This is absolutely PATHETIC!

Yes it has to be capitalized.  0-2 vs UTSA and Duquesne...This is akin to our football team losing to a D-II school

Something has to change, they can't just pass pass pass shoot 3.  That is not basketball.  This is not basketball...ugh.

I guarantee wrestling will draw more folks this year than basketball.

I am just sick!

Please Give "Lick" Another Year!

Hi Gang!- Some may think I'm old & crazy, but I'm going to plead the case for Coach Lickliter to be given ONE more year's chance at getting your fan approval. All you really have to do is look into Iowa basketball history & into Coach Lickliter's past history; then you will see that he just might deserve your approval to coach another year [or so]. If you read into it, IOWA has never really been a perrenial power in basketball for any real length of time. Football neither, for that part. Wrestling, yes, but JUST since the mid 70s with Coach Gary Kurdlemeyer hiring Dan Gable as an assistant & then turning over the reigns to him. Seriously, before Hayden Fry came here, we only had off & on real good winning seasons. We jumped from coach to coach over & over, never allowing any of them to really have the time needed to BUILD a program. Back to basketball. Yes! We had SOME good years with Ralph Miller, Lute Olson & Dr. Tom Davis, but never a span of really good teams. 2-3 yrs. in a row doesn't count at most places. Dr. Tom inherited the excellent recruits of George Raveling, who never seemed to be truly able to coach though. Tom Davis had many years of decent teams, but not much as far as a lot of championship teams in the Big 10. To Coach Alford's "credit", he had 2 Big 10 TOURNAMENT teams, but who else ever even had THAT chance? Otherwise, Alford never really produced a whole lot. "Lick" inherited what Alford left & KNEW what he was leaving--not much but broken egoes & mid level talent. Coach Lickliter did come from what many call a mid-major called Butler. At this "little" school he beat in-state schools such as Indiana, Purdue & Notre Dame on a fairly consistent rate. His teams won Horizon League titles in 02, 03, & 07. His 06-07 squad was the first to win 20 games before February [in their conference], first to EVER win 26 during the regular season AND they were ranked in the Top 25 for 16 consecutive weeks [beating the likes of Tennessee, Gonzaga & Maryland--ALL good teams!].This team had an 82% graduation rate; BEST amongst the Sweet 16 that they made it into, before losing a close one to the eventual national champs, Florida. He was voted Div.1 Coach of the Year by the NABC & the Horizon League, besides being voted Jim Phelan National Coach of the year at mid season AND getting the Hugh Durham Award. His Bulldogs won the 2006 NIT Tip-Off and Wooden Classic. In his 6 yrs, there they averaged 22 wins per season. Seth Davis, Clark Kellogg, Bill Raftery & many others have nothing but good to say about him, too. NOW! Some of these "defectors" are friends of a guy by the last name of Bohall, which should be spelled BULL Haul!!! A KID who has a 'chip on his shoulder' because "Lick" laid down some 'smack' on him. In other words---DISCIPLINED him! Too Bad! Now that we have the dirt out of the cupboard & have the BRATS running home [I'm sorry---NOT!] maybe we can move on & really see what this guy can do for us. Like get some young MEN who have always wanted to be Hawkeyes & keep our instate talent home here in Iowa City. I don't know this for sure, but I'll give him another year. If you want to see how bad it used to be--look it up! Iowa made NO NCAA appearances from 1956-1970. I think we can wait ONE MORE YEAR!!! Thanks!
