College football scores, rankings, highlights: No. 1 Georgia passes road test as top-10 teams make statements

Coming off its impressive Week 10 win over Tennessee, it would have been easy for No. 1 Georgia to suffer a letdown on the road at Mississippi State. Instead, the reigning national champions took care of business against Mike Leach's Bulldogs 45-19, locking up the SEC East in the process and cementing a showdown with No. 7 LSU in the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta in December. Despite a pair of sluggish performances against Kent State and Missouri early in the year, Georgia has been largely workmanlike in its quest to repeat as College Football Playoff champs, and Saturday's road win was the fourth in the past five games that came by at least 20 points.

Other top-10 teams zeroing in on key end-of-season matchups found easy victories in Week 11, with No. 2 Ohio State and No. 3 Michigan rolling over Indiana and Nebraska, respectively, as they work toward a fierce, high-stakes rivalry game in the final weekend of November. Though the Buckeyes have cruised to victory on a near-weekly basis, concerns about this team's health should be raised after running back Miyan Williams had to be carted off the field with an apparent leg injury.

Wrapping up other top-10 action on Saturday was Clemson bouncing back with an impressive 31-16 win over Louisville that keeps the Tigers undefeated in conference play and in the driver's seat for -- at worst -- a New Year's Six bowl berth. While CFP hopes may have been effectively dashed with last week's loss to Notre Dame, beating the Cardinals at least quelled grumblings over the Tigers' offensive woes that have proven difficult to shake over the better part of the last two seasons.

CBS Sports was with you throughout the day to bring you all the highlights and updates from Saturday's Week 11 action.

Arizona stuns UCLA

Final: Arizona 34, No. 12 UCLA 28

What a rough night for the Pac-12's College Football Playoff hopes. First, Oregon loses at home to Washington, and now Arizona stuns UCLA in the Rose Bowl. The Wildcats came to play, and quarterback Jayden de Laura was a chaos engineer with 312 yards passing and a pair of touchdowns. There weren't many stops to go around, but Arizona made just a few more plays and gets a huge win in Jedd Fisch's second year. Looking back, Bruins coach Chip Kelly is probably going to think twice about his fourth-down attempt in his own territory in the fourth quarter, which put Arizona in a position to go up six points. With just two weeks left in the regular season, USC remains the conference's only CFP hopeful.

Utah cruises over Stanford

Final: No. 13 Utah 42, Stanford 7

The Cardinal made things interesting at first by jumping out to a 7-0 lead, but their tough season continues with another major loss -- this time at the hands of the Utes. Stanford's defense simply couldn't get off the field as Utah had six scoring drives of at least 60 yards. Quarterback Cam Rising had three touchdown passes while running back Tavion Thomas had 180 yards rushing and a pair of touchdowns. Up next for Kyle Whittingham's team is a huge game against Oregon, which is coming off a thrilling loss to Washington at home.

Georgia pulls away

Final: No. 1 Georgia 45, Mississippi State 19

Georgia started out sluggish on the road against Mississippi State, but that changed in the second half. Quarterback Stetson Bennett IV tossed two second-half touchdown passes, Ladd McConkey and Kenny McIntosh each scored twice on the ground, and the reigning national champions pulled away for a cover in front of the hostile environment in Starkville. Georgia improves to 10-0 on the season and clinched a spot in the SEC Championship Game with its second straight SEC East title.

Sam Hartman throws his 100th TD

While most of the country's eyes are in Eugene, Oregon, for a battle of haymakers between Oregon and Washington, No. 15 North Carolina and Wake Forest have been going back and forth in a banger, too. Sam Hartman, Wake Forest's veteran quarterback, just threw his 100th career touchdown pass in the third quarter to make it a 34-33 lead for the Demon Deacons. Of course, with the way Hartman and UNC's Drake May have been playing, coupled with these two bad defenses, more touchdowns are likely on the way.

TCU clinging to one-score lead

End 3Q: TCU 10, Texas 3

Texas was finally able to get on the scoreboard with a field goal late in the third quarter. However, the Longhorns still need to get into the end zone in order to tie this game up. That has proven extremely difficult so far, and Quinn Ewers has had a hard time connecting with his receivers. Through three quarters, he has completed less than 50% of his passes for 133 yards and an interception. Fortunately for Texas, its defense has held Max Duggan in check.

Chaos in Eugene

Early 4Q: Oregon 31, Washington 27

This game has major potential to get weird late. The Ducks and Huskies combined for 23 points in the first half, and they combined for 35 points in the third quarter alone. Both Bo Nix and Michael Penix Jr. have found a groove, and both offenses are hitting home runs. In one of the few mistakes either quarterback has made all game, Penix got picked off on the goal line with Washington poised to take a fourth-quarter lead.

A bad omen?

It doesn't appear Texas will lose by 60-plus points to TCU -- it's still a 3-0 game in the third quarter with plenty of time -- but the Longhorns haven't been shut out in the first half since the infamous Rout 66 game in 1997. This is certainly not the game many figured would unfold in Austin between the Horns and Frogs.

Georgia leads after three

Q4: No. 1 Georgia 31, Mississippi State 19

Georgia was sluggish in the first half against Mississippi State, but the offense woke up in the third frame. Specifically, Ladd McConkey. The veteran receiver had a 70-yard run on Georgia's first drive after the break and had a 17-yard touchdown pass from Stetson Bennett IV to build its lead as they head to the fourth. The Georgia defense has held the vaunted air raid offense of Mississippi State coach Mike Leach to just 176 yards in what has been one of its most impressive performances of the year.

Shootout in Winston-Salem

Halftime: North Carolina 27, Wake Forest 21

These two teams have compensated for the lack of scoring in Austin, Texas tonight. The Tar Heels and Demon Deacons have already combined for 536 yards and 48 points, and Drake Maye and Sam Hartman have been going toe-to-toe. It figures to be a long night for the defenses, but if you really want to watch that, flip over to TCU vs. Texas.

Gross half

TCU 3, Texas 0

A combined 140 yards of offense for these two is not what we expected, but it's what we got. Quinn Ewers is 4 of 14 through the air. TCU has seven first downs compared to just three for the Longhorns, but the Horned Frogs were sacked four times in the half. Surprising, to say the least, on both sides. Good news for TCU is that star receiver Quentin Johnston is a go for this game and has a catch after he was questionable leading up to kick.

Kansas State cooking against Baylor

Halftime: Kansas State 17, Baylor 3

In a matchup with Big 12 Championship implications, Kansas State has the upper hand after the first half. After a scoreless first quarter, the Wildcats were able to get rolling and put up 17 points before halftime. Quarterback Will Howard is averaging 9.2 yards per attempt and threw a pair of touchdowns while Deuce Vaughn is already at 75 yards rushing in the game. It'll be up to Baylor to respond as the Bears get the ball to start the second half.

Ducks down

Half: Washignton 13, Oregon 10

At halftime Washington has No. 6 Oregon on the ropes as Camden Lewis' 54-yard attempt falls short on the final play of the half for the Ducks. A catastrophic fumble on the goal-line robbed Oregon of some points in the half. Ducks do get the football to start the third quarter, but it's a good one in Eugene. Not quite the offensive firefight that was expected as both teams have prioritized running the football and haven't gone crazy on pace.

Georgia leads at the half

Half: No. 1 Georgia 17, Mississippi State 12

The reigning national champions lead Mississippi State 17-12 at the break in what has been a conservative contest. The Georgia defense has held the vaunted air raid offense to just 112 yards passing and 139 total yards in what is another stellar defensive performance. Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett IV has a touchdown run and a touchdown pass to Brock Bowers for the Dawgs. However, Zavion Thomas had a 63-yard punt return for a touchdown with three seconds left to make it a one-score game at the break.

Drake Maye comes out firing

End 1Q: North Carolina 14, Wake Forest 7

North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye has already established himself as one of the best in the country, and he is already tearing up the Wake Forest secondary. He has completed 11 of his first 14 pass attempts for 187 yards and a score. For those keeping track at home, Maye is on pace for 748 passing yards. We'll see whether Sam Hartman and Wake Forest can keep pace for 60 minutes.

Washington up

End 1Q: Washington 7, Oregon 3

The Huskies marched down the field for a touchdown on the game's opening possession and have something going again as the second quarter begins in Eugene. Already 158 yards for Washington against the Ducks, who picked up a field goal on their opening series. Neither team going at warp speed so far, as we are still on just the third total possession of the game.

Dawg fight

End 1Q: Georgia 7, Mississippi State 0

Stetson Bennett hit Brock Bowers for a 2-yard TD wide open to cap a touchdown drive on UGA's first possession. Scoreless since then, but Georgia has dominated defensively, allowing just one Mississippi State first down on four possessions so far. Stetson Bennett did throw an INT somewhat inexplicably to keep Georgia from adding to the lead. But it looks like UGA's defense is bringing the momentum from last week into this one.

UCF upsets Tulane

Final: UCF 38, Tulane 31

The Knights survived a late comeback from Tulane in the second half to take control of the AAC race behind 176 yards rushing, 132 yards passing and three total touchdowns from quarterback John Rhys Plumlee. Running back Isaiah Bowser added a pair of rushing scores. Tulane quarterback Michael Pratt played a strong game with 236 yards and four total touchdowns, but the Green Wave failed to get a stop after a handful of conversions on UCF's last scoring drive. UCF moves to sole possession of first place in the AAC standings. Tulane now has to win its last two games against Cincinnati and SMU to assure themselves a spot in the final game.

Boston College!

Final: Boston College 21, NC State 20

The Eagles entered as nearly three touchdown underdogs on the road against the No. 16 Wolfpack. While NC State is without starting quarterback Devin Leary, BC was also without its star QB Phil Jurkovec due to injury. Emmett Morehead threw for 330 yards, three TDs and two INTs in Jurkovec's absence and hit Joe Griffin for the game-winning TD with just 14 seconds left. Huge win for BC in what has been a rough season.

Clemson runs all over Louisville

Final: Clemson 31, Louisville 16

Clemson jumped out to a first-half lead and was content to sit on it for the rest of the game. The Tigers did that by dominating Louisville in the running game. Clemson rushed for 248 yards and three scores, and the Louisville defense looked helpless. Phil Mafah led the Tigers with 106 yards rushing, but Will Shipley wasn't far behind with 97 yards. Clemson remains undefeated in ACC play with only the Miami Hurricanes left on the conference slate.

Penn State dominates

Final: Penn State 30, Maryland 0

A 10-win regular season for Penn State — with only losses coming against Ohio State and Michigan — remains on the table as the Nittany Lions dominate today against Maryland. Penn State closes at Rutgers and vs. Michigan State, two games in which it will be favored. Nick Singleton led the way with 122 yards and two TDs on 11 carries today, but it was really the Penn State defense that stood out with seven sacks. Maryland finished with just 134 yards.

Wolverines cruise

Final: Michigan 34, Nebraska 3

Blake Corum leads the way with 28 carries for 162 yards and a touchdown as Michigan stays unbeaten with a drama-free win over visiting Nebraska. The outcome ensures the Cornhuskers won't be going bowling for a sixth straight season. Michigan limited Nebraska to just 146 total yards and only eight first downs. Ohio State and Michigan each have one more game to get through before the stage is set for their all-important showdown to end the regular season.

UCF in control

4Q: UCF 31, Tulane 17

One quarter remains for control of the AAC title race as the Knights have put together a dominant running performance against Tulane. UCF quarterback John Rhys Plumlee is up to 177 yards rushing with two touchdowns to lead the Knights, while Tyjae Spears has 130 yards rushing for the Green Wave. A win could effectively clinch a spot in the AAC Championship Game for either team -- the Knights are in control.

Michigan in control

Early 4Q: Michigan 24, Nebraska 3

The Wolverines haven't been lighting it up offensively, but their defense has been solid and Blake Corum is just a beast. Corum has 162 yards on 28 carries with a long of 12. It's not like he popped off a couple of long runs to account for those yards. He's earning them on every touch. With Casey Thompson out, the Cornhuskers have struggled to move the ball, to put it kindly.

Louisville loses Malik Cunningham

Late 3Q: Clemson 24, Louisville 10

The Cardinals already faced an uphill battle trying to come from behind to defeat Clemson in Death Valley, but that task just got even tougher. Louisville quarterback Malik Cunningham left the game with a shoulder injury, and he will not return. Junior Brock Domann has entered the game to take his place, and he must find a way to get the Cardinals back in the game with time becoming the enemy.

Insane leap by Shipley

3Q: Clemson 24, Louisville 10

Clemson running back Will Shipley had one of the most dominant plays of the year to finish off a 25-yard touchdown run. Shipley exploded through the line, hurdled a defender and broken a pair of tackles at the same time to fly into the end zone for a score. Shipley has 72 yards rushing on just 10 carries for Clemson in a strong performance against Louisville.

Evened up in Oxford

Early 3Q: Alabama 17, Ole Miss 17

The Crimson Tide fell behind by 10 twice in the first half, but they have managed to claw their way back to a tie game in Oxford. Despite facing some pressure, Bryce Young has put Alabama in position to get a much-needed road win. Alabama has 173 total yards, and Young is responsible for 149 of them. With Ole Miss' offense moving the ball well, this one is setting up to be another SEC classic.

Penn State dominating

Half: Penn State 27, Maryland 0

Something is not right with this Maryland offense. The offensive line has given up five sacks. After a poor performance last week in Taulia Tagovailoa's return from injury, the Terrapins have just 27 yards at halftime. Keeping Taulia healthy with this poor pass protection is a serious concern. Penn State is running wild as Nick Singleton is already over 100 yards. Nittany Lions are cruising.

UCF up on Tulane

Half: UCF 24, Tulane 14

The Knights lead at the half in a critical AAC road tilt against conference leading Tulane. UCF quarterback John Rhys Plumlee has run all over the Tulane defense with 159 yards and a touchdown on the ground to go with a passing score. However, Tulane put together a 75-yard scoring drive late to pull the game within 10 points. UCF has 318 total yards at the half, including 7.7 yards per carry.

Michigan suffocating Nebraska

Halftime: Michigan 17, Nebraska 3

No. 3 Michigan takes a two-touchdown lead into the locker room, and its defense has completely suffocated the Nebraska offense. Through two quarters, the Huskers have only been able to scratch out 104 yards of offense, and quarterback Chubba Purdy has thrown for just 65 yards. On offense, the Wolverines have leaned on star running back Blake Corum as they try to wear down an overmatched Nebraska team.

Clemson offense bouncing back vs. Louisville

Halftime: Clemson 17, Louisville 7

The Tigers' offense looked completely broken in the team's loss to Notre Dame last week. In the first half against Louisville, that side of the ball bounced back a bit. D.J. Uiagalelei completed 14 of his 20 throws for 155 yards and a score. As a team, the Tigers already have 100 yards on the ground. The only thing that kept Clemson from having a better half was a fumble in Louisville territory.
