Although he came out of the gate slowly, Eddie Rosario ultimately had a nice bounce-back showing in 2023 in his first full season after eye surgery, returning to the 20-homer plateau for the first time since 2019 while also driving in 74 runs. The consistency was lacking, as the 32-year-old had a 1.115 OPS in June and a .942 OPS in August but didn't even reach the .700 mark any of the other four months. He also rarely started when the opposition had a lefty on the mound. Atlanta decided against picking up Rosario's $9 million option for 2024, so he's looking for a new home. Given how prolific Atlanta's offense was in 2023, Rosario will be facing a downtick in team context virtually anywhere he winds up, although it's possible his new club won't platoon him so strictly. In any case, Rosario figures to be a borderline and fairly boring mixed-league option.

  • Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Added to big-league roster

The Nationals selected Rosario to the major-league roster Sunday. The 32-year-old was deemed the favorite to start in left field shortly after signing a split contract with Washington in early March, so it's not a major surprise he's made the Opening Day roster. Rosario went just 3-for-18 in seven spring games but was reasonably productive in Atlanta last season with 21 homers and a .755 OPS in 516 plate appearances.

  • Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Reassigned to Triple-A

The Nationals reassigned Rosario to Triple-A Rochester on Saturday, Spencer Nusbaum of the Washington Post reports. Nusbaum notes that the move is a procedural one, and that the Nationals have until noon Sunday to add Rosario to the 40-man roster. Rosario joined Washington on a split contract March 6, and the outfielder would earn up to $4 million if he makes the major-league roster and earns all of his incentives. He's slashing .167/.304/.167 with three RBI and four walks over 18 at-bats in spring training.

  • Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Favorite for left field job

Rosario will get the start in left field during Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against the Mets, and the 32-year-old is viewed as the favorite to claim the starting job at the position, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports. "I'm really glad he's here," Nationals manager Dave Martinez said Monday after Rosario went 1-for-3 as the DH in his spring debut. "I know what he can do. Just another good left-handed bat, a good defender." Rosario signed a minor-league deal with the team last week and isn't guaranteed an Opening Day roster spot, but his defense and proven bat make him a good fit for a Washington lineup looking for reliable contributors. Over 142 games for Atlanta in 2023, Rosario slashed .255/.305/.450 with 21 homers and 74 RBI.

  • Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Lands with Nats

Rosario agreed to a split contract with the Nationals on Wednesday, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports. Alvarez-Montes relays that Rosario can earn up to $4 million if he's on the major-league roster and reaches all of his incentives. The 32-year-old would seem to be a good bet to at least do the former and should receive regular playing time against right-handed pitching between left field and the designated hitter spot. Rosario's addition would seem to be bad news for Jesse Winker's chances of making the Opening Day roster, and could also point to Stone Garrett being used mostly just against left-handers. Rosario slashed .255/.305/.450 with 21 home runs and 74 RBI over 142 games for Atlanta last season.

  • Eddie Rosario: Atlanta declines $9M option

Atlanta declined Rosario's $9 million option for 2024 on Monday. Rosario slashed .255/.305/.450 with 21 home runs and 74 RBI over 142 games for Atlanta this season and is also a National League Gold Glove finalist in left field. Ultimately, Atlanta still felt he wasn't worth the $9 million investment as a platoon bat. Rosario shouldn't have trouble finding a starting job somewhere else.

The veteran outfielder's long ball was his second in his past three games following a 14-contest stretch without a homer. Rosario is up to 18 home runs on the campaign, his most since he went deep 32 times with Minnesota in 2019.

  • Braves' Eddie Rosario: Homer, four RBI in win

Rosario went 3-for-5 with one double, a home run, four RBI and three runs scored in Monday's 11-3 win over the Yankees. Rosario extended Atlanta's lead to 6-2 with a two-run single in the third inning before blasting a two-run homer off Albert Abreu in the eighth. It was Rosario's 17th home run of the season and his first since July 29 -- he'd gone just 8-for-42 (.190) with a .483 OPS over his previous 14 games. Still, the 31-year-old Rosario has been Atlanta's primary left-fielder against right-handed pitching. He's now slashing .249/.296/.459 with 55 RBI and 49 runs scored across 378 plate appearances this season.
