Lakers report: Getting inside

For all the attention that Mike D'Antoni's "Seven Seconds or Less" up-tempo offense has gotten in recent years, the Lakers might well be bringing back the idea that big is beautiful.

The Lakers' 60-36 rebounding advantage over D'Antoni's New York Knicks on Tuesday was a stark reflection of how size can matter in basketball. The Lakers did commit 25 turnovers, but they won easily by shooting far more accurately from close range while the Knicks fired away from afar.

"Probably the biggest thing is that they are good," D'Antoni said of the Lakers. "They had a lot of length on us, and the only way we are going to be able to beat them is if we made some jumpshots -- and we just did not make them.

"When you are shooting 38 percent, they are going to get a lot more rebounds. And when you play with three 7-footers (Andrew Bynum, Pau Gasol and 6-foot-10 Lamar Odom), you are going to get a lot more rebounds, too."

Bynum had eight rebounds, Gasol 16 and Odom 12 against New York. Ron Artest had seven, too.

The Lakers' size made it nearly impossible for New York to work out any offense near the rim. Said Knicks forward Wilson Chandler: "They pushed our offense back a little farther than we usually do."

LAKERS 100, KNICKS 90: Kobe Bryant was plus-25 -- meaning the Lakers outscored the Knicks by 25 points when he was on the court but got outscored by 15 points when he wasn't. Bryant had 34 points on 14-of-20 shooting.

There is simply nothing the Lakers could do in this game.  Very frustrating to watch.  Aside from running out with the gatorade jug and throwing its contents on billups and smith to cool them off i really see nothing this team could have done.  The Nuggets as we all kn ...(more)

I blasted this team up and down after the Nuggets game I think a lot of it was deserved, but I now would like to point out a few things from that game now that made a difference. I think first of all I remember sometime in the second quarter Kobe seemed to re injure his ankle. I think it is clear it was on this play that he injured it so ba ...(more)

Now that I got your attention, I am not serious about this at all, but looking at all the threads on how the Lakers are better without Kobe I felt we should stop this nonsense before it goes any further.

Did Kobe need to sit, YES. The competitor in him will not allow him to rest or take games off, however he was not playing as ef

I know he is young, and I have not heard why he only played 10 minutes last night.  But could it be he is just another player who has never had to struggle to mark as a pro.  It seems he has been give every chance to be the player they want him to to be, a defensive and rebounding machine whom can clean up the offensive glass and score on his defender when he has the advantag

I think and I hope that the Lakers management realizes that we need to mak a small acquisition to prepare for the stretch run.  There are definitely available players that teams do want to trade due salary cap restrictions or for other reasons.  There are two areas we need help with: defending quick point guards and a pe ...(more)

(POLL) While certainly outside my normal thread/topic realm I came accross this truly bizarre post while reading Bill Simmon's recent mailbag and to take my mind off the loss last night thought it would be worth exploring.

As many know Phil Jackson is a big believer in cultural awareness and repeatedly issues novels for players to read with some kind of cultural theme of life lesson inherent

This is a message to Kobe, take as many games off as you need.  In fact, I think you need to take the next 10 or so games off.  I have been saying this now for quite a while as have many other laker fans.  Kobe has not been his typical effecient self consistantly lately.  He has been forcing the issue on offense and concenquently the rest of the team has kind of gone into " ...(more)

Yes, I know the Lakers are the defending Western Conference and NBA champions with the best record in the West, but at this point the Nuggets are the better team.  With the their best player and the league's leading scorer on the bench, the Nuggets completely dominated the ...(more)

I was reading an article on ESPN today in the rumor section and it appears as if Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak has no desire to make a move before the trade deadline.  Kupchak reportedly told an ESPN reporter that he "sees no reason to change anything within the team".  I would have to assume that this is true.  It appear ...(more)

What up fam...my sincere apologies for neglecting the Nation, with an increased workload, trying to weather the injury bug on my fantasy teams and keeping the haters in check on the General Board, I am ashamed of myself that I havent posted on our board in seemingly ages but just by reading up on some of the recent material here, looks like the board is still maintaining its usual outstanding self ...(more)

I'll preface by saying this thread is not an overreaction to last nights game at Cleveland (of which I didn't expect us to win).  I could just as easily post this after the Knicks game tomorrow night of which Bynum will probably decimate New York's undersized front line, but now seems like an opportune time to discuss the possibility of ...(more)

I was just looking at this and was think, WHAT?  Most of these were on the road and against pretty good teams.  At first I was going to address our road record and wondering why we were struggling there, but I really don't have much of a concern because I know come March the Lakers start turning up the ...(more)

(POLL) This question has gone around alot recently on ESPN, but I want to know us Laker Fans perspective. I as a life long Laker fan try to keep a level head when it comes to the regular season and wins/losses, however I feel something is not working with this years team. Let's examine further.

1) They have a great record at this point (37-12) with no challengers in the Pacific Division  (I should be thrilled, maybe we're spoiled)

2) They out score opponents by almost 7 poin
