SALT LAKE CITY -- The Utah Jazz have cut second-round draft pick Goran Suton and two other players.
Suton, Spencer Nelson and Alexander Johnson learned they were cut on Wednesday, one week before the season opener at Denver.
The cuts leave the Jazz with 16 players, one more than the NBA maximum. General manager Kevin O'Connor said that the Jazz are still trying to figure out how many players to keep on the roster.
The Jazz took Suton, who helped lead Michigan State to the NCAA title game last spring, with the No. 50 pick in June, but had too many centers and forwards to keep him.
Johnson has played for Memphis and Miami in the NBA and spent last season in Germany. Nelson, a former star at Utah State, played in Greece last season.

Magic center Foyle has surgery on right knee
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Orlando Magic reserve center Adonal Foyle has undergone arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.
The Magic made the announcement.
The team said there's no timetable for Foyle's return, which will depend on how his knee responds to treatment. Foyle hasn't played in the preseason and has only participated in a few practices because of knee soreness.
Magic coaches have touted the 34-year-old Foyle as a strong practice partner for center Dwight Howard. Foyle likely wouldn't have received much playing time this season behind Howard and backup center Marcin Gortat.

Amway to sponsor Magic practice jerseys
ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Orlando Magic are taking advantage of a new NBA rule allowing companies to purchase space on the jerseys players wear in practice.
The Magic announced that they have partnered with Amway. The Michigan-based direct selling company will have its logo on the upper-right side of the team's practice jerseys. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
This is the first season NBA teams were granted clearance to have a sponsorship presence on their practice jerseys.
Amway was founded in 1959 by Magic owner Rich DeVos and his friend, Jay Van Andel. Orlando's arena has the company's name, and it will also be on its new arena opening next season.
T-Wolves waive center Reiner
MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Timberwolves have waived center Jared Reiner, one day after acquiring another big man in a trade with Dallas.
Reiner signed with the Timberwolves as a free agent at the end of September. He averaged 3.3 points and 3.7 rebounds in three preseason games. He has previously had stints with Milwaukee and Chicago and played college ball at Iowa.
He became expendable when the Wolves sent a conditional second-round draft pick in 2012 to the Mavericks on Tuesday for Nathan Jawai.
