Ellsbury in left; Cameron in center: The Red Sox are realigning their outfield by shifting center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury to left in order to make room for Mike Cameron. The decision was made after they signed Cameron, a three-time Gold Glove winner, last month. In his 1,829 games, Cameron has played center field in 1,699 and left field in just three. Red Sox GM Theo Epstein said Wednesday the decision was based on Cameron having played center field almost exclusively and Ellsbury having shown in 2007 and 2008 that he can be a strong corner outfielder. The left field spot opened when the Red Sox decided not to keep Jason Bay, who signed as a free agent with the Mets.

Fantasy Analysis
This makes sense because you sign Cameron to play defense in center field. It seems to be a waste to sign him as a left fielder. Regardless, the move could only help Ellsbury's draft stock. Playing a lower-impact position should help Ellsbury play more games and stay more healthy. It is also noteworthy that he won't be ushered off to San Diego in a deal for Adrian Gonzalez either. That would have hurt his status badly. Cameron gets a nice bump in Fantasy with the Red Sox and Fenway Park, a place that suits his right-handed pull-heavy bat, but he does also have the hype of the big market pulling his draft position up to a place where it will be hard for him to exceed optimistic expectations.
