King battles back to boot Szavay, reach quarterfinals in Monterrey

MONTERREY, Mexico -- American qualifier Vania King rallied from 6-3, 4-1 down to upset fifth-seeded Agnes Szavay 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the Monterrey Open second round on Thursday.

King had conceded a 4-0 start to the match, and looked to be out when she fell behind by two breaks in the second set.

But King started attacking the Hungarian's serve, and completed the comeback by saving the one break point she faced in the last set as Szavay hit five double faults.

In King's first quarterfinals since August, she will play second-seeded Marion Bartoli of France, who beat wild card Magdalena Rybarikova of Slovakia 6-4, 6-0. It's Bartoli's third quarterfinals of the year, including the Australian Open.

No. 6 Iveta Benesova of the Czech Republic, at a career-high 31st ranking after reaching the Acapulco semifinals last week, defeated Roberta Vinci of Italy 7-6, (4), 6-2.
