SMU vs. Abilene Christian: Live updates, score, results, highlights, for Saturday's NCAAF game
Live scores, highlights and updates from the SMU vs. Abilene Christian football game
Game Recap
You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely the SMU Mustangs' strategy against the Abilene Christian Wildcats on Saturday. The Mustangs steamrolled past Abilene Christian 56-9 at home. The margin was wide but not a surprise since the spread was 32 points in SMU's favor.
The contest started off well for SMU, whose offense put up 35 first-half points. Abilene Christian wasn't quite able to keep up, and the score was 35-3 heading into the break. SMU's offense just added to that total in the second half en route to their big win.
QB Tanner Mordecai had a dynamite game for the Mustangs; he passed for seven TDs and 317 yards on 31 attempts. TE Nolan Matthews was in the mix, too, providing SMU with two touchdowns.
SMU's defense was a presence as well, as it collected three interceptions and one fumble. Those interceptions were spread across their defensive unit.
No one had a standout game offensively for Abilene Christian, but WR Kobe Clark led the way with one touchdown. The matchup brought SMU to 1-0 and dropped Abilene Christian to a mirror-image 0-1.
The Mustangs will play host again and welcome the North Texas Mean Green to Gerald J. Ford Stadium, where kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET next Saturday. North Texas is coming in off of a big 44-14 win over the Northwestern State Demons. Abilene Christian will be playing at home against the Louisiana College Wildcats at 7 p.m. ET next Saturday.
