GENERAL REPORT: GRADE: 6.54
Body Structure: Pascoe has good bulk and a thick frame that can still carry at least another 10 pounds. He has strong upper body development with a thick chest, broad shoulders, tight waist and firm midsection. He has large, yet soft hands, with the power to generate a punishing jolt when attacking defenders as a blocker. He has good lower body thickness, especially in the thighs.
Athletic Ability: Pascoe lacks even adequate timed speed, but compensates with sure hands, great tenacity as a blocker, good hand/eye coordination and above average pass catching skills, if he grabs the ball in stride rather than leap for it. He shows the body control and adjustment and while he will never be sudden or explosive in his movement, he has deceptive quickness and good leg drive to gain positive yardage after the catch. He is a well-coordinated athlete who might be tight-hipped as a runner, but shows good strength and balance in his routes. He does not have the speed to threaten the defenses on deep patterns, but is more comfortable on controlled routes. GRADE: 5.6
Football Sense: Pascoe is a student of the game who adapted quickly to tight end after joining the program as a quarterback. He learns football well and needs just minimal reps to retain. He shows good physicality and desire blocking in-line and does a good job of locating stunts and blitzes. He shows very good field awareness and vision. GRADE: 6.4
Character: Pascoe is a good ole cowboy who could replace the Marlboro Man. He is well-liked by the staff and players, especially for his air of toughness that rubs off on the squad when he is in the game. He comes from a supportive family and has no known off-field issues. His younger cousin, aptly nicknamed "Cub" looks up to Bear as his role model. He is just a great kid from a small town, the type that keeps his teammates loose in the locker room and coaches cite his dependability. GRADE: 7.0
Competitiveness: Pascoe could be the poster child for toughness. He came back and played with ankle problems that should have sidelined him longer over the last two years. He shows up and competes on every snap and loves his role on special teams, an aspect of his game that he could make a nice living doing at the NFL level. He has good toughness for the position, as he does not hold back when he has to get physical going for the ball in a crowd. GRADE: 7.2
Work Habits: Pascoe is a hard worker in all areas, responsible and one that displays intensity in practices and games. He takes to hard coaching well and is very consistent in the ways he goes about preparing for his upcoming opponent. He is an ideal locker room presence. GRADE: 6.5
ATHLETIC REPORT: GRADE: 5.57
Release: Pascoe is never going to surprise a defender with explosiveness off the snap and has just marginal timed speed for this position. But, he uses his size and strength to fight through the hold-up. He does not have the quickness to elude but will flash good craftiness at the Xs to create a lane upfield. He has adequate quickness in his release and will get up the field only when he uses his hand punch effectively to avoid reroutes. He is more of a power-through type of runner who lacks nifty change of direction agility, but uses his athletic skills and leg drive to escape. GRADE: 5.2
Acceleration: Pascoe does not have the speed, burst or built up acceleration to threaten the seam. It takes him several steps to get into gear and while he can position his body to make the play, he is never going to be able to run away from the pack and is best on short area routes, where he can use his power to gain some positive yardage to move the chains. He is much more productive in the short range, using his savvy to find holes in the zone. He has the big body and natural hands to catch in a crowd, but just lacks top end speed and separation. He has just enough to get free and catch the ball on underneath routes. He will run over the middle, flex out and drag under with effectiveness, but is a liability when asked to take the ball long distances. GRADE: 4.8
Quickness: Pascoe is generally late off the Xs to get off the ball as a receiver, but shows good urgency as an in-line blocker. He has no burst and marginal acceleration heading upfield. He just lacks quickness, but even with somewhat tight hips he shows good moves to set up and avoid the defender in the short area. He has above average strength to move with the ball and rarely struggles to find it in traffic. His intensity level and strength lets him defeat the jam, using his hands well to jolt. GRADE: 5.1
Route Running: Pascoe is never going to be explosive, quick or sudden, but runs precise routes and gets proper depth. He can gather at the top of the route to get out of his cuts. He is good with delays to set up his routes and gets good depth in flat routes. He can clear through the zone and while he is a little stiff, he has enough change of direction agility to find open spaces. He is just an adequate plant and drive type, but better doing this underneath than on deep patterns. GRADE: 6.3
Separation Ability: Pascoe knows how to lean on defenders and push off, as he is deceptively quick with his stick moves to momentarily freeze defenders and create separation, but once his opponent recovers he is easily caught from behind. When he gets too tall and rounds his breaks, he struggles to gain separation. He does a nice job of settling into soft areas in the zone, but lacks separation speed to pull away from the defense. He is not slow, just lacks pull away speed. He does have a small burst to escape the linebackers after the short catch. GRADE: 5.3
Ball Concentration: Pascoe only has eyes for the football when negotiating through traffic. He has superb concentration and good size to make plays in traffic. He will take a hit and hold on, even with defenders draped on him (recovered the only fumble of his career). He shows above average hand/eye coordination to catch with the defender all over him. He has above average leg strength and maintains his concentration on the ball, looking it in well. GRADE: 6.4
Ball Adjustment: Pascoe can adjust for the low throws, but has marginal timing and leaping ability to get to the throw at its high point. He is best served just positioning his body to make the play rather than elevating and going for the ball. He has rangy hands, but is not athletic enough to adjust to the ball in flight, as he is a little stiff in the hips. He will make a good effort to get to the off-target tosses and shows good reactionary ability, coming back to help the quarterback when the passer is flushed out of the pocket. GRADE: 5.3
Leaping Ability: Pascoe shows marginal vertical leaping ability going for the ball. He will jump and grab for the pass either too early or simply not elevate high enough. If you need someone to win jump ball battles, he is certainly not your type. GRADE: 4.5
Hands: Pascoe has very good hands and catches the ball easily outside his frame. He does not fight the pass and will keep the ball off his body. He has soft hands and is very good with hand placement on the ball. He also delivers a strong hand jolt as a blocker. GRADE: 6.5
Run After the Catch: Pascoe is never going to frighten a defender with his pull-away speed. He takes what the defense gives and is more of a power type of chain mover than one who will just turn, escape and get big yardage after the catch. He has the leg drive to get up the field after the catch and is very difficult to bring down on first contact, but he is not going to run away from too many people. He is a strong runner who can easily break arm tackles and shows enough small burst to get some yardage after the catch. He might outrun a linebacker if he can gain a step, but is not known as a speed burner that can race past safeties in the deep zone. GRADE: 5.4
Blocking Ability: Pascoe is a much better blocker at the Xs than in the second level. He can get out and mirror edge rushers and will lock up and sustain with aggression in the trenches. It is rare to see him get bucked back by the larger defensive linemen on lead blocks from the H-back position, but must do a better job of angling and adjusting working into the second level. He will wall and screen off with movement blocking in-line. He just does not have enough foot speed to get out on the linebacker upfield, where he also needs to show more explosion behind his hits (more of a position blocker). GRADE: 6.9
Special Teams: Pascoe's lack of leaping ability as a pass catcher is puzzling, as he has done a superb job on the coverage units when it comes to blocking kicks. Whether he is more comfortable doing this or not, he is one of the top 10 kick blockers in NCAA history. GRADE: 6.3
Compares To: KRIS MANGUM, ex-Carolina -- It is fitting that he is compared to a retired player, as Pascoe is an old school type of tight end, one that does a good job of blocking in-line and is used as a safety valve receiver underneath. He is not the type to threaten the seam and you will find most other tight ends in the draft able to outrace him, but he has the intangibles - a blue collar work ethic, tough as nails and willing to sacrifice himself to make the play.
