No. 21 Texas pulls away from upset-minded UTSA behind dynamic performance from Bijan Robinson
The Longhorns were able to avoid a letdown at home thanks to their superstar running back
No. 21 Texas survived an upset bid from UTSA with a 41-20 win on Saturday behind 202 total yards and three touchdowns from All-American running back Bijan Robinson. The Roadrunners got off to a brilliant start behind star quarterback Frank Harris, taking the first drive 20 plays for a field goal and adding an 11-play touchdown drive. After the score, UTSA kicked an onside kick and converted a double-pass to take a commanding 17-7 lead over Texas.
From that moment, however, Texas found its rhythm. The Longhorns ran plenty of Wildcat to get the ball into Robinson and fellow running back Roschon Johnson's hands, and results came. Robinson ran for a 3-yard touchdown and the Longhorns tied up the game at the half with a field goal. In the second half, Texas' depth really came through as the Longhorns outscored UTSA 24-3 in the second half.
Robinson ran for 183 yards and three touchdowns in perhaps the best effort of his career; his 78-yard run for a score ranked as the longest of his career. He added another 41-yard score in the fourth quarter to ice the game, but not before defensive back Jahdae Barron nabbed a pick six off Harris to push the lead to two scores. Quarterback Hudson Card had 161 yards passing and a score in the victory.
Harris was outstanding outside of the tipped pick with 222 yards passing and 38 yards rushing. Running back Brendan Brady added 70 yards rushing and a touchdown, along with the 35-yard double-pass touchdown as UTSA looked to pull off the stunner. Unfortunately, none of the touchdowns came with chances to win the second half.
