  • Brewers' Jared Koenig: Opening Saturday

Koenig will serve as the Brewers' opening pitcher for Saturday's game against the Mets, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Koenig worked as an opener frequently during the first half of the season, though Saturday will be the first time he's done so since returning from the injured list in July. The 30-year-old southpaw owns a 3.60 ERA and 1.30 WHIP across 10 innings since the start of September, and he'll likely only remain in the game for an inning or two before turning things over to Tobias Myers, who is expected to pitch in bulk relief.

  • Brewers' Jared Koenig: Notches first save

Koenig threw a perfect inning to earn a save against Cleveland on Sunday. Koenig needed just 12 pitches (seven strikes) to finish off the 2-0 win. It was his first career MLB save, and he dropped his season ERA to 2.09. Koenig owns a 12:4 K:BB and a 3.86 ERA since returning from the injured list July 21. Both Devin Williams and Joel Payamps pitched in three of the four previous games and did not appear in Sunday's win.

  • Brewers' Jared Koenig: Comes off IL

The Brewers reinstated Koenig (elbow) from the 15-day injured list Sunday, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Reliever Joel Kuhnel was designated for assignment to make room in the bullpen and on the 26-man roster for Koenig, who landed on the IL on June 29 with left elbow tendinitis. The 30-year-old southpaw had been a dependable relief arm for Milwaukee prior to being deactivated, turning in a 1.66 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 36:11 K:BB over 38 innings.

  • Brewers' Jared Koenig: Kicking off rehab assignment Friday

Koenig (elbow) will make a rehab appearance with Triple-A Nashville on Friday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Koenig was placed on the 15-day injured list June 29 with left forearm tendinitis, but he looks to be progressing quickly after tossing a bullpen session Thursday and a multi-inning simulated game Sunday. The Brewers will reassess Koenig's status after Friday's rehab appearance, but he may need just the one outing with Nashville before returning to the big-league bullpen.

  • Brewers' Jared Koenig: No structural damage

An MRI on Koenig's left elbow showed swelling but no structural damage, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Koenig will remain sidelined through the All-Star break, but he looks to have avoided a major injury. The left-hander has been a revelation out of the Brewers' bullpen in 2024, collecting a 1.66 ERA and 36:11 K:BB over 38 innings.

  • Brewers' Jared Koenig: Lands on injured list

The Brewers placed Koenig on the 15-day injured list Saturday with left forearm tendinitis. Koenig threw 1.1 scoreless innings and struck out three batters during his appearance Friday versus the Cubs, but he seems to have come away from his outing with an injury. The 30-year-old southpaw has been one of the Brewers' more surprising finds of the season, posting a 1.66 ERA and 1.00 WHIP through 38 innings. Rob Zastryzny was selected from Triple-A Nashville to replenish Milwaukee's bullpen depth.

Koenig will serve as the Brewers' opening pitcher in Saturday's game against the Reds, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. It's a familiar role for Koenig, who hasn't been scored upon in 4.1 innings as an opener this season. He's expected to be followed Saturday by Bryse Wilson in bulk relief.

Koenig will serve as the Brewers' opening pitcher for Monday's game in Philadelphia, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. Koenig will work as an opener for Milwaukee for the third time this season, with both of his previous two "starts" coming in back-to-back games May 24 and 25 versus the Red Sox. • Brewers' Jared Koenig: Opening again Saturday

Koenig will serve as the Brewers' opening pitcher for Saturday's game against the Red Sox, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Koenig gave up a hit and a walk and struck out a batter in two-thirds of an inning while serving as an opener during Friday's win and will get a second straight opportunity to open a game. He will presumably remain in the game for just an inning or two before giving way to Colin Rea, who was originally scheduled to start Saturday.

  • Brewers' Jared Koenig: Sent back to Nashville

  • Brewers' Jared Koenig: Minors pact with Brewers

Koenig signed a minor-league contract with the Brewers on Friday that includes an invitation to spring training, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Koenig reached the majors with Oakland in 2022, but he spent all of 2023 in the minors working as a reliever for the Padres' Double-A and Triple-A affiliates. He had a 5.00 ERA, 1.84 WHIP and 48 strikeouts in 45 innings over 36 appearances at Triple-A.

  • Padres' Jared Koenig: Inks MiLB deal with San Diego

Koenig signed a minor-league contract Tuesday with the Padres. Koenig was non-tendered by the Athletics back in November after posting an ugly 5.72 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 22:15 K:BB over his first 39.1 major-league innings last season. The 29-year-old southpaw will function as organizational pitching depth for San Diego in 2023.

  • Jared Koenig: Non-tendered by Oakland

The A's declined to tender Koenig a contract for 2023. The lefty tried to get by with finesse last season -- he notched just 22 strikeouts in 39.1 innings in the majors -- but the results were ugly. Koenig spent a lot of time in independent ball and is almost 29 years old. His big-league future is hazy.

  • Athletics' Jared Koenig: Called up Friday

Koenig was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday. Koenig was sent down by the Athletics at the end of August, and he posted a 9.28 ERA and 1.87 WHIP in 10.2 innings over three appearances following his demotion. In spite of his lackluster performance, he'll rejoin the major-league club after Sam Moll (shoulder) was placed on the injured list Friday. Koenig has served as a starter in five of his six big-league appearances this year but will likely be a multi-inning option out of the Athletics' bullpen for now.

  • Athletics' Jared Koenig: Bound for Triple-A

The Athletics optioned Koenig to Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday. Koenig wasn't going to be available for Sunday's series finale in Houston after starting and taking the loss while covering seven innings Saturday, so Oakland opted to send him down to the minors. Adam Oller was called up from Triple-A in a corresponding move and will pick up the start Sunday. One of Oller or Koenig should have a good chance at sticking around as Oakland's No. 5 starter coming out of the All-Star break.

  • Athletics' Jared Koenig: Headed for Triple-A

The Athletics optioned Koenig to Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Reliever Sam Selman was called up from Triple-A in a corresponding move.
