Other than the Landry missed tackle on Turner, the Skins dominated the Falcons in Atlanta in the second half of that game last week.

The Skins also dominated the Broncos(who've beaten the Bengals and Patriots) yesterday. Other than the Skins 2 secondary mental lapses on the bombs they gave up to Denver for TDs, what did Orton really do in the first half? Don't really think it would've mattered much with Orton playin' the whole game either.

If the Skins can keep up that same intensity on both sides of the ball since the start of the second half in Atlanta, then this can be a dangerous team.

I'm still a skeptic of my Skins, but if they don't miraculously sneak into the playoffs thru a wildcard selection this year, then they may actually be able to start strong at the start of next year. Then again, that's a big IF because of how the front office has screwed things up over the years.  I just wanna know how long that they can keep up this consistency.

BRING ON DALLAS!

Strange what happens when the O-line can open up holes and JC isn't fearing for his life because he has Heyer attempting to protect his blindside. Thank god Jones is finally in at LT, so far it's been a big upgrade. There's no way we contend this year. We're too far behind with too difficult of a schedule. I'm not sold on next year either. We have FAs in Rogers, Campbell, Daniels, and McIntosh in addition to role players such as Golston, Doughty, Alexander, and Hunter Smith. Now if it's an uncapped year, Rogers and Campbell are RFAs, so we may get another year from them.

If it's capped, though, my predicition of the team's success will depend greatly on the states of the QB, CB, LB, and OL positions. I'd like to see McIntosh and Levi Jones resigned. Draft primarily OL. I have no idea who's going to be available at CB or if Tryon and/or Barnes can fill in adequately (Los has really been bad this year and they seemed to do fine against Denver after he got benched). QB is a toss up: JC, Brennan, Jeff Garcia, etc. If CP comes back and is effective, great. If not, cut him and make Betts the feature back. Gaither/Cartwright can be the backups.

Build this team around defense and a strong offensive line, then add a QB and RB via draft or FA in 2011. Even with a mediocre QB, a strong defense and running game make you into a playoff contender (see Minnesota). Add a solid first-round QB and the team turns into a superbowl contender.

I agree that since the "Peach state shuffle" or whatever last weekend, this team has really played well.

But I have to disagree with you on Jason Campbell, I was high and mighty on this kid in the pre-season, and he let everyone down.  Not only that, but we let a Chase Daniel go to the Saints to learn from Drew Brees just to keep him around another year.  Not saying CD was a savior, but anything is more entertaining then watching frankenpick.

But I do agree with the linemen thing, and keeping Quinton Ganther, man that kid wants in the game doesn't he?  Give him the ball behind a big offensive line and let the defense win the games.  As much as it scares me, I say we give Colt Brennan a shot next year and go for Ryan Mallet in 2011.

HAIL!

Good post.

Well, that makes about 90% of us Redskins fans who agree the team should be rebuilding and not pretending to be just one more expensive free agent away from a championship.  But you've got to convince the man upstairs, and I'm not talking about God, but about Daniel "It's-my-toy-and-I'll-break-it-if-I-want-to" Snyder.

I'm not too sure about Stephon Heyer, but the entire offensive line and starting quarterback require a change.  Clinton Portis has just about run out of gas, and without a decent line helping him out, he can no longer be counted on to provide 50% of the offense.  Hunter Smith is a more dependable option to score.

Build this team around defense and a strong offensive line, then add a QB and RB via draft or FA in 2011. Even with a mediocre QB, a strong defense and running game make you into a playoff contender (see Minnesota). Add a solid first-round QB and the team turns into a superbowl contender.I disagree about taking a QB in the first round.  Campbell has been about a top-20 QB in his time in the NFL, passable but frustrating at times to watch.  His own management seems to dog him because he's not Peyton Manning or Donovan McNabb- someone able to work with a bad line and poor receivers (Reggie Wayne excepted) and produce a lot of offense.  With the current ownership, I don't see anyway that the team builds through the draft.  The current logic seems to be, "why get three young, relatively cheap guys with unrecognizable names, when you can get one old, overpriced, possibly over-hyped free agent ?"  And the Vikings didn't turn into a powerhouse overnight.  Their defense has been solid for 3-4 years now, and they made very smart decisions to firm up the offensive line and replace duds at key positions with dependable producers: Onterrio Smith / Michael Bennett becomes Chester Taylor / Adrian Peterson, and Tavaris Jackson becomes Brett Favre.

The solution is to build a good stable of young players in the system through smart drafting and good scouting, not making a big splash by signing free agents as band-aids to address a glaring deficiency.  Oh, and having a GM with at least  some qualifications is probably a good idea.

While the Redskins have looked better I do not agree that we have looked good. To call a fake punt and have to call time out after you telegraph a fake and then running a fake aftrer the time out will not work against most teams. The Falcons should be very embarassed.

Having a real LT in Levi Jones is a huge help. It is the most important position on the OL and we put Stephon Heyer there! That is just plain sick to think you could make that work. Heyer is a backup and nothing more.

Vinny needs to go or we will never get this thing turned around. Vinny can't draft to save his life, and he sure did give Jim Zorn a playoff team to coach! As stated above we need a real GM.

Getting Levi Jones was a huge upgrade and Chad Rinehart is starting to pull his weight. Stephon Heyer is a waste of a roster spot and needs to be cut. A decent OL will get the power running game going again and give Jason Campbell time to make better choices. He is not going to carry the team but he can play not to lose games. This is still a Joe Gibbs team that is trying to be a WC team. It is a true power run offense with a stout defense. This is how the Skins play football.

I agree.  We have looked good recently, but today will be a true test.  The Broncos have been on a down slide and not having Orton helped us as well.  We play a good Dallas team in Dallas so we'll see if we can once again step up.  JC is not the QB we need.  HE takes sacks that he probably shouldn't a lot and to add to the insult he has fumblitis!  I agree we need to build a strong Defense and a Solid O line.  A QB that knows how to take care of the football and throw it away when necessary.

I hope they let all of the rookies get their shot to shine today and for the rest of the season.  What a great way to evaluate what we've got...real game play against good opponents.  At the end of the season you have a better idea of what the needs of the team really are.  We have a unique opportunity and I hope we take it since the playoffs are a non-factor...let's open up the playbook and have some FUN!

Let's go get those Cowboys and have some FUN doing it!

I've already given up on this season and am pretending that the NFL 2009 season didn't happen because of a player lockout.  I sleep better at night this way.
