankees' farm system. He is slashing .379/.456/.655 since the start of July and boasts a mid-90s fastball and promising slider on the mound. Guzman turns 28 in October, so his dominance as a hitter of late can be taken with a grain of salt -- he has just a 101 wRC+ on the season. While this is a fun story, it seems unlikely to lead to much fantasy significance.

  • Yankees' Ronald Guzman: Heads to Triple-A

Guzman was assigned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday. Guzman returned from knee surgery this spring but didn't have much time to make his claim for a roster spot, as he's only appeared in four games. He'll try to make his case in the minors for now, but his .227/.304/.414 slash line in 243 career games at the highest level isn't close to good enough for a first baseman.

  • Yankees' Ronald Guzman: Makes recovery from knee surgery

Guzman (knee) will serve as the Yankees' designated hitter and bat eighth in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Tigers, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports. Guzman will be picking up his second start of the spring, after he went 0-for-2 while playing first base in Saturday's 10-9 loss to the Blue Jays. He'll shift into a non-defensive role Monday, but Guzman's ability to play first base over the weekend without incident suggests he's made a full recovery from surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee. The injury limited him to just seven appearances for Texas in 2021 before he was shut down for good in late April, and though he's now healthy, Guzman will likely face an uphill battle to make it back to the majors early on in 2022. He doesn't possess a spot on the Yankees' 40-man roster and is expected to open the season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
