Ducks' Selanne says 2009-10 season will be last in NHL

HELSINKI, Finland -- Anaheim Ducks forward Teemu Selanne said his next NHL season will be his last.

Selanne, a 10-time all-star, turned 39 on Friday and told daily Helsingin Sanomat that a man that age does not belong in a league like the NHL.

"It is a forum for young boys," Selanne said. "But the right diet, rest and muscle care help to prolong a career. Personally I am injury-free, I feel young at mind and pursue a lot of activities."

Selanne contemplated retirement but has decided to play for one more season.

"The next season is without doubt my last. This time my decision will be kept," he said.

Selanne also pondered the possibility of playing with longtime Montreal captain Saku Koivu. Rumors have the Ducks as one possible new team for Koivu, who is leaving the Canadiens after 13 years.

"The chemistry between us two has worked well on the national team. It would be interesting to see how our interacting would improve if we should play together on a daily basis," Selanne said.

Selanne entered the NHL 1992 at age 22 with the Winnipeg Jets. In his first season he scored 76 goals -- a rookie record.

Selanne has scored 614 goals in 1,237 games for Winnipeg, San Jose, Colorado and Anaheim.
