Skinny , Craig, I'm a conspiracy type of guy, was a paper boy from the age of 9 to 16, this allowed me to buy many an Expos ticket, and the right to go without parental guidance, lol, something about being a working man and paying your own way, allows for much teenage freedom ( ;-) got to smoke and buy beer before the legal age, don't judge my parents, they are by and large of Irish descent, i.e. my paternal grandfather was a bugle boy in the Crimean War at the age of twelve, a merchant marine captain by the age of twenty, got injured in the Halifax explosion in WW1), what's with all this background information you ask ? Hoping you will have a more open mind with the following...MLB had to get rid of the Montreal Expos out of fear for the livelyhood of the game, early nineties saw the Toronto Blue Jays winning 2 World Series and here we are 1994 and now the Montreal Expos look like they could have World Series winning teams for the next couple of years, baseball was already waning in the US after the Blue Jays victories, from a marketing perspective,MLB thought a couple of Montreal World Series victories would be nails in the coffin, does this conspiracy hold water, in light of how MLB destroyed baseball in Montreal thereafter?

There are a couple of factors in the Expos leaving but the #1 reason is the fans wouldn't come out.  Our stadium sucks, it's a big toilet bow.  Perhaps if Jean Couture could have built that new Stadium it MIGHT have turned out different but still we are a hockey team and we were doomed.

The Jays were talking to the Cubs about moving Halladay this off season!!

The can is leaky MercuryRoti. hahaha

- Given the collusion aspect. THE HAWK just said write anythign you want in..so they wrote like 750K the cheap collusionist Cubs (glad the owners went into the toilet-but at least they signe him) and Hawk blasted 49 HR's and took the MVP!
- Given the way Lorrie got MLB to do what he wants
- Given that Selig is the biggest slime ball in baseball history ..a shameless beer man who is commmisser for 1 reason onlyh..liine his own pockets and previously the Brewers
- Steroid junk
-THe fact Montreal (a major city) was dumped easily enough
- THe fact they DID cancel the series and the season essentially dooming the franchise
- The fact Montreal had fabulous young talent having tremndous seasons all at the same time and were 74-40

The team had Ken Hill on pace for 23 wins AND Pedro Martinez breaking out at 11-5

Cliff Floyd, Marquis Grissom, Rondell White, Moises Alou, Larry Walker (breaking out and on pace for a 320 30 130 RBI year pre-steroids) , Darrian Fletcher C

John Wettland Closer

YOU CAN SAY THE LEAGUE WAS NOT INTEESTED IN THE WELFARE FO THE FRANCHISE ONE LITTLE BIT. WERE FINE LETTING IT SINK. BETTMAN WOULD HAVE KEPT THE TEAM IN MONTREAL IMO. YOU HAD THE WRONG COMMISSIONER. SO< maybe there is a bit of half truth in the asertion that the league just wanted them out cause htye were in Canada. It may have been a PART of the thought process...

All canadian world series would have been a blast, it looked like a reality before the strike.

Mercury, never one for conspiracy theories, you can never prove anything so why bother, its like in '93, bettman wanted L.A in the finals with gretzky, how can you prove that? The leafs had a chance to win game 7 at home and they blew it, he missed the call and live with it.
After the strike my interest for baseball kind of died off a bit, high salaries, players just going after the money, not playing with heart, never like the skydome really, loved the '80's at the old ex and players like moseby and upshaw, you saw guys really playing for the love of the game. I like what I see now in Hill, Lind and even scutaro. so things just might be looking up again.
