Oklahoma State fans have had high hopes for Herschel Sims since the U.S. Army All-American running back signed with the Cowboys in 2011. Unfotunately, his brief career in Stillwater has ended prematurely with a dismissal from the football program.On Friday, Mike Gundy announced Sims' dismissal as a result of a violation of team rules. No details regarding the nature of the violation were disclosed. As a true freshman, Sims finished third on the team with 242 yards on 31 carries. Sims broke the 100-yard rushing mark twice - high scoring affairs with Texas Tech and Baylor - and scored two touchdowns.
Sims would have likely been Oklahoma State's third rushing option again behind juniors Joseph Randle and Jeremy Smith. Tulsa Worlds' Bill Haisten reports that the immediate expectation is that the Abilene, Texas native "will play a season of junior-college football and then transfer to Baylor."
Interestingly enough, the Cowboys' 59-24 defeat of Baylor in late October was arguably Sims' best performance. Joseph Randle stole the show with his four touchdowns, but Sims added an impressive 81-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage early in the fourth quarter.
Baylor - along with Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and others - extended Sims a scholarship offer before he signed with Oklahoma State in 2011.
