Browns QB Quinn fined for chop block on Ravens' Suggs

BEREA, Ohio -- Cleveland Browns quarterback Brady Quinn has been fined by the NFL for his chop block on Baltimore's Terrell Suggs.

After throwing an interception in Monday night's 16-0 loss to the Ravens, Quinn dived at Suggs' knees while trying to bring down cornerback Chris Carr, who had picked him off. Suggs had to leave the game and could miss significant playing time.

Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis accused Quinn of a cheap shot.

Quinn understands why the Ravens were mad and can appreciate them questioning his intentions.

"I can see why they'd be upset," he said. "But again, he wasn't even in my vision. I was trying to get to the ball. He cut across my face as I was already try to jump down for the tackle."

Quinn dropped his head and threw his body into Suggs' right knee, thinking he would be able to bring down Carr. He was flagged for a low block and the Browns were penalized 15 yards.

Quinn received a letter from the league on Wednesday but would not disclose the size of his fine, saying only that it was "a good amount."

He maintains he was not trying to hurt Suggs, with whom he has worked out in the offseason. Quinn apologized to him and the Ravens after the game and plans to reach out to Suggs again.

"I wasn't trying to go for him," he said. "I was trying to go for the ball carrier. Unfortunately, a thing like that can happen. I'm praying for him. Hopefully he'll be all right."

Browns coach Eric Mangini believes Quinn was only trying to tackle Carr.

"Knowing Brady, he's a good person," Mangini said. "I don't think he would ever look to hurt someone deliberately."

I did see the hit, and it was a close call.  I would have to say that even though I consider myslef a rowns fan, that it was the right call by fining him.  I will say, I am glad atleast 1 guy out there is playing with some intensity and fire.  As bad as the offense have been, and as horrid the defense as well, I am glad ...(more)

Mark Sanchez was fined earlier this year for a play in which he was not even penalized and it was still the right call. To address the previous post stating that stated "At least Brady was playing with intensity and fire" is absolutley rediculous. In a league where the quarterbacks are protected beyond a reasona ...(more)

My entire Browns team should be fined for conduct detrimental to the NFL each time it takes the field, including the game they actually won.  They are an embarassment to the game.

And yet I watch.  Therefore, I should be fined for stupidity.

Go Browns.

Wichard, Suggs' agent, wasn't buying that, the Carroll County Times reported Wednesday.

"That cat should be fined as much as anybody is fined that hits the quarterback," Wichard said, according to the report. "That's ridiculous. I don't understand what he was trying to do. It was blatant. It's absolutely criminal. It's about as nasty as it gets.

"The guy had ...(more)

Brady Quinn should be fined for throwing footballs at the fans in the stands the whole game.  Every time he tried to throw it further than 20 yards downfield, it was closer to hitting the fans than it was to his receivers.

Seriously though, what was the deal with that?  I don't think I've ever seen a Q

What the hell was Quinn doing blocking anyway? He just threw a pick, he should be trying to tackle the guy with the ball.

ESPN reported that the fine was $10,000.  What is 10k?  That isn't an appropriate fine.  You know if this wasn't a quaterback this would have been a 25-30k fine.  He should have at least gotten hit with 20k.  The NFL is starting to suck with all of this quarterback protection.

the no talent QB had just thrown a pick 6, followed up by what would have been back to back Pick 6's, and tried a Brett Favre move to gain the respect of his team, and coul dhave ended the career of Suggs

if all they fined this cat was 10k, it is ridiculous...

quinn will be out of the league in 18 months
