Draft Scouting Report
Jordan Phillips has the prototypical nose tackle build but brings an uncommon level of twitch and urgency for the position. While more reactionary than anticipatory at the snap, he has above-average burst off the ball and can sustain his speed into the backfield. He’s at his best playing 0-tech or 1-tech, occasionally showing the ability to slip through gaps. His most effective rushes come from converting speed to power, allowing him to drive blockers backward with a strong bull rush.
Against double teams, Phillips absorbs contact well and moves laterally with surprising smoothness while engaged. However, he isn’t the classic nose tackle who anchors to free up linebackers -- his style is more disruptive than space-eating. As a pass rusher, his move arsenal is extremely limited, showing only occasional flashes of a swipe or club but rarely deploying them effectively. He struggles to disengage blocks both against the run and the pass, lacking refined hand usage to shed consistently.
Despite those technical shortcomings, his explosiveness and relentless playstyle make him an intriguing developmental prospect. He’s still young, and with improved hand technique, he has the potential to refine his game and maximize his natural athletic tools.
