Niittymaki the new No. 1 in Tampa?: The Sports Xchange reports the recent play of goaltender Antero Niittymaki may have vaulted the Finnish netminder into No. 1 status with the Lightning. Although team officials continue to hold to the notion that Mike Smith is the team's top goaltender, things might be in for a bit of a change. Niittymaki, who signed a one-year contract with Tampa Bay as a free agent in the summer, has played more like the No. 1 as the Lightning has inched into a playoff position.

Fantasy Analysis
Since being pulled twice in a three-game span from Jan. 16-19, Niittyamaki has been on a tear. Heading into Saturday's game against Calgary, Niittymaki is 5-0-1 in his past six starts with a 1.12 goals-against average and .963 save percentage. He hasn't allowed more than two goals in any of those six starts. In the team's past 11 games, Niittymaki has started 10 times. Though six of those starts came while Smith was out with a neck strain, Niittymaki has earned the opportunity to stay between the pipes. We aren't quite sure what Tampa has in store as the trade deadline approaches. It seems neither Niittymaki nor Smith is untouchable. We will just have to wait and see. Niittymaki is the current flavor of the month and the better start in Fantasy among the two netminders. The Lightning TG is at best a No. 2 option.
