SECAUCUS, N.J. -- Former Seton Hall midfielder Gordon Kljestan, the brother of U.S. national team player Sacha Klejstan, signed a developmental contract with the New York Red Bulls on Wednesday.
The Red Bulls waived midfielder Kevin Mesa to make room for Kljestan.
"Gordon has impressed us since joining our team on trial a few weeks ago," Red Bulls sporting director Jeff Agoos said. "We think that he can make a contribution to our squad and we're excited to have him on board."
The 24-year-old was drafted by the Los Angeles Galaxy in the first round last year. He started in six games for the Galaxy reserve team. Kljestan started two reserve league matches for the Red Bulls prior to signing with the MLS team.
Mesa signed with the Red Bulls on March 20 after training with the team in preseason. The New York City product played in four reserve games this season.
Sacha Klejstan is a midfielder with Chivas USA and could be part of the U.S. Olympic team this summer.
