Schaftenaar, Hampton and the Tarver brothers will provide nice senior leadership.  Omari, Wallace and Deane will be a year deeper in a system that worked very well for them last year.  Haynes is simply awesome.  How this guy went unoticed during recruiting season is beyond me.  Burton, Cunningham and Nelson are the most exciting incoming freshman that I can remember in Corvallis and I've been following the team since 1998.  Coach Robinson has already proven to be a solid coach.  If he can use these athletic recruits to make the Princeton style offense even more dangerous, the sky is truly the limit for the Beavers.

I don't want to set my expectations too high, but I see no reason why the Beavers can't be competitive in every game they play.

I presume there are a lot of Beaver BB fans that share a cautious optimism. And, you can include me. I further predict that after the pre-season is over there will be more expectations than we currently have. Can the team take that into the regular season? It is really hard to not believe that it won't happen. Still, there have been some pretty tough years. If nothing else, I have learned patience and will keep a happy face through whatever happens. The fact there is optimism is nearly good enough.

An NIT or better, NCAA bid would really be nice though, eh?

And while it was a home game against S. Oregon, I dont recall many 40+ point victories for the last couple decades.

The Beavs have a fairly easy preseason that will include a couple opponents worth noting (Nebraska and Illinois). I think those two games will give a good preview of where we can go. Except for Ricky C, we get the whole team back. He was an important part of last year's team and his defense and ball handling abilities will need to be replaced. But, it sounds like we got that in recruiting and the early games will give them a chance to play before the games become important. I haven't see them in action yet and am looking forward to it. Even if the team doesn't have the top level athletes the big boys get, this team looks deep. If we can rotate more players than opponents, we can keep the defensive pressure on and run teams down. This should give us the advantage at the end of a couple games and translate into additional wins.

I certainly would like that. And, it has been too long since that gym has rocked like it did back in Old Crusty Miller's days. I would miss how easy it is to get good seats but will take the trade.

Beavers should be much better. Robinson will be a hot coach.

Open mouth, insert foot.

Oh well, another brutal start to the season.  I am quite shocked.

Anyone see the game?  If so, what is the problem?

The problem is, we just simply do not have the talent to compete yet.  It is going to take a few years to bring Robinson's recruiting class along.  Until that happens we won't be able to attract players who do not need a lot of development.
