Marlins avoid arbitration with Nolasco: Right-hander Ricky Nolasco and the Marlins have agreed to a $3.8 million, one-year contract, a raise of $1.4 million. Nolasco was 13-9 with a 5.06 ERA last season, down slightly from his 15-8 record in 2008. He missed a large part of 2007 because of elbow inflammation. In four seasons with the Marlins, Nolasco is 40-30 with a 4.43 ERA. Seven Marlins remain eligible to file for arbitration next month: second baseman Dan Uggla; first baseman Jorge Cantu; outfielder Cody Ross; right-handers Anibal Sanchez, Josh Johnson and Leo Nunez; and left-hander Renyel Pinto. While more than 200 major leaguers were eligible for arbitration in October, just 145 remain.

Fantasy Analysis
After a surprising step forward in 2008, Nolasco made an expected regression to the mean last year. Sure, he looks like a 200-strikeout candidate, but he proved far more hittable and less perfect in and out of the strikeout. We figure you will get somewhere between his two seasons in 2010. The Marlins are a solid contender with a lot of good young talent, so Nolasco could push for 15 victories and perform like a top 25 Fantasy starting pitcher again. Coming off his disappointing season, though, will allow you to select him after the top 40 starting pitchers are off the board on Draft Day.
