Jan. 5, 2009 CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Monica Wright scored 22 points and No. 15 Virginia beat St. Francis, Pa. 82-66 on Monday night. Wright was 9-of-21 from the field and had six rebounds and four assists for the Cavaliers (13-2), who are off to their best start since 1991-92. Aisha Mohammed, playing in her second game after returning from knee surgery, had 16 points and 12 rebounds for Virginia. Britney Hodges had 13 points and Brittany Lilley added 11 for the Red Flash (3-10). St. Francis led 32-25 with just over three minutes left in the first half behind Hodges, who had all her points in the opening 20 minutes. But Virginia then began to assert itself and opened a 21-point lead in the second half. The Cavaliers, who shot 37 percent from the field (29-of-78), outrebounded the Red Flash 47-42. |
