Beltre finalizes Red Sox deal: The Red Sox now have Adrian Beltre at Fenway Park, and with him comes a new defensive mindset. Beltre agreed to a one-year deal Friday worth a guaranteed $10 million. The two-time Gold Glove winner is coming off injuries. He will take over at third base from Mike Lowell, who is coming off thumb surgery and has been the subject of trade talks. Red Sox GM Theo Epstein calls Beltre one of baseball's best defensive players. But Beltre also hit at least 25 homers in three of the previous four seasons. Beltre will team with new shortstop Marco Scutaro, second baseman Dustin Pedroia and first baseman Kevin Youkilis in one of the best defensive infields the Red Sox have had in years. Beltre gets $9 million this year and a $1 million buyout for 2011 if he declines a $5 million option. The option would escalate to $10 million if Beltre has 640 plate appearances this season.

Fantasy Analysis
Injuries limited Beltre to 111 games last season, when he batted .265 with eight homers and 44 RBI. The Green Monster seems to fit Beltre's offensive game, which could mean a revival in the power categories. Also, the Red Sox won't expect him to carry the offense, so his RBI totals should improve as he bats behind one of the best casts in baseball. Beltre is once again a viable pick in the latter rounds of mixed leagues.
