Levi Jones clinched his third USAC sprint car title evening him with legendary drivers Sheldon Kinser, Robbie Stanley, Steve Butler and Larry Dickson. Two races remain on the schedule, but Levi mathematically assured himself the title on the strenght of a win and 2 third place finishes at Perris Auto Speedway this weekend. Dave Darland entered the weekend second in points only 27 markers behind, but bad luck and a poor run the first night sealed his fate. In the last five seasons Levi will have never finished worse than 2nd in points and is clearly making a statement that he is also one of the dominant champions in motorsports.
The season officially ended last night at Tulare, CA with Indiana native Jon Stanbrough taking the forty lap feature. Levi Jones ended the season with a commanding 224 point win after leaving for the final five races in California with a margin of only 27 points. Levi had an average finish of 4.6 over the final five shows including a win at Perris while then second place Dave Darland struggled mightly missing 2 features. Cole Whitt finished second in series points by a margin of 2 over Darland.
Bud Kaeding was also crowned the Silver Crown champion for the third time in his career at the series finale this past week at Phoenix. The national midget championship will conclude on Thanksgiving in the annual Turkey Night Grand Prix at Irwindale Speedway. Brad Kuhn leads Kasey Kahne driver Brad Sweet by forty. If Brad Kuhn hangs on to win the title he will sweep two of the three major midget sanctions and have won all three titles in the last two years.
