Defenseman Niklas Kronwall gets a kick out of delivering crushing open-ice hits but enjoys contributing offensively, too.

With three straight multiple-point games recently, Kronwall is providing some much needed offense from the blue line for a team whose top defense pairing is off to a slow start offensively. With five goals and eight assists, Kronwall is third on the team in scoring, behind Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk, heading into Friday's home game against the Florida Panthers.

"He's got that golden touch right now," Brad Stuart, Kronwall's defense partner, said. "He's getting pucks through, he's shooting it well. Anytime you can do that, you create opportunities for yourself."

Kronwall, whose point total has increased every season in the NHL, has learned to pick his spots better.

"My first few years, you're too eager, you jumped in the play maybe when it wasn't there," Kronwall said. "That way you turned the puck over and here they come on a two-on-one instead. You have to learn when to jump in and when not to."

Kronwall is shooting only slightly more than he did last season (1.78 shots per game vs. 1.51 in 2008-09), but it's enough to suit coach Mike Babcock, who said his top defense pair, Nicklas Lidstrom and Brian Rafalski, needs to shoot more.

STARS 3, RED WINGS 1: The power play was the difference as Dallas scored twice on the man-advantage while the Wings went 0-for-4. Detroit registered only eight shots on goal during eight minutes on the power play, much to coach Mike Babcock's dismay. The Wings passed on too many shooting opportunities, looking for the perfect play, and it cost them.

In my mind a Ville Leino trade is inevitable... to whom would we trade him to though? Also would it be smart to maybe trade the rights to Jiri Hudler away to get a better pick? The Red Wings need to trim $700k away before next tuesday when ...(more)

According to redwingscentral.com Slovakian forward Tomas Tatar is progressing impressively, with 21 points in 35 and +7 games he is easily the most consistent Left winger and pretty much the only bright spot on the Grand Rapids Griffins this season (they are tied for last in pts). He takes the #1 Red Wings ...(more)

After a long 4 and a half months of missing the workhorse (mule) himself, Johan Franzen makes his 2010 debut. he played 3 games early in October ('09), but has not since (which we all know). 2 of those games were against the Blues in Stockholm, Sweden and the other against ...(more)

Between giving up huge leads and losing every shoot out they've been in lately, this team is now in serious jepoardy of missing the playoffs. You know things aren't going your way when you hit the post twice and then the other team ends up scoring to win the game. Even though Hossa didn't do jack shit**** in the playoffs last year his depa ...(more)

"I was watching the TV show, “60 Minutes” recently and one of the featured stories was on disgraced ex-NBA referee Tim Donaghy.

His story is too long to explain here but he was wrapped up in the mob, and was busted by the FBI for betting on NBA games including ones he refereed. ...(more)

With the a break in 2 weeks you  could`nt ask for  a  better time for Niklas to start getting hot, part of it is that are IR list is getting smaller so the regular players are coming back, now we will see less mistakes (mental errors). the way Lidstrom was moving side to side on the blue line last night (Wings - Preds) I was getting the feeling that the play ...(more)

After tonight's game @ the Wild, I honestly am starting to believe that maybe the Wings are wanting to have the postseason off for the first time in more then a decade.(Obviously not including the lockout season)

They just don't seem to care. I know I'm going over the edge I'm sure they do care but my god it just does not seem th
