Panthers' Derrick Brown: Lands massive contract extension
Brown has agreed to a four-year contract extension with the Panthers, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Per Schefter, Brown's four-year extension with Carolina is for $96 million and includes $63.165 million guaranteed. The 2020 first-rounder is coming off a 2023 regular season in which he racked up 103 tackles -- an NFL record for a defensive lineman -- to go along with 2.0 sacks and an interception in 17 games. By extending Brown, the Panthers retain a major piece in the middle of their defense for the next several years, a key move for a unit that no longer includes Brian Burns following his trade to the Giants in March.

Panthers' Derrick Brown: Record-setting season
Brown finished the regular season with 103 tackles (57 solo), including 2.0 sacks, along with an interception in 17 games.
Brown enjoyed an exemplary campaign, as his tackle total set an NFL record for defensive linemen. The 25-year-old has increased his tackle tally across each of his four seasons, making good on the first-round investment Carolina made in him back in 2020. While 2024 is currently slated to be Brown's final year with the Panthers, it wouldn't be surprising if a new front office seeks to secure him to a long-term deal before next season.

Brown tied with Brian Burns for the most tackles on the team Sunday. Brown has registered five-plus tackles in eight of his last 10 games since the Panthers' Week 7 bye. He's up to a career-high 96 tackles (51 solo) on the season.

Brown has had a career year for the Panthers' defense, recording 88 total tackles, including six tackles for loss and 1.0 sacks, while deflecting four passes and intercepting one as well. The Auburn product ranks second on Carolina in total tackles, but his 88 are good enough to make him the NFL's leading tackler amongst defensive lineman. Expect Brown to continue wreaking havoc for the Panthers' defense as the year goes on.

Panthers' Derrick Brown: Secures interception in loss
Brown recorded 10 tackles (five solo), intercepted a pass and deflected another in Sunday's 28-6 loss to the Saints.
Brown was able to reach double-digit tackles for the second time this season and also intercepted a pass from Derek Carr in the second quarter. The defensive lineman has now registered a career-high 74 tackles, including a sack, over 13 contests so far in 2023.

Brown accumulated seven tackles (four solo) in the 20-17 loss to New Orlean's in Week 2.
Brown is now up to 15 tackles (12 solo) through two games. The defensive tackle was on the field for nearly every defensive play Monday, as he saw 69 snaps (93 percent). He also chipped in on five special teams plays (21 percent). He will look to carry his early-season momentum into Sunday's matchup with the Seahawks.
