That was a nice display of offense put on by the Cats tonight. Stephenson looked very impressive, along with Parker--the 2 freshman. How about Yancey passing the ball? Love to see a big man dish the ball out. Bishop can play outside or underneath the basket. Vaughn was... well he was his normal self. UC might also finally have a point guard again, Cash looks quick and sure handed.

The defense outside has to improve. Toledo was buring uncontested 3's for a strech of the game. They also didnt have anyone big to test UC underneath, so we will see if Gates has improved that area of his game later in the season.

It was great to see Cincinnati pull away and win a game comfortably.  The past couple of seasons even against lesser competition it has seemed that Mick could not get his players to get up for games that weren't big.  Having said this, UC has a long way to go to live up to the expectations that I believe most UC fans have for this team.  The perimeter defense has to get much better.  If a freshman from Toledo can shoot the way he did behind the arc against UC the way that Albrecht did tonight, then they are going to be in trouble come time for conference play.  The good news is that this team is young and the season is early, and they have won both games and already have made a vast improvement from the first game.  Don't get me wrong, this team is good and has the potential to be very good.  This is one of the more talented groups of Bearcats since the days that Huggins was coaching.  The fact that Vaughn does not have to shoulder the load and on any given night, there are at least six players that have the ability to put the team on their back is a luxary that not many teams have.  This is going to be a very entertaining team to watch as the season progresses.  I look for a good showing at the Maui.

Buckeyes i agree with most of that, but what do u mean by if a freshman can drain three's? When Vaughn was a freshman he drained three's and let the cats in most of the categories. And Lance Stephenson (a freshman) played the most minutes for us today. So i just don't know where your coming from with that. but i do agree that our perimeter defense needs to improve, but our next game Vandy if they are going to beat us it wont be by shooting three's so we need to keep on winning the rebounding battle for that game.

good game overall, happy to see Bishop with the game high!

Very nice to see the Bearcats win impressively. They played team ball for most of the game and moved the ball around very well against the zone. The thing that is killing me is they need to work the ball through Yancy Gates almost every possesion. He is great with the ball in his hands as far as being able to score and pass very effectively. He worries me though with his focus I see him not hustling after loose balls and not working hard every time down the court to get position. Im guessing this may either be him just getting his legs under him since its only the first couple games or hes just immature still with him only being a sophmore. All in all I was very impressed tonight, sure the toledo kids were making their outside shots which kept them in the game for a while but once Cincinnati went on a run it flustered them and they stopped hitting those threes that they prolly wouldnt make against a team not from a major conference. I figure they were shooting with emotion and once UC put it on them they got down and quite making them. At one point I heard that all 10 Bearcats that played had scored. I dont think that the walk-on or Biggie scored unless they did after I turned it with a min to go. What about Bishop? Outstanding, Man if he can play like this it makes this team way more dangerous. How nice is it to see a pure point guard in there? I love seeing Vaughn running off of screens not having to worry about handling the ball. Did Kilpatrick get any PT tonight? I miss like 3 minutes of the game in both halfs.  Very pleased compared to last game. I could go on forever so ill just stop here lol.

The D was good tonight, imo. When you have a guy shooting that deep, you have to give him credit. A lot of these shots, there was a hand in his face, he just made them.

Thanks for the Kilpatrick info. I was looking forward to seeing him this year he looked good in the scrimages. I agree with the fact that if someone is shooting the ball that deep its pretty much impossible to stop them. All around good game for the Cincinnati Bearcats.

Well, I didn't want to panic after the Prarie View A & M game and I don't want to declare us national champions after last night's game (Toledo), but they SURE looked good.

Passing was outstanding - 37 baskets on 27 assists. Vaughn, Wright, and Parker had a combined 14 assists and 2 turnovers. And the offense a lot of the time went through Yancy Gates (or Toyloy when he was in there). Gates had 4 assists, several of which were beautiful. He does not have great hands, but they are good enough, and he can find the open man when the opponent collapses on him in the post.

Rebounding - 14 offensive rebounds. Bishop must have had three stickbacks of his own offensive rebound for baskets.

Defense - I disagree with some of the criticism. Several of our defenders are "long" and quick (Bishop, Wilks, Parker) and Wright, Davis, and Dixon are  just plain quick. We had 9 steals last night. I think we could put on one hell of an effective press when it is called for. Toledo's success with the "3" was based on good shooting from long distance, I don't think we gave them many wide open looks.

The Vandy game is going to be our first real test of the potential for this team. Basically, if they can continue to improve, there is no question they are at least a top 25 team. And they have potential to be better than that. If Stephenson works into the offense a little better and Thomas contributes like the coaches think he can, this could be quite a special team...with the emphasis on could . It will be interesting to watch.

i agree with you 100%.....

i was very critical after the first game debacle....

they looked like they improved triple.....

it was nice to them feed yancy and get him going early in the game...

he seems to be a player that needs to get in the flow of the game early so he stays interested.....

gates also did some nice passing though i would like to see him be a bit more selfish when he is that close to the basket.

bishop was a beast last night.i like him coming off the bench a ton......

teams need to have someone coming off the bench that can give a scoring boost.

stephenson i think is still getting comfortable to the college game.when he gets the offense he is going to be dangerous.

the defense does need to improve....

they need to quit going underneath the screen or picks and fight through....

i like the fact this team seems to be the deepest team cronin has had....

alll in all i liked what i saw.....

big game next monday against vandy.they have their top 8 players are coming back.this is going to be a good test to see where we are at this time.

Phew!! I don't even want to imagine the outcry and backlash that would ensue if we had lost to Toledo.

Great jobs Cats. Carry this play into Maui and show the nation!

#2 Michigan State played Toledo last night. They won by 12 or 13. The Spartans were down early and then took control, but it sounds like we handled the Rockets a little easier than Michigan State. The freshman guard from Toledo also lit up the Spartans, as he did the Bearcats, with 3s. All-in-all, while comparing games is always dicey, this makes our Toledo win look pretty good. Bring on Vandy!
