Michigan State vs. Western Kentucky updates: Live NCAAF game scores, results for Saturday
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Michigan State vs. Western Kentucky football game
Game Recap
The Michigan State Spartans scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They enjoyed a cozy 48-31 win over the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.
The Michigan State offense pulled no punches in the first half and blazed their way to 42 points. WKU wasn't quite able to keep up, and the score was 42-16 heading into the break. The Spartans coasted a bit in the second half, relying primarily on their first half lead, but they still walked away with the victory.
RB Kenneth Walker III hadn't helped MSU's cause all that much against the Nebraska Cornhuskers last week, but the same can't be said for this contest. MSU's Walker III looked sharp as he rushed for three TDs and 127 yards on 24 carries. Another playmaker for MSU was WR Jayden Reed, who returned a punt 88 yards to the end zone in the first quarter.
WKU's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of WR Jerreth Sterns, who caught 17 passes for one TD and 187 yards, and QB Bailey Zappe, who passed for three TDs and 489 yards on 63 attempts.
The Spartans' win brought them up to 5-0. The Hilltoppers' overall record fell to 1-3.
MSU will square off against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at noon ET next Saturday at SHI Stadium. Unlike MSU, RU will be stumbling in off of a defeat. As for WKU, they will face off against the UTSA Roadrunners at 7 p.m. ET next Saturday at Houchens-Smith Stadium. UTSA's offense will need to be on point to get points against WKU's defense, which is averaging only 17.6 points allowed per game.
