Dec. 29, 2008 GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Marshae Dotson scored 20 points and Sha Brooks added 19 to help No. 18 Florida beat Vermont 85-76 on Monday night in the opening round of the State Farm Classic. The Gators (12-1) tied a school record with their 12th consecutive victory and advanced to play Miami (Ohio) in the championship game Tuesday. Florida led 18-5 early and was up 60-49 midway through the second half, but couldn't put away the Catamounts (5-6), who kept it close thanks to May Kotsopoulos' scrappy play and Courtnay Pilypaitis' outside shooting. Kotsopoulos led Vermont with 25 points, including 18 in the second half. Pilypaitis was 4-of-6 shooting from 3-point range and finished with 20 points, six rebounds and five assists. Jen Mossor chipped in 16 points for Florida, and Sharielle Smith had the team's first double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 boards. |
