Lidge might not be ready for opener: Phillies closer Brad Lidge might not be ready for the start of the season after undergoing his second surgery in three months. Team officials say Lidge had surgery Wednesday to remove loose bodies in his right knee. The right-hander also underwent elbow surgery on his throwing arm in November. Phillies trainer Scott Sheridan on Thursday said Lidge should be able to begin throwing again in 10 days but it is not certain when he'll be ready to pitch in a game. Ryan Madson figures to get save chances if Lidge isn't ready in early April.

Fantasy Analysis
Lidge spent time on the DL last season with a sprained right knee. He had a poor season last year, converting 31 of 42 save opportunities with a 7.21 ERA in the regular season. His 11 blown saves led the majors. His year-to-year inconsistency and injury risk make him a low-end option for mixed leagues at this point. If he could prove healthy and effective again before Draft Day, though, he could qualify as a great bargain. Watch his situation closely. Madson is an intriguing sleeper for saves out of the gate now, perhaps.
