Fresno State vs. New Mexico State updates: Live NCAA Football game scores, results for Saturday

3rd Quarter Report

Fortunes may be turning around for Fresno State after losing three in a row. Sitting on a score of 20-10, they have looked like the better team, but there's still one more quarter to play. Their offense has been firing on all cylinders thus far, outscoring their total from back in November with time still left to play.

If Fresno State keeps playing like this, they'll bump their record up to 9-4 in no time. On the other hand, New Mexico State will have to make due with a 10-5 record unless they turn things around (and fast).

Preview

The Fresno State Bulldogs and the New Mexico State Aggies will square off in the New Mexico Bowl at University Stadium 5:45 p.m. ET on Saturday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Fresno State's recent rough patch got a bit rougher back in November after their third straight loss. The game between Fresno State and San Diego State wasn't a total blowout, but with Fresno State falling 33-18 on the road it was darn close to turning into one. Fresno State didn't live up to their potential and found themselves falling short of the advantage oddsmakers thought they had coming into the game.

Malik Sherrod put forth a good effort for the losing side as he rushed for 138 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries. He was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 62 yards.

Meanwhile, after a string of eight wins, New Mexico State's good fortune finally ran out two weeks ago. They lost to Liberty on the road by a decisive 49-35 margin. The matchup was a 21-21 toss-up at halftime, but New Mexico State was outscored by Liberty in the second.

New Mexico State's defeat came about despite a quality game from Diego Pavia, who threw for 188 yards and three touchdowns on only 16 passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Trent Hudson was in the mix as well, providing New Mexico State with two touchdowns.

Fresno State's record is now 8-4. As for New Mexico State, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-4.

Going forward, Fresno State is the favorite in this one, as the experts expect to see them win by 3.5 points. Against the spread, they have been a house darling this year with a chancy 11-15 ATS record.
