  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Snaps RBI drought

Altuve went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, two RBI and a run scored Monday against the Blue Jays. Altuve doubled in a pair of runs in the fifth inning as part of a four-run rally in the frame. The hit also ended a six-game stretch during which Altuve failed to record an RBI and scored only one run. Despite that slow stretch, Alutive has managed 12 runs and nine RBI while hitting .303 across 22 games.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Breaks up no-hit bid with solo shot

Altuve went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a stolen base and an additional run scored in Monday's 4-3 loss to Seattle. Altuve played the role of spoiler Monday, breaking up Mariners right-hander Logan Gilbert's no-hit bid with a solo homer in the sixth inning. The star infielder-turned-outfielder is off to a sizzling start at the dish in 2025, batting .357 with three long balls and five RBI to go with nine runs scored and two stolen bases over 10 outings.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Swats second homer

Altuve went 3-for-5 with a solo home run in Saturday's 6-1 loss to the Twins. The 34-year-old hooked a Bailey Ober slider down the left-field line for his 41st career leadoff homer, which is 12th on the all-time list and third among active players behind George Springer (60), Mookie Betts (52) and Kyle Schwarber (46). The shift to left field defensively this season hasn't impacted Altuve at the plate, and through eight games he's batting .364 (12-for-33) with two homers.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Pops first homer

Altuve went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Tuesday against the Giants. Altuve has primarily made headlines for his defensive alignment early this season, and he's now started four of five games in left field. He's also performed well at the plate, beginning the campaign with a five-game hitting streak. On Tuesday, he delivered his first home run and extra-base hit of the year and is now 7-for-18.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Draws first start at second base

Altuve is starting at second base and batting leadoff in Monday's contest against the Giants. Altuve manned his new left field position in all three games of the Astros' opening series against the Mets, but he's back at his old spot for the series opener versus the Giants. He remains the team's primary left fielder, but Altuve will still play second base on occasion, and doing so Monday with flyball pitcher Ronel Blanco on the mound for Houston makes sense. Mauricio Dubon is handling left field.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Confirmed as primary left fielder

Astros manager Joe Espada confirmed Wednesday that Altuve will play "most of his games" in left field this season, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Espada noted that it's possible personnel changes down the road alter this line of thinking, but for now the plan is to go into the season with Altuve as the club's everyday left fielder. It's no surprise, as Altuve has been focusing on left field since the beginning of camp and has played the position adequately enough that the team feels comfortable with him there. Mauricio Dubon is the favorite to open the season at Altuve's old second base position.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Manager pleased with work in LF

Astros manager Joe Espada said Thursday that Altuve has done "enough for me to feel good about playing (him in) left field," Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Altuve had a misplay at the left-field wall during Thursday's game against the Cardinals, but Espada appears to be pleased with how the 34-year-old has looked as he attempts to convert from second baseman to left fielder. Espada has not yet officially said that Altuve will be the team's primary left fielder this season, but that announcement seems inevitable.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Plan 'right now' is to play LF

Astros manager Joe Espada said Monday that the plan "right now" is for Altuve to be the team's primary left fielder Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. It's not a surprise, given that Altuve seems to be working out almost exclusively in left field this spring. However, Espada stressed that nothing has been decided yet, as he's still evaluating how Altuve looks in the outfield and he also wants to get feedback from the player. Espada noted that he wants to avoid moving Altuve back-and-forth between left field and second base, so if the team commits to making the 34-year-old a left fielder, that's where the overwhelming majority of his reps will come.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Starting in left field Friday

Altuve will make his Grapefruit League debut in left field Friday versus the Cardinals, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Altuve has never played left field in professional ball, but he's been working out at the position this spring, and it appears to be the spot he's most likely to man on a regular basis for the Astros in 2025. The 34-year-old slashed .295/.350/.439 with 20 home runs and 22 stolen bases across 153 contests for the Astros during the 2024 regular season.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Spring debut in LF this week

Astros manager Joe Espada said Tuesday that Altuve will make his Grapefruit League debut in left field later this week, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Altuve's workouts so far in camp have focused on left field, and that's the position he'll man in his first game this spring. As long as he proves to be adequate defensively, it seems as though Houston plans to play him there often, if not on a full-time basis. Altuve has never played the outfield either at the major- or minor-league level.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: First spring game will be in LF

Manager Joe Espada said Wednesday that Altuve will play left field in first Grapefruit League game this spring, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Altuve has seen significant reps in the outfield in the early days of camp and will work with the outfielders exclusively over the next 4-to-5 days. It's becoming clear at this point that the Astros are serious about potentially moving Altuve to left field, although the 34-year-old will have to show he's comfortable out there before the team commits to it. If Altuve does shift to the outfield, Mauricio Dubon looks to be the current favorite to start at second base. Houston also just agreed to a minor-league deal with Brendan Rodgers, who will be a threat to win the second base job.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Dabbling in left field, second base

Astros manager Joe Espada reiterated Monday that Altuve will see action at both second base and in left field this spring, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Earlier this month, Espada revealed that Altuve had been working out in left field for a couple weeks before the start of spring training, perhaps in anticipation of the Astros re-signing third baseman Alex Bregman, which would have resulted in offseason pickup Isaac Paredes shifting over to second base. While Bregman ultimately came to terms with the Red Sox on a three-year, $120 million deal, the Astros aren't yet closing the door on giving Altuve some exposure to left field, a position the 34-year-old hasn't played at any point since beginning his professional career in 2007. Espada said that he's made no permanent decisions on where Altuve will play this season, calling it an "everyday thing" with regard to how Altuve's deployment in the field will evolve throughout the spring based on the feedback he receives from the veteran. Even if Altuve ends up opening the season at his familiar spot at the keystone, the Astros could still look to move him to left field later on in the campaign to make way in the infield for top prospect Brice Matthews, who has spent most of his time at shortstop in the minors but made 11 starts at second base during winter ball in Puerto Rico.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Already working out in left field

Astros manager Joe Espada said Tuesday that Altuve has been working out in left field for the last two weeks, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Altuve would move to left field if the Astros re-sign Alex Bregman, but it sounds like he might see some action in the outfield whether Bregman is brought back or not. Espada added that while he won't commit to how many games Altuve will play in the outfield, it's "something that we are looking at to create some flexibility." Altuve, 34, has never played the outfield either at the major- or minor-league level. Adding outfield eligibility would give him a boost in fantasy value.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Could get reps in left field

Astros general manager Dana Brown said Tuesday that Altuve could get some reps in left field in addition to second base this season, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Brown added the caveat that Altuve playing left field might only happen if the team makes another roster addition. It's clear he's referring to the possibility of re-signing Alex Bregman, which would result in Isaac Paredes shifting to second base and Altuve playing left field, a position he's never manned before. Altuve said recently at the team's FanFest event that he would be willing to move to left field to accommodate the return of Bregman.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Scratched amid rain delay

Altuve was scratched from Sunday's lineup against the Guardians while it was in a rain delay, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. The game had been delayed for almost an hour when the team submitted a new lineup without Altuve, Kyle Tucker or Alex Bregman, as the Astros opted to not risk one of their veterans getting injured in subpar conditions ahead of the playoffs.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Getting breather Saturday

Altuve isn't in Houston's lineup Saturday versus Cleveland. After tallying a base hit in four of his last five games, Altuve will get a day to rest Saturday while Mauricio Dubon starts at second base and bats seventh.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Cracks pair of doubles in win

Altuve went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored in Friday's 5-2 victory over the Guardians. The Houston second baseman knocked two doubles off Joey Cantillo for his 30th and 31st two-baggers of the season. This performance might signal that Altuve is coming out of his cold spell, as he entered the contest hitting just .154 (6-for-39) over his last nine games. Overall, the nine-time All-Star is slashing .295/.350/.439 with 20 homers, 94 runs scored, 65 runs scored and 22 steals in 682 plate appearances across 153 games this season.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Getting breather Wednesday

Altuve is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Mariners, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Altuve will get a breather one day after the Astros wrapped up another division title. Shay Whitcomb will handle second base and bat seventh Wednesday.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Reaches 20 homers

Altuve went 1-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and two runs scored Sunday against the Angels. Altuve led off the fifth inning with a solo home run to give him 20 homers on the year. This marks the first season that he's managed to record both 20 long balls and 20 stolen bases since 2017, and he's also maintained an impressive .295 average with 92 runs scored across 669 plate appearances.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Absent from Houston lineup

Altuve is not in the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Angels, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. Altuve started the previous six contests after missing one game with soreness in his right side, but he'll be given rest Thursday in what looks to be a routine day off. Mauricio Dubon is at second base for the Astros and Alex Bregman has moved up to the leadoff spot.
