Vazquez traded back to Yankees: Pitcher Javier Vazquez has been traded back to the Yankees by Atlanta in a swap that sent Melky Cabrera to the Braves on Tuesday. New York also gets left-hander Boone Logan as part of the deal, and the Braves obtained pitching prospects Michael Dunn, a lefty, and right-hander Arodys Vizcaino, and about $500,000. Vazquez spent 2004 with the Yankees, going 14-10 and making his only All-Star team. His first stint in New York ended miserably, when he relieved Kevin Brown trailing 2-0 in Game 7 of the AL championship series against Boston and allowed a first-pitch grand slam to Damon. Cabrera had been the Yankees' starting center fielder for most of the last three seasons. He hit .274 with 13 homers and 68 RBI last season.

Fantasy Analysis

Vazquez is coming off the best season of his career, but he hasn't been good in the AL in his four seasons in that league. His ERA is a half-run higher than in the NL over his career, which started with Montreal and includes stints with the Yankees, White Sox, D-Backs and Braves. His higher ERA in the AL seems to be a function of doing business against the DH, because his ratios (hits per nine and strikeouts per nine) are identical in each league. Vazquez will give up a lot of homers in Yankee Stadium, but you cannot argue with his run support and wins potential there. Vazquez was a top 10 Fantasy pitcher with the Braves last season, but we have to cautiously rank him more like a top 15 because he hasn't prove consistent from year to year.
