OL Jeremy Newberry has retired, according to agent Doug Hendrickson. He had signed with Atlanta in June. "His knees just kind of gave out on him," Hendrickson said. "He could barely walk, and he couldn't give it a go. He figured it was time." Hendrickson said Newberry, an 11-year-veteran and two-time Pro Bowl lineman, filed retirement papers with the league. In his career, he played mostly with the San Francisco 49ers. Newberry figured to be a proven backup for center Todd McClure and guards Harvey Dahl and Justin Blalock, all of whom started all 16 regular-season games last season. Newberry's agent Doug Hendrickson, told The Associated Press on Tuesday that Newberry, who had signed with the Atlanta Falcons in June, has retired after recently hurting his left knee. His retirement was first reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
